40 ? years ago there were lures that were weighted and shaped to fly backwards. Being cheap I removed the front lip of a 6" floating Rapala. Then tied the line into the rear hook eye of the lure. It did cast farther. But still did not skip like a stone. It caught fish as often as a normal 6" Rapala.

I have fished with a friend and did a test with him. Me on my Rapalas & spinners. Him only using 2" to 3" Shiners. I woke up the fish. He caught a fish on almost every deliberate wacky cast. Even used a float to keep the Shiners 1 ' away from the float. We laughed until we ran out of bait.

Well I fished where there were no bass. Everything I put on did NOTHING !!!! So much for attracting fish !!!!

I have favorite old Mitchel Reels. I also have many spools pre loaded with different lines, weights and a small brass snap on the end of each spool. All the reels are really light salt water reels. But I can switch the spools as I want to, while fishing. My vest has spaces for 2 spools if I wade.

Is your stream / lake edges right against & over bushes ?

A simple question with many right answers. Tried a lot of different rods for the same type of fish. For me the conditions rule which rod gets picked that day. High fast flood water I am doing short stiff rods & heavy lines. I just do not know what is going to hit 6 feet from shore in a swirling back water hole. Could be anything and up to about 25 pounds. I am using a medium split shot on the bottom with with 2 hooks 1 foot apart farther up the line. 1 has worm. Other has Green Giant corn niblets. It provides some action as the scent is picked up. I do use 2# test in clear open places. 👍

My bass DO LIKE to nest on the shady side of LARGE rocks & gravel piles. They clean the muck away to bare rock. Same places every year.

I use both the Nylon & Metal clip stringers. Pike just yank open the metal spring clips. I use the Nylon on them alone to tow them slowly to other areas. They do not go belly up 20 minutes after release. They are very shock / Lactic Acid prone if played too long. If they are good sized and on the 4# Mono perch rig. Belly up in under 20 minutes after being released. A note about pike doing a lot of struggling Death Rolls like a alligator. Those are almost always a dead pike after being released. I bring them home for a pike person..

I sure hope it is a weather condition. But the NYS net trap people said they are finding a lot less fish of all types in the traps. Water is 52 F on surface at mid day deep or shallow areas.

I would not bring any big fish with 2 of the 3 sets hanging out of a mouth. I can tell you how hard it is to remove 5 of 6 treble hooks from human skin ........ALONE Guide the fish into a deep rubber net. Fish is ALWAYS kept in the water !! Buy a long 12" Galvanized plier made to grab EACH hook. 1 at a time. The fish in the water CAN NOT leap up & hook your hand. Laying on a inside surface he is suffocating. anything touching him he tries to escape. Can leap off the floor enough to hook you. Ozark Trail is listed in Walmart for $6 about 16" reach. Safest ones I use I have spares in boat & shore fishing jacket. I now have small 5" long blade knives in carrying case to cut my skin away if need by me or someone else. ............Barbless barbless .........if you fish alone. Just keep a tight line. It really works. DO NOT reel in close to you a feisty fish. They can wrap around a leg !! Almost had that happen. Kayak ? Hooked up fish in the boat ? Barbless hooks ONLY. Or a E R drive.
