  1. and they never heard from that girl ever again
  2. So don't use backing for braid....but when the old braid is used up, use that as backing. that's some solid logic. OR....Take a 150 yd spool of 65#PP and use 75 yds + backing thus resulting in better casting distance and more life out of line. If you spool all 150 yds on 1 reel, your casting will be drastically effected towards the lower life of the spool. Not to mention it isn't cost effective if you want to use the line on more than one reel. Did you even think that thought through? If you're in the braid/fluoro leader camp, then not using backing on your reel is a giant waste of money as you're never casting more than 40 yds anyway. Anywho, most of my reels use shooter, tatsu and sniper so I like getting the most out of the line. I count out 55 yards of shooter and 65 yards of tatsu/sniper, spool it on the reel, and then reel the backing on until it's at the spot that i desire. Back the line off I use a line counter and 2 spare abu garcia 6500s. Really only have to do this once per reel every couple years.
  3. why is that? I use photobucket for this site quite a bit.
  4. Good choice. I'd take the Champ over the Avid any day. dobyn's warranty is top notch and, unlike St. Croix, you can trade your used champ in for a DX at only the difference between the two. 734 is your rod.
  5. I visit Raider's sister once a month so.....12 times a year /w colder months being a better shot at my PB.
  6. No. They have no effect on casting distance in spinning reels and in general a greased bearing is more efficient in providing a smooth retrieve than a high quality oiled bearing that will require more maintence
  7. If you're set on only fishing the weights you mentioned in what sounds like in thick cover, the 766 would be the best option in the Dobyn's lineup. I used to use it for punching 1oz-1.5oz weights. It is a BEAST of a rod and you will never be under gunned. If possible, try and hook up or talk to Paul Mueller(Dobyns Pro). He finished 2nd in the Classic last year and guides on Candlewood Lake I believe quite a bit. As for the differences in the 4 power loomis vs 5 power dobyns, it isn't cut and dry. For example, My NRX894 fishes heavier than the DX745 but I would say the NRX 893 is pretty close to the 744. Long story short, there is no direct comparison. The NRX894 is the greatest rod I've ever used for pitching jigs into brush/laydowns/trees/bushes. If you can bear to wait until black friday, you can easily get a DX795 for 260 brand new. This rod will punch 1.5oz weights and flip/pitch 3/8oz+ trig and bring anything out of anything. It's a really special rod.
  8. Id rather catch that 9# brown than a 10#bads. I bet that trout fight was epic. Browns are a riot.
  9. Call me crazy....why would you get a custom rod built before having the reel for it? I am SUPER anal about balance on a spinning rod. It has to be perfect. anywho, before I even opened up the topic, It was the rarenium ci4+ for me.
  10. I had the champ 766 . Used it for punching. It is a beast of a rod. Not a great rod for avg 3/8-1/2oz jigs. It is by all definitions a HEAVY Cover rod
  11. The only other thing I can think of since you've checked your guides is your knot "popping" I don't use the single palomar knot on anything. It's a super strong knot but it can pop. I personally use the snell when punching and I've never once had a knot pop or unexplained break off. Frogs get a double palomar.
  12. It sounds like your tungsten weights either don't have an insert and have some sort of a jagged edge somewhere in them. Some "cheap" tungsten has hidden edges in the weight that aren't smooth that you will never see. I would expect this to happen /w larger lead. It isn't smooth at all after a few minutes of hitting something.
  13. larger diameter line won't allow the bait to dive as deep. I believe the dt10 is rated to dive to 10 feet on 12# line (might be 10, I don't remember) going up to 17-20# mono will keep the bait higher in the water column.
  14. Im not skeptical. I believe that one went over yoyr head. Sick reel though.
  15. Understandable
  16. Grow a set. Man up. It is literally that easy. Or this.. You're* Hillbilly.
  17. Really good so far. Ref's blew two calls that both went philly's way in the last minute /w 4 to go. there was absolutely now way that was a horse collar tackle on mccoy. and that's what they have been talking about. games tied now /w 3:25 left.
  18. Everytime Gruden hosts MNF and talks defense this and defense that, I guarantee he is doing so /w half a chub. Everything is defense /w this guy.
  19. put a rubberband around the line to keep it intact or place a piece of tape on the spool. Fill out the form, box it up, send it away. That's all you need to do. Mind you, the turn around time as of late is awful. i sent in a reel to get fixed almost 3 weeks ago and it still isn't completed..You also won't hear anything back from Daiwa apparently unless there are charges involved. They will just fix the reel and send it back to you. When you do send your reel in, wait a week for it to get processed. If you get somebody named Toby helping you, ask to talk to somebody else. That incompetent blowhard went to look for my reel and didn't call me back when he said he would and never responded to my voice messages. If you want to wait a while for the reel w/o charge, send it to Daiwa. If not and dont mine paying a few $$, send it to the site sponsor DVT.
