Open Water Reports In Ma
Grandpa, I took a ride up there last yr, they had the place locked up tighter than a drum, spoke to one of the city workers who stated he didn't think they were ever going to open it again due to the drug traffic and stolen cars being pushed in. It really is a shame that the fisherman have to pay for the disrespect of the non fisherman. I took a 5lb smallie right out in front of the ramp one yr, and have enjoyed some fine fishing launching from there. I don't know what the alternitive is. There used to be a ramp and parking right off of Rt110 by the old Beas by the Rt 93 bridges, but that one is closed as well, although U can get a car topper in there. Don't know if a letter to a State Rep would help or not, I think it was the police who pushed for the closing. Nxt time I'm down that way I'll check to see what I can find out and if it's open I'll post it up or shoot U a PM

Lipless Crankbaits?
For smallies I like the LC LV500 in spring craw followed by the Red Eye Shad in red and chartruse craw. they are very versitle baits U can fish them at all speeds and up in down in the water column, they cast very well even into the wind, and the smallies love em.

Anyone Have Any Luck In Southern Nh Yet? (4/6/12)
Yeah, I'll bet Wildlife Taxidermy is thrilled to death, hopefully it won't hurt em too bad, they're still very handy to Massabesic. Unfortunetly it's the little places that take a beating when the big stores come in.

Anyone Use Firetiger Color Much?
I sometimes change out the spinners on some of my spinnerbaits to firetiger, has saved the day on a number of occassions. Also use em on in line spinners #4 or #5 Mepps and the smallies smash em.

Favorite Craw Rig
I take my Grandson out & tail hook a live crawfish, put a split shot about 8 inches above it, I use a hula grub on a round ball head jig, he catches 10 smallies to my one, he says to me "grampy why don't you just use these" I don't know what to say to him, but his smile is priceless, so I guess my favorite rig is a tail hooked live crayfish. LOL

Curado 200 Dhsv
I own 2 of them, Gd tough reels, with strong drags, use mine for heavy fishing. agree price is a little high, try to talk him down a little. If U purchase it I don't think you'll regret it. Just my opinion. I love mine.

Baitcasting Reels
Most of mine are Shimano, I picked up a Johnny Morris gold colored baitcaster from BPS a few yrs ago on the cheap, has 10 ball bearings,it has become one of my favorites, smooth as silk, cast a mile,I beat the bag out of it, it's been stepped on, dropped a gazillion times and looks like its been through a war, but just keeps right on tickin. zero problems.

What Trolling Motor?
After running a Minn Kota 55# on my 17' Lund I swapped it out for a Motor Quide 24V 82# digital the difference was like night and day, I have yet to kill the power on a days fishing with the new motor. A valuable and expensive lesson learned. Agree with others on here, get the biggest motor you can afford. You won't regret it, nothing worse than being on fish on a windy day and your motor is dying. If U check some of the places that sell and mount the motors and tell him what you want they can notify you when someone is up grading or trading in for a newer model and you can get out on the cheap.

Maine Legislators Poised To Ban All Soft Baits
If the legislators in Maine vote this ban in & I'm sure I speak for alot of sportsman, I will not spend a penny in that state including at Cabelas, Kittery Trading Post and LL Bean, and fully intend to Email each of them tomorrow to convey that, and would urge every sportsman to do the same. It would be financial suicide to alot of businesses in the state if the ban is passed, think of Motels, camping areas, tolls, gas stations as well as the state tax revenue they would lose. Just cannot see that passing.

The Bait Monkey..myth..
Surprised no one has come up with the quote "My wife says if I buy one more fishing rod she's going to leave me, I'm sure gonna miss her) So far only about $650 on new rods and baits, not done yet though.

Short Guy
I feel your pain at 5'4', fished with a guide once who was 6'7' he was trying to teach me how to flip and pitch, I commented to him "ya it's easy for you look how tall you are" he said it has nothing to do with height, and proved it by pitching and flipping from his knees, and was very proficiant at it,he could put it in a cup everytime, and promised me that if I learned to do it I would be twice the fisherman. So I've been practicing with a 7"2" M/H cumara and am getting pretty gd at it. I think it's just a case of practice as much as possible.

Why So Few Floating Plastic Worms?
Manns Jelly worms when they first came out floated, don't know if the new ones do. Little trick I use when I c-rig I put a small piece of pipe insulation up ahead of the hook ,with the bigger worms, and lizards it's tough but it will keep them up long enough to slow the rate of fall, when using tubes or the paca craws I stuff them with the pipe insulation works like a charm takes awhile to learn how much U need but after a while you get the hang of it.
