  1. I'm with Goose, when that Manns Jelly worm first came out I couldn't get enough of the 9" in Blkgrape, caught alot of nice fish on it. Now I mainly fish the Blk Culprit worm deady on a C-rig. Going to be trying the Zworm in elaztec on the C-rig, it floats see if it makes a difference.
  2. Man up it's just a shot, believe me tetanus is 1000xs worse than the shot
  3. If you go to Maines dept of inland fisheries website there will be a list of lakes and ponds in each county, very helpful and informative as to species, and access. would also recommend a maine gazateer to help you get along,it list maps throughout the state page by page, it's money well spent and very helpful, some very nice ponds and lakes in that area. Congratulations on your wedding, enjoy your honeymoon.
  4. I own one Falcon and it's an OK rod. Did you consider Powell, makes a pretty gd rod for the money,gd quality,gd variety of power and actions, and a gd warranty, I own 3 of them and have had zero issues with any of them.
  5. Way to go Cresty. Glad to hear their are others that refuse to fish for bedding fish, going to only get better in the nxt 2 wks. Gd luck.
  6. I have a couple of spinnerbaits that i've changed the blade colors to firetiger along with the firetiger colored skirts, when the wind is blowing I throw them in clear water, the smallies hammer them. I also like throwing the #4 in line Mepp spinners in firetiger for smallies after the spawn. Haven't had much luck with firetiger colored cranks though.
  7. Was scheduled to fish Arrowhead this coming wk but due to the dam being out and water levels way down I"m changing to Square Pond, so looking for info on Square Pond in Shapliegh, Me. I know it has both species of Bass, but what about quality of fish and baits to try for this time of yr. Any info whould be greatly appreciatedThanks
  8. i've heard the dam at Arrowhead is down and out and lake is very low, anyone have any info on this. Was planning a trip there nxt wk. Is it fishable, any info will be greatly appreciated.
  9. Off to the Quabbin again yesterday, arrived at gate 43 at 7:15, air temp 36 degrees water temps up almost 10 degreees to 61. started on the humps with a couple of followers no takers, moved a little closer to shore and connected on a nice 3lber, saw a couple of beds but no one home. Down the lake toward the pass to a couple of spawning flats, more spawing beds but all empty. moved a little deeper and picked up a couple on the jig, decided to go thru the pass and over to a good sized cove where we connected last wk, about a half a dozen on jerk baits biggest over 4lbs, friend with me stuck a jerk bait treble past the barb so after removing that and some first aid we moved little further down the lake to a huge flat, dead calm water started thowing the jig with rage craw trailer and immediately connected on a 4.2, then 2 over 3lbs, then a big tank going 5.4, there were fish cruising everywhere, we went around the corner and connected on another big fish 5lbs even, probably caught around 25 smallies and others that just would pick it up and drop it before I could set the hook. Place is a remarkable fishery, it's been so long since I've caught a 5lb smallie (and never at Quabbin) but to catch 2 over 5 and another 2 over 4, I truely feel blessed in my old age. Again sorry about no pics, but if I can get my son over here to tranfer them from my I phone, or if someone can give me instructions on how to do it, I'll post them up. Have to believe these fish will be on beds big time within the nxt few days and after seeing so many dead fish lying on beds on Winni a number of yrs back I refuse to fish for bedding fish.
  10. I cannot comment on Optima batteries other than to say they are expensive and if not properly taken care of than they too will not last. I can tell you that when I bought my boat I was informed of how to take care of my trolling motor batteries,. First off your electronics should be wired to your cranking battery not your trolling motor battery, I buy AC Delco M29 batteries for my 2 boats one has a 12 volt motor the other is a 24 volt system I get a minimum of 4yrs from my batteries(AC Delco M29) the key with keeping your batteries fresh is to use them and when U get home put them on the charger right away and only charge them until they indicate they are fully charged or if you have a charger that automatically shuts off when they are fully charged, do not leave them on the charger for an extended period of time, keep doing this and your batteries will develope a memory of this, at the end of the yr if you live in a cold climate remove them from the boat, fully charge them (do not leave them on the charger)and put them in the basement on a block of wood do not put them on concrete it will suck the water from your batteries. If you do as I indicated above you too should get 4-5yrs from your batteries. Again I highly recommend the AC Delco M29s they are priced from $110 to $130 a piece, my friends and I use them and we are very satisfied with them. I'm sure there are others that are gd but these are what I use. Hope this helps.
