Lol, I know I am ready for spring to come! Yesterday and today and all of this week it looks like, the highs are going to be in the 50s. So I thought maybe I could go out to Lake Orange, try my new boat out and see how it goes...well I got there and only a SMALL portion of the lake is open. All that was open was from the boat launch to the bank across from it (which is only 40 yards) and up the cove where the boat launch is which is another 70 yards. So here I am attempting to fish in a cove that is 210' X 120' in my new v boat. Nobody was there except a few people trying to fish off the pier which has frozen water all around it. I know I can't wait til spring/summer. My little V boat was heavy! (yes the one in the pictures) So I had a helping hand from some nice fella. I fished for only an hour or two, then came home (pretty much I just got back from it and I am typing about it lol). It is a beautiful day! I'll put it this way I walked outside with shorts and a muscle shirt (wife-beater), and it felt nice. My clothes were wet from the v boat while trying to load it onto the truck. Needless to say I will wait until ALL ice melts off the lake before I go out. I had no luck, but at least I had some fun in my little V boat. The little 27# thrust trolling motor that came with it has some power, especially in reverse. It has 5 speed forward and 3 speed back. 5 speed forward isn't as powerful as a 55# thrust trolling motor in 3 speed but it is better than a paddle lol! ;D Oh well I had fun and got to play in my Jon Boat. And for those here in my area (Orange, Culpepper, Fredericksburg, Mineral, etc.) do NOT fish in Lake Orange right now even though the air temp is warm. There is still TONS of ice on the water. God bless PS: Laugh if you will...personally I am kind of giggling at my attempt too...all that work to load up the boat and prepare. SEESHH! Ain't worth it! ;D ;D ;D

Only a guy would do this or the Jack@$$ guys would! Have you guys seen this movie and seen the special features? They actually took a stun gun and turned it on and basically played "Stun Gun Potato" with it. It was funny! I've read this before. I've never been stunned by a stun gun, and I pray to god I never will. ;D

I bet that was cold... and a flasher is similar to a sonar fish finder except it flashes out sound waves and works just like a sonar, and on the screen it has a dial or gauge on it, when there's a fish it registers a higher gauge, when it is plain bottom there is a certain gauge it reads. Much like a EMF meter (Electro Magnetic Field). (CORRECT ME IF I AM WRONG LOL)

If you were to use the spinner-bait try the slow-roll retrieve with a colorado blade. Basically, just cast the spinner-bait out, let it sink to the bottom (line quits going out), and slowly reel the spinnerbait in then. The idea to winter fishing is S-L-O-W presentations. A worm, jig&Pig, or other plastics, and remember the bass' metabolism is slow, so they won't hit a huge lure (well they will!) but it is better to go along with a small worm, lure etc. Like instead of a 5" worm, throw out a 3-4" worm. A good technique for worms would be either the carolina, texas rigged or the drop shot rig. Fish those around sunken cover/structure or near dropoffs! Good luck! God bless 8-)

Ben, don't feel bad man, the qualifier for our region for the JWC (to determine who was going to Alabama) at Potomac River, I missed it by 2 ounces. I was sooooo close to getting the oppertunity to fish the JWC and if I would have won JWC I would be representing our region rather than Stephen Carr. I lost the qualifier to Doug Spangler of Warren County here in Virginia. The prefish day I had an awesome day, I caught 9 fish the biggest was 4 pounds, and 4 fish were above 2 pounds! But the tournament came and I caught two giving me a total of 3 pounds 12 ounces and doug spangler knocked me out by 2 ounces (3 pounds 14 ounces). Man I was ticked! I tell you though, it goes to show you, fishing is unpredictable! You can totally anhiliate the competition one day for the pre-fish but then turn around and loose the tournament. Needless to say I was recognized in our club that day and my name was put in our public paper!! I was the center of attention I tell you! Or like me in a previous tournament we held, catch nothing all day until the last 5 minutes, catch a bass that will put you in 2nd! Yes! 1 bass put me in second place!! It was 2 pounds 10 ounces, everyone that day caught small fish except Stephen Carr, he caught a 3 pounder. Mine was the 2nd big fish and I got rewarded. My partner and friend Randy Beasley caught 3, but I beat his 3 with my one by like 6 ounces. Ben23, even though you think your performance was aweful, think about it...you said TONS of people didn't catch anything! You did outstanding those days to come out of it with something, especially 2nd place from regional! That is fantastic! You have been somewhere kids in this world dream of being!! And remember it is not about winning, it is all about having fun and making friends. And I tell you, you've got plenty here at BR! I am proud of you and I know you will always do great. Everyone has their days, I've been to many tournaments and been skunked. For instance for the JWC qualifiers at Lake Gaston over the summer (where Stephen Carr qualified), a few kids caught bass, I was the only one that day not only to not catch bass.....but to catch a stinking Chain Pickerel! Which wasn't allowed!! The thing was at least 15" long and he put on a fight! There were some docks (Gaston is deep! the docks may stick out 10 feet from the bank and at the end of it you are in 15' of water) and my boat captain noticed there were some brush piles at the edge of the dock so I took a weightless, wacky rigged YUM Dinger and let it float down. Not 2 minutes later (the bait was only about 5-10' below surface) BAM! I felt that bugger hit and when I brought it up it took away my breath lol! Needless to say it was a cool experience to pass around and tell stories but it was worthless in the tournament. But I still had fun fighting that rascal and I was recognized as well! Just because you have a hard time in a tournament doesn't mean you are a bad angler. Look at me, there are plenty people better than me and I am learning everyday, you are obviously a better angler than me, you made it to the classic and I didn't, I came close, but I didn't make it! I give you a pat on the back and clap of the hands! God bless Ben and I hope your fishing is better in the future! 8-)

Got a real smart woman there man! I hope I can find someone like that! Most of the time women like shiny jewelry and they want you to buy it. Some women are like leeches, sucking your money and life away, but some (in your case) are nice, kind and smart. They want things they need, not things they wouldn't use or just to have... You picked a perfect woman Valascus! Two thumbs up man! ;D
