  1. As others have stated it's mainly in the setup. I had a Shimano Citica D, and a BPS Johnny Morris Signiture series that when set up properly I could throw baits a long way and very seldom backlash, the wind will also drive you crazy when throwing baits into it. Learn your reels, how to set them up and practice with them. The cost of a reel is not the determining factor in a backlash
  2. Great Job Will. I plan on being there this wk no later than Wed. Haven't fished hair jigs in a long time but used to fish them a lot down in the kettle ponds on the Cape and caught some bruiser smallies on them, Keep the reports coming I enjoy your post.
  3. Pretty simple to do yourself. Heat up the old one and pull gently, should come right out, if it's broken off just put the flame to it and burn it out, then put a little epoxy or you can use quick set gel and put it on, or you can get new tips at almost any gd sports shop. If your uncomfortable doing it call Joe at granite state rod/reel he'll do it for you. 603 880-6031 does quality work on reels and rods highly recommended.
  4. Doesn't have to be the biggest or fanciest, just has to do what it was intended to do. Gd luck with your new boat
  5. So take the pressure and move it to Maine, then we can make Maine like NH makes sense to me. Ma is Close behind NH used to be able to go to the Cape and catch quality all day long, not anymore. That's what makes the Quabbin a special place, but you've got guys trying to conduct tourneys there now, all in the name of what?
  6. I hate it when the little woman kicks I disagree. Took her out last yr, never took a cast in her life, tied her on a senko just to keep it simple and she whipped I disagree. She never went again but everytime i'm talkin fishin with friends she has to rub my face in it. LOL
  7. When I'm on the water I shut the phone off and only turn it on to check for emergencys. Just want to relax and enjoy the outdoors and get away from the hustle and hog wash. I like it even better when I leave it in the truck. LOL Come on open water.
  8. The first thing I would order is sun & warmth LOL Jerkbaits, blades, lipless cranks, jigs & trailers.
  9. Pike in the concord river. Take all you want, make sure you take them home. I hear Attitash has em as well.
  10. Part of fishing is sometimes losing baits and lures. You know your fishing a jig right because you'll sometimes hang up and have to snap it off, same with any lure, you get snagged or your line breaks. It's just all part of it.
  11. Ball point pen works well, the ones that screw together.
  12. I use western filament tuf-line XP braid in 80# with a 15ft 50# mono leader, other than changing the leader due to nicks and abrassions I've had the same line on for 4yrs just rinse it off after every trip, no issues and I deep sea fish at least once a wk.
  13. Yes I did, only about 95 miles I make a day of it. I've driven to Auburn, Thompson, Little Sebago. Any further than that and I'll stay over night fish the nxt day and come home. I'm retired, so no work committments.
  14. Maine, right above Little Ossipee. Be very careful on there very shallow with hundreds of coves, thousands of stumps, dead falls and of course millfoil.
  15. Looks like one of the 1000 bogs that all over down there. If you can get permission to get in some fab fishin to be had.
  16. Yep, up until noon time we only had 8 fish on texas rigged senkos and jigs right into the stumps, then the sky got dark and the wind started to blow and the guy I was with said we're making a big move, when we got to where we were going he tied on a spinnerbait and hooked up on the 3rd cast and 2 more quickly followed, he said "tie on a spinner bait we're in for a 40 fish afternoon" and he was right, the harder the wind blew the better the fishing got. I've had days like that on Winni with spinnerbaits for smallies, fishing the wind blown flats. What's funny is I couldn't find the place again by myself if you paid me, when we we're leaving he said which way is out I pointed to the way I thought, he laughed and headed the opposite way.
  17. I enjoyed it but wouldn't recommend fishing it without some sort of GPS tracking easy to get yourself turned around on there.
  18. Did Arrowhead today for the first time. Over 50 LM, biggest just under 4# mostly on windblown wood and stumps with spinnerbaits. water temps low 60s.
  19. Spoke with fish and game yesterday. According to the person I spoke with, who stated she spoke to the warden in the area, they have started to refill Lake Arrowhead, launching, and fishing shouldn't be a problem.
  20. Last I heard they were drawing the lake down this past Monday to look for a missing person. Was planning to head there on this coming Monday, I'm going to try to get in touch with fish and game, will post when I find out.
  21. Welcome Brian, Gd luck with your boat purchase.
  22. I can't comment on Dace, I would check the regulations and if unsure call proper authorities to be on the safe side.
  23. I usually get them at places where a brook enters a river or around bridge abutments with slow moving water, a way to check if shiners are around is to take a piece of bread roll it into a small ball and throw it into the water, if you see the bread disappear quickly or being pushed around it's usually shiners pecking away at it, then just put some bread into a minnow trap and leave it for a few hours when you come back hopefully its full of shiners, slow moving rivers are usually gd places to check.
  24. Team Luck E Strike RC2 silent 1.5 & 2.5 in Grn Copper these are with out the rattles, smallies love em.
  25. Gd luck Bob, I've fished it a couple of times Jordan Bay,great place for Smallies and Largies.
