  1. The DSG here has a 20% off sale going on, so I picked up two packs of Rage Craws. Might as well give it a shot.
  2. Living in Tampa and having been in the bay...it gets a weird chop to it, and can get pretty nasty quick. A flats boat is typically self-bailing. I know people that take their bass boats in the bay, but you wouldn't find me doing it.
  3. Where I fish, the bass love those little series 1 SKs. I have 1.5 and 2.5 KVDs in the tackle box, but they see less use than the smaller baits. Definately going to pick up some SK 1.0 to try out too. Thanks for all the advice so far guys, planning on going to check out some rods on thursday.
  4. i have a 13' whaler with a 40hp merc on it. It only has a 6.6 gallon tank, and I can usually go 3 or 4 trips on one tank, if I fish local areas (hillsborough river is mostly no wake zone, and lake thonotosassa is small). Bigger lakes where I'm running around alot I'll usually use half a tank at most.
  5. Hey guys, I'm in the market for a new cranking rod. I'm currently using a Team All-Star 6'10" MH Mod-Fast with a BPS 6.4:1 Extreme reel. I mostly throw square bills. The one tied on most of the time is the SK series 1, which is a small 1/4 oz crankbait. The Extreme doesn't like casting it much at all, so I ordered a 200E5 Curado. I'm looking to pick up a new rod to go with this new reel, but having a hard time deciding between a medium or medium heavy rod. The reason I like the idea of a MH is since I throw around alot of grass. I have been looking at the Falcon BuCoo 7' MH moderate. I also fish alot of fallen docks, stumps etc. I'd like this rod to work for cranking down to 7-8 ft max. Should I be looking at a medium, or am I on the right track picking up a MH? I'm debating between a Veritas and a BuCoo. I've heard the Veritas run a littile heavier than listed, maybe a good compromise? Maybe I'm just thinking way too much into it. Also, I have been using mono to give some stretch, but I'm thinking of switching to flouro for a better feel of the bait. Looking forward to hearing some of your opinions and experiences. Thanks
  6. Livetarget 3/4 oz hollow body frog SK pro series 1 chartruse shad zoom watermelon seed 6" lizard runner up: yum 4.25 wooly bug in smoke red pepper
  7. WFN came with my verizon, so I watch it all the time. Lost lake and classic patterns are two of my favorites. The have big bass monday, so monday is my sit inside and watch fishing night now haha
  8. Culprit 7.5"
  9. Sounds like a fun challenge to me.
  10. I didn't like the handle either. Gave the rod a cheap feel to me, if they would have done a regular split grip I'd own one right now. I liked it other than the grip.
  11. Going to bump this up to see if anyone else has experience with these rods.
  12. Nice! I really need to make a trip out there!
  13. For soft plastics, unless your flipping or punching heavy cover, you shouldn't need a heavy rod. I use a 7' MH Fast for my t-rigged soft plastics.
  14. You will definitely want a 5.0:1, I use a 6.4:1 for my shallow cranks and I don't even like putting a 7-8 ft crankbait on it
  15. I have both, actually last weekend I was pitching a jig with a calcutta 200 and pitching soft plastics with a coronach. I like using both, but if I was forced to pick just one I'd pick a low profile reel for overall comfort and weight
  16. I have been using senkos but being that I texas rig them and fish areas with cover I can tear one up before I even catch a fish. I'm thinking about trying something else but the senko is pretty good at catching fish
  17. I have one spare I keep in my tackle box thats already spooled
  18. I live in Tampa, and have been fishing Lake Thonotosassa mostly, with the occasional trip to the Hillsborough River or Lake Tarpon. While I like Lake Thonotosassa, I'm looking for more options. I've searched around on here some and found a few places, but I'd like to hear some updated opinions on more places. If you're in this general area, where do you fish and how well are you doing? Thanks!
  19. Signed up a little while ago to read up on some topics and just now getting around to posting an introduction. I'm from Tampa FL and fish mostly lake Thonotosassa and the Hillsborough river, sometimes head out to lake Tarpon. If anyone has any other good lakes in the Tampa area let me know! Thanks
  20. I would go with a 7' MH Fast for an all around rod. As far as brand your best bet is to go to a place that has a good selection and check a few out yourself. Everyone has different preferences. I'd check out the Abu Garcia Veritas, St Croix Mojo bass, Carrot Stix Wild, and Shimano Compre. For a reel I'd go with a 7.1 ratio, I think a Citica is your best bet in your price range, but I wouldn't rule out the Bass Pro Pro Qualifier.
