If you are fishing for smallmouths they tend to stack up in schools of the same size. If you can throw out a marker and look for bigger fish. If you don't find any come back to your marker and at least catch something. Whatever bait you are using you could always try to upsize it as well.

It makes you wonder how much the sporting world will change the more that we learn about head trauma.

One thing you can do is use a carolina rig to feel the bottom and get and idea for depth and drop offs it will help give you a better understanding of what the lake's bottom is like then you can attack it from there

jerkbaits and spinnerbaits in current always work well Also if you want to drive south an hour the hocking river in between nelsonville and Athens is a great smallmouth stream that is easily fished from the bank

The first fish I caught was with my great grandfather my grandfather my father and brother. I have known no other way of life. Since then all have passed other than my brother. Now it is him and his son. It should always be passed down. To me it is like breathing.

1. I have many rods for many uses. As you said I have a one weight that is 6 foot that I use on small native streams 2. Yes the new rods are much better as far as sensitivity goes. 3. I strip in smaller fish but bigger fish that is going to be a long fight I always get on the reel 4. Can't fish topwatter flies with sinking line but you can fish nymphs and others that sink with floating line

I had a day like that a few years ago while duck hunting. A buddy of mine borrowed one of our friends boats. We go to load it and while we are throwing in the decoys the boats start sinking well pull it out and no plug. So we let it drain and thank God I had one in a bag that I had brought. Put it back in the water and get ready to launch and it start sinking again. WTH. Take it back to my buddies house and find out that he took the depth finder out and forgot. So we decide to go get my john boat. We load it up and take it to my dads on the ohio. River we were only going less than a half of a mile. Start up the boat to head over to the island and water is running fast. Well as we are pulling in the island the engine quits. Forgot to fill the gas tank. I said tick on it we would hunt any way. Put out all of the decoys and set up the blind and hide the boat. Well after an hour of nothing a boat comes up to us. Well it was DNR. Both my buddy and I are by the book guys. He checks our licenses and starts talking to us. Said the only way he spotted us was he could see my shiny boat even though we tried to hide it. Then we got to talking about our guns. I was using an over and under but my buddy had his benelli. The officer asks to see it. My friend had forgot to put the plug in because he was target shooting the day before. Well there was a ticket even though he had only loaded three shells in it and had the plug in his bag. We go back to hunting and forgot to ask for a tow back to the dock. So now we have to paddle back but it is upsteam and I only have one oar. I had to point it straight across the river and by the time we got to shore we were over a mile away and had to carry the boat back to Dads property. Made for a long day but many laughs over the years. Hang in there you will have better days.

I guess I should clarify. I am looking forward to being a firefighter. I actually was a volunteer a long time ago and enjoyed it. I am looking forward more to being able to open up our business together. Being a firefighter will allow me the opportunity to have health insurance, state retirement, and a decent fall back salary. As far as not disappointing my brother and father. I just want to be the best I can be. The business that we will be doing is construction. We are both GC's. He has two young kids that I look forward to seeing more. In the last few years we have lost almost all of our family. This gives me the chance to spend time with my brother. Lord knows they don't make anymore of it. My dream Job is to build. But as anyone who has ever done it knows that is up and down. The firefighter is security for myself and family.

Oh I am. I thank you guys for the support. Here is a fun fact. For ten years my brother was the one that trained all of the rookies, so it will be the opposite of favoritism. Chances are I will have one of the roughest first years of any rookie to date.

tried to just start their life over. A little info on me and my family. My dad was a paramedic for his whole adult life. He worked his ass off so I would not have to. My brother and I always looked up to him. He was not only our father but our best friend. I was fortunate enough to go to college and then law school. I hated being an attorney. I worked on both sides and felt horrible every night and ever morning. I prosecuted people that should have never been and defended people that should never take another breath. I justified it for awhile saying that I took an oath and that was my duty. My brother went the other route, he became a fireman. He has served his city for 15 years and loves waking up every day that he has to go to work. He works the busiest house and trains all of the new guys. He is well respected and has one the states fireman of the year award. Five years ago I quit practicing law after one of my clients killed themselves even though I had convinced the Judge that he was no danger to himself or others. Since then I have been doing consulting jobs and flipping houses. Now my brother wants me to go take the fire fighters test. This is my last year of eligibility. My brother asked me to come join him and start our own company on the side. I am scared to death. I do not want to disappoint him or my late father. I am going to be a 34 year old rookie. Sorry for the rant guys, I just know that this is some of the best guys to talk to other than Raider.

My favorite fishing is wet wading streams for smallmouths

Went hunting with my brother one time and we decided to take a ride about 60 miles on the side by side to get to special spot that we knew. I quit gunning hunting years ago so I was just along for the ride. Our gun cases are identical. So I grab the shells and he grabs the gun case and away we went. Three hours later we get there and go to load the gun. He brought my 300 win mag and I brought his 7mm shells. Good thing we had a cooler of beer for the ride back.