  11. Fished Quabbin Sun and Mon, Sun was a slow day only managed 4 fish, 2 on Spider grubs and 2 on Jerkbaits, water temps 51 to 54 degrees, no wind, which I believe really effected the fishing, a lot of followers and not many takers, and water down a whole bunch, had to do alot of manuvering to get to some of the ol spots due to low water. Monday with alot more wind and a different gate # to fish out of, managed close to 20 smallies with biggest a little over 4lbs, most coming from a small wind blown cove that I had never stopped at before, we stopped to have something to eat and drink and just let the wind blow us in there, place was loaded with scattered rock and gravel, so we started throwing the jerk baits, managed a couple of smaller fish, and with the wind picking up and colder temps we down sized to smaller jerkbaits and it was just the ticket, tried the jig and only managed a couple which is usually a sure thing, really wanted to get to a big spawing flat I know of but it was at least another mile down the lake against increasing winds, and with a long ride back and having to go thru the pass then back 4miles to the launch area all against the wind we left. Water temps down 4 degrees from Sunday. Sorry no pics only on the I phone and I have no idea how to get them from there to here. Going to try hopefully again on Fri but if not, it will be on Mon. If any of U folks have time off during the wk and would like to go PM me and we'll see if we can hook up, leaving from Dracut, share gas $, time is now the fishing is only getting better for the nxt couple of wks, and I'm really don't like fishing them on the beds.
  12. Way to go Will, Great report. No your not crazy, just crazy about fishin, been blown off that place more than once and seems in the spring it's always a wet ride thru the pass. I'm there tomorrow and Monday hopefully I'll connect, if not it won't be the first time Miss Q has handed me my butt.
  13. Hey Will, Enjoyed your write up. I use the dip it paints on my bismuth/tin jig heads, I hold the hook bend with a pair of pliers and run the head under the gas flame (I do it when the little woman isn't home)and hold em there just long enough to get the paint to stick then its back and forth under the flame to get the paint to cure and yes I do ruin some on occassion, It's a pain in the butt but it works, sometimes I ask myself does color really make a difference on a jig head. I'll be on the Q on Sun and Mon. throwing Jerks, slow crawling hula grubs, kalin grubs, and throwing the blade. report to follow.
  14. I own 4 Powell Maxx 2 spinning and 2 casting, with the 704 being my favorite, they've been fished hard and I've had zero issues.
  15. I know Massabessic is open, Corbbetts, Canobie, Beaver Lake are open. not real familiar with the law as far as fishing on waters with trout in them. Pretty much all the lakes are open in the So Eastern part of the state. Saw four boats out on the Nashua River in the Groton, Ma area.
  16. I've caught lots of smallies on in line spinners my favorite is a #4 mepps in firetiger. Usuall vary retrieve bbut what works the best is usually a retrieve just fast enough to make the blade turn.
  17. I agree, those are some nice fish. What I don't understand is where did all these fish go, if everyone is practicing catch and release then where are the fish they released? With less water I would think the fish would be more congrigated into the water that's available thus making them easier to find, easier to find fish in 10 acres than in 100 acres.
  18. Hey Largemouth Magic, I'm from Ma. and ran into the same problem as alot of people when having to go to lead free, I couldn't find people to make lead free for a decent price. I can highly recommend Mike Siebert who is a member here, contact Seibert Outdoors, the man does an awesome job, gd quality jigs with gd hooks and skirts, with a quick turnaround time, at a gd price. I think his are Bismouth and Tin, it's alot cheaper than tungstin. Give him a shout, I don't think you'll be disappointed.
  19. Shimano Curado E7 & BPS Johnny Morris Gold
  20. I'm going to try some things that used to work for me yrs ago, don't know why I got away from them, slow drag a Kalins grub, same with a tube, used to be killer, and I'm going to catch a fish on a blade bait if it kills me, was talking to a guy yesteday about using a keitech fat rigged on am underspin he says to fish it just fast enough to get the blade to turn, according to him it's a killer cold water rig, and of course as Shane stated jig works for me. Just a couple more weeks for the Quabbin. praying for a couple of warm, windy rainy days.
  21. Why are these tree hugers always trying to get new regs,to hurt the sportsman & then they get the legislators to back them when they know it's fisherman, hunters, and the outdodors people who thru their buying products, permits and licenses that generate most of the conservation and animal protection monies. I'm only hopping that if these new regs are true that the sporting gd stores, hotel and motel owners and restraunts, and service stations put some pessure on the legislators to repeal these regs, after all if passed it is they that will be hurt the most if the sportsman stop going to their state to hunt and fish.
  22. i was wondering if anyone has heard of a new regulation or proposed legislation to be introduced regarding fishing within 250ft of shore, dock, raft, or moored boat? I saw this on another site and was wondering if there was any validity to it? Leave it to New England, are we the only part of the USA filled with wackos. U never here of these regs anywhere else, and how do they get these things past anyway?
  23. Some of my favorites are jigs, grubs, and when the water gets close to 50 a lipless crankbait is always worth some casts at each stop.
  24. Took a ride today here is the latest. In Nashua NH the ramp for the Nashua River behind the stadium is gd to go. The launch in Groton for the nashua river is also gd to go but with a gd amount of mud, wouldn't attempt it without 4 wheel drive and I would be very careful your vehicle doesn't slide into the river so I would bring another guy and have some kind of chaulk system just in case. Went by a few lakes in the Westford, Pepperell,Groton area some starting to show along the edges and with some wind and warm weather should be open real soon. If I see anything in my travels open up I'll post it. Won't be long now.
