  1. Way to go Cresty, looks like you guys had a great day regardless of species. You ever run into any Crappie, I hear they have some gd ones. I've fished the Q for many yrs and have caught many different species but never any Crappie.
  2. Jitterbug and Fly fisherman nice video, one thing I might want to make you guys aware of is your fishing standing up in a canoe with no life jackets that I can see, water temps in the 40s I'll say no more other than that water is mighty cold, and you'll be very surprised how quickly it'll sap the strength right out of you if you fall in or tip over. Not trying to tell you what to do, but........
  3. Take the numbers from the trailer and run them thru the RMV from the state the person lived in where you bought it, your insurance Company may be able to help you. If the person lived in Ma, NH, chances are they'll still have a record of it. Yes, dealing with the RMV in Ma is a real PITA, but according to the registry chair person they're trying to change that image. If you don't get any co-operation ask to speak to a supervior, be polite and diplomatic and you will usually get some results, if you act angry and aggressive than that's what your going to get back. Good luck
  4. Shane, thanks to you and your son. He's been taught well by you that it isn't just about what you get out of the sport but also what you can give back. Congrats on being a gd fisherman and Dad, Well done.
  5. Welcome to the forums. Living and having access in So East Ma you are ln bass heaven, and some of the best water in the entire state of MA. Go on the states fish and wildlife site and browse thru it. The cape is premier water for small and largemouth bass and is heavily stocked with trout, now is the time for the best of yr fishing, the bass are moving into the shallows to spawn, jerkbaits with long pauses and jigs with hula grubs will put you into the bass, for trout powerbait and spinners and spoons will do the trick. A lot of the ponds hold both species, Sheeps pond, Cliff pond, Long pond in Breswster/Harwich. If you don't want to cross the Cape Cod canal there's gd water thru the Rochester Wareham and Carver areas, especially if you can get onto the cranberry bogs, you'll have to get permission but if you ask and be polite and promise not to litter some bog owners will let you on. You truley are a lucky young man living so close to those places so please check out the States web site and go catch them.
  6. Being a teacher is extremely frustrating these days, I hear my daughter-in-law voice the same frustrations. That you care enough to vent is a step in the right direction not only for you but for all your students as well.
  7. Also sorry for your loss. As posted we've all been there and I think most people are understanding but you always run into a jerk once in a while. One thing I may add to above post is have a little prep breakdown pkg, in case of a flat tire do your have the proper jack to lift the trailer with wheel chocks, check your tires for dry rot and proper air pressure, also check your spare tire for pressure and rot and make sure you have the right lug wrench some times the lug nuts are a different size than your car lugs. Gd luck you'll be nervous the first few times but you'll settle in nicely.
  8. If you want to be totally sure, just take the serial # off the evinrude outboard, call an evinrude dealer give him the serial # and I'm sure they will be happy to help you out with the yr of the motor(just in case it is a different yr than the boat) and the fuel to oil ratio to use.
  9. For those of you fishing Ma, Quabbin will be opening on the 26th of Apr.
  10. Dont know if any of you fish MA but official opening for the Quabbin Res will be the 26th of Apr.
  11. Man isn't that the truth. Yes, this guy Rep Davis of Brownville sure does sound like a bit of a strange duck, but just goes to show you the anti fishing and hunting folks will use whatever weapons they can. MaineBass, thanks for the update and info, and I know most of the sportsmen and women usually police themselves pretty gd.
  12. Hey guys , I'm sure most of you know some of the residents of Maine have been trying to get legislation passed to ban soft plastics in the state, lets all make an effort to not throw our used plastics overboard. The trout guys are saying it's killing the fish as they are unable to digest them so please keep used and broken soft plastic baits in the boat and dispose of them properly. we don't need to give the anti fishing people fuel to feed the fire. Thanks.
  13. I use Tuf-line XP in all my saltwater applications, on 2 of my reels I haven't changed line in 4-5yrs, with no issues, just rinse with fresh water when I get home.
  14. Just an update, Lake Masscupic in Dracut/Tyngsboro is wide open.
  15. Your getting very getting very gd advice, another thing you can try is to take a gd pair of pliers and bend the hooks out just a bit at the bend of the hook, wait until you feel the fish, drop your rod quickly while reeling at the same time then snap the tip of the rod up quickly and hard almost like your trying to break the line and reel like crazy. I like a 7'2" heavy ex fast rod with 50lb braid and a high spd reel, but whatever you use snap that rod tip up quick and hard and reel like a mad man. Froggin is fun but your hookup to landing ratio isn't always as gd as it is with other types of fishing just the nature of the beast. Gd luck
  16. Mepps #4 & 5 in firetiger, works for me.
  17. Welcome. I'm a smallie junkie as well and have fished all over New England. Don't over look Maine plenty of big smallies as well as giant LMs. Keep em tight.
  18. Your right a LM is usually fat and lazy, smallies are roamers hunt and seek. Look for humps and drop offs away from shore. Favorite baits jigs, jigs and jigs, tipped with craw immatations, in very early spring when the water is cold suspending jerk baits fished with long pauses are killers, summer, early morning top waters until the sun comes up. remember you may catch more fish along shores but quality fish are along structure away from shore close to deep water. Gd luck.
  19. Have to agree with Fish in Trees. My favorite and has accounted for lots of big early season smallies is the Uncle Josh black widow eel. Don't even know if they still make it or for that matter why I ever got away from it.
  20. Rumor floating on another site of Northern Bass Supply located in Brentwood, NH being bought by Tackle Warehouse. Anyone else know anything about this?
  21. Bob I like the Luck E Strike square bills #2 in green copper shad, and Lucky Craft LV500 in Spring Craw is one of my favorites this time of yr right up until ice.
  22. Extreme northern end of the lake has low water and alot of hidden stumps that hold some nice LM there is an aggressive top water bite very early there, I know some fisherman that will come back to that area often during the day, especially if its cloudy, texas rigged worms work very well there as well, traveling south from the ramp on the west side early bite for LM can be very gd, stay as far from shore as possible and throw grn pumkin with red flake wacky worms as close to shore as possible, about a 1/2 mile from the ramp there is an island smack dab in the centr of the lake that falls off to deep water quickly, hula grubs work well there, there is a big cove about half way down the lake on the left also gd there for smallies if the wind is blowing spinnerbaits are the ticket in there, 3/4 of the way down the lake there is alot of structure that I used to drop shot in with robo worms for smallies. Be very careful there are a lot of unmarked rock piles that have a lot of lower unit paint on them, gd luck
  23. I've shot archery at various levels for many yrs, my recommendation would be to find a reputable archery shop and have them set you up with a gd used bow, with sights and draw wt you can handle. Stay away from the dept stores and sporting gd stores. The key to getting started in archery is to have a bow that fits you properly, along with properly spined arrows, and you'll get that at an archery shop. Don't turn your nose at used bows, I've shot with guys who upgrade their bows on a regular basis and $200 to $300 can get you a really nice complete set up. You say you just want something to screw around with but if the bow doesn't fit right your not going to really enjoy it and your accuracy will be like throwing a hand full of pebbles at a barn door.
  24. I've told you before the bass fishing in Maine is terrible don't waste your time, go to NH the bass fishing there is fantastic.
  25. Six of one half dozen the other. If you go to Northwood make sure you bring blk/blue jig gd bait for that lake.
