  1. u40 cork sealant. I'm not aware of any place that sells it for local pick up. There's a few father day sales going on that will save you some dough. A little goes a long way /w U40. Just take your time. if you need any filler, go to Home Depot or Lowes and get the Elmers filler in light oak.
  2. Hes asking specifically about tthe dobyns glass rods, not a buggy whip s-glass. Huge difference
  3. so you're questioning if one of the best pitching/flipping/dock fisherman to have ever lived is right about how he sets his reel to skip...?
  4. Dobyns 705CB Glass Fast I use it for squarebills and mid divers but have used it for everything you have mentioned. If you haven't done any research on the rod, it has a graphite butt section and top half is glass. It fishes like a traditional fast action rod until you have a fish loaded up. Then it acts as a glass rod. I don't know what the second post in this thread is talking about, it has plenty of power to set the hook. I use upgraded thick EWG trebles on a lot of my square bills and they are always pinned. I would only recommend the graphite if you were ripping grass. The glass can do it, but it can become a chore unless you use braid.
  5. both are fine for leader material. both are even better for main line. I have had zero "wirey" issues /w shooter and very rarely ever use line conditioner on it. It is hands down the finest line I've ever used. it manages extremely well, has the lowest stretch of any fluoro I've used and is abrasion resistant. You are obviously free to spend your money in any way you want but again, paying a premium for a line you use 7' at a time is a waste of money. The only fluorocarbon attributes you get form using braid and a leader are its sinking factor, abrasion resistance and its "invisibility" you don't get its best attribute which is its sensitivity on a slack line. Braid doesn't transmit vibrations on a slack line. if you fish a tightline most of the time, then don't worry about it. get a small spool of actual leader material and call it good.
  6. for straight fluoro-i prefer shooter but sniper is great and something i use as well for a leader-paying that much for a section of leader material is a monstrous waste of money and pointless get the actual spool of leader material. its pretty cheap
  7. I don't think it's been confirmed yet but if I had to guess the differences between the two it would be the spool material/weight and lesser quality bearings are found in the new Citica.
  8. for what you want and what you are willing to spend your options are very limited. Get the Daiwa lexa that is being heavily discounted.
  9. Well thanks for the heads up! I guess I can't stop combing the local Chinese buffets
  10. I'm still looking for your dogs
  11. Not really. your largest upgrades to reduce weight are going to be the handle/knobs and spool. The difference will be grams not ounces. you can go for the Ize Pe long cast spool and get a small carbon fiber handle with tiny knobs and the reduction will be greater but not totally noticeable. anything else is purely cosmetic,
  12. Some are, some aren't. Go to Hedgehog studios or call Brian at the TackleTrap. The basics most do: TDZ100m spool some sort of 90mm CF handle worm/drive bushing to bearings knobs with 2 BB per handle Carbontex drag Drag Star everything after that is purely cosmetic
  13. DX745 OGZillion /w upgaded spool/handle 20# sniper
  14. either make your own if you're handy or pony up 35$ for either the boca pliers or hedgehog tool. I hate the pliers and much prefer the hedgehog. just buy the tool. It's more than worth it.
  15. Chatterbait style baits tend to have a better hook up ratio /w a "delayed" hook set to allow a fish to take the bait. I've tried it on a glass rod and didn't like the feeling of retrieving and felt it took too much effort to effectively rip it thorough grass. I used the 733 for a while /w fluoro and, like you mentioned, wasn't getting a solid enough hook set with the larger hooks these baits use. It worked, but wasn't ideal. I tried braid on a 3 power Dobyns and it helped the hook up ratio but with a line that lacks stretch, i felt like I was almost over working the rod with the baits I throw. Went to a 734 that is a tad faster and used fluoro. Perfect rod and line set up for how and where I fish chatterbait style baits which is around grass and wood. It has enough power to turn a fish around and the stretch in fluorocarbon allows a fish to take the bait a touch longer but also transmits better feel on slack line bites. I do use high end fluorocarbon that has quite a bit lower stretch and better abraison/handling properties than lower end line. that may or may not effect your experience.
  16. Dobyns Champ 734 15# fluoro that rod has a bladed swim jig tied on it more times than not.
  17. you're going to need a new spool. I hate those pliers.
  18. If you're interested in Dobyns, wait few weeks for the 4th of July sales and get the DX744 for under 300. Would be perfect for what you want to use it for.
  19. REM oil for spool bearings-Yellow rocket fuel is also top notch. I prefer the lowest viscosity I can find for ceramics. Daiwa Blue oil for anything else that requires oil.
  20. I use 20# shooter on 3/16oz-3/4oz trigs all the time. No issues. I fish a lot of wood and rock
  21. Casting St. Croix Avid/Legend Tournament Bass 68MXF 50 size shimano 30# braid or 12-15# mono depending on open water vs around cover Enjoy.
