  1. Same thing happened to my friends finesse worm when we had that tournament in Motts Run in Fredericksburg. Newts were all over the logs and such and when we tried to fish the logs the newts were I guess mating with the worm. Like LBH said, I am sure some newts are rather poisonous and I guess they all release that odor when they are attacked, which will deter any predatorial fish. idk, maybe bass feed on the younger ones instead of the adult ones... :-/
  2. Thanks all! Can't wait to see it! God bless 8-)
  3. I've just got word from our advisor for our club (OCHS Anglers) that in this month's article of bass times magazine I will be featured. I don't know what all it will have but I do know that she told me my picture is in there reguarding the Hot Side Lake Anna tournament my club held back in January, the one I placed 2nd in. This is just a heads up for it! God bless and hopefully yall are as excited as I am lol! 8-) ;D
  4. I guess that's why the lizard is such a good bait lol! Weightless and let it float on the surface = BASS! ;D
  5. My brother had a bass once and it was in a fish tank. He used to feed it bugs and stuff but when it got big enough he used to feed it mice, worms (real worms), crayfish, and all kinds of stuff. The bass ended up being 3 pounds and he caught it in the Rappahannock River when it was like 6" long. He kept it for a while and then it died. But that was neat! Even though it is kind of cruel (but not really) I would like to have a bass in a fish tank in my room, that would be neat! But I think bass need to be in their natural habitat, I would hate to be in a tank three times bigger than me and have nothing to do but look at people and eat... Neat-o vide-o though!
  6. [move]HAPPY EASTER EVERYONE[/move]! 8-) 8-) 8-) Let's all celebrate by having Rabbit Stew today!!! ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D Everyone have a great time finding those easter eggs!!! ;D ;D ;D
  7. Lol personally I can't imagine purchasing a $48 lure!! I think the most expensive lure I've bought are my YUM Dingers...they run for about $6-7 a pack! And also my BOOYAH! 1/2 ounce spinnerbaits in my fav color which run maybe $7. I wil not spend more than that on ANY lure! Maybe equipment, but not lures. ;D
  8. and also if you release that record bass, in the future when the bass grows it will be another record for someone to catch. Keeping that chain going on is indeed a great thing to do! I agree with you 100% BMA13! 8-)
  9. Sorry Sam, me and my folks won't be able to make it... We've got plans... Thanks for the invite though! God bless and eat some crawfish for me will ya????? ;D
  10. If I caught the state record here (which is like 16 pounds and 9 ounces) I will throw it in my pond lol!!! Then again depending on if anyone seen it and if the press was there I would throw it back.. God bless 8-)
  11. I remember everyone talking about something about that bma13 got them in my "April Fools Pranks" post, but now I know what everyone was talking about! ;D ;D ;D ;D I probably would have fell for it...then again, I might have figured it was a joke.... IDK.... Good one though lol! ;D 8-)
  12. So...how many of you guys pranked someone today?? I didn't, personally I was busy getting my fishing gear ready for next weekends tournament and I've been planning it out. Also spending some time down at the pond goofing around ;D Out of curiosity, who all did and how'd you do it? 8-)
  13. I talked it over with my folks and they may be interested. I just need a conclusive answer, if I get one, I will let you know God bless (and thanks for inviting me and my folks along! Appreciate it!) 8-)
  14. Went down to the pond today and pitched around my Culprit Finesse worm texas style. Didn't really expect anything to hit I just wanted to enjoy the outdoors. I worked my way around the pond and got to the creek cove when all of a sudden I felt two instant taps and then, whamo! I set the hook and brought up a 10" bass. I felt kind of guilty setting the hook (really want the bass to settle down and at least start eating baitfish before catching them and releasing them), so I casted back out and then I felt tap tap tap, wham, and then I watched the fish drag my line all over the area lol and then it released it. I thought to myself "this is fun and funny at the same time" (simple minds are amused by simple things...lol). And I continued it and I tell you for every time I felt taps if I would have set the hook, I would have had enough bass to feed my family and then some lol! But instead I just had fun down by the creek cove, feeling the taps, whams and watching my line run. So that is an easy indicator that the fish are feeding (good thing). We are going to stock the pond tomorrow with another 20 pounds of fat head minnows so they will have plenty to eat. Hopefully later on this week I might hit the Lake and really catch some bass on my worm!! God bless 8-)
  15. Our spring break doesn't start until next week :'( :-[ but when it does come I am fishing everyday!!!!!! ;D
  16. For us it was just a jon boat tournament. We had like 7 or 8 jon boats, and like 2 or 3 big bass boats (used trolling motor only), but nobody caught their limit, I would have had my limit if I would have set a better hookset on all the fish I missed. A few nice fish were weighed in (like I noted above) and like 5 people didn't catch anything. It was pretty tough, the cold front that blew in the night before sent the bass deeper. A few were shallow, I seen a 10" bass sitting on a stump in like 2 feet of water and tons of little bass (4"-6") sitting under submerged logs. Most of my hits come from deep areas, with the exception of the one I caught which come from maybe 3-4' off of the beaver dam. I think in my spare time I am going to head back and fish it again. It would certainly be a blast! I think yesterday I had more hits than anybody and I would have had either 1st or 2nd if I would have bagged all the ones I lost lol! I agree with you 100% niksfishinmom! God bless 8-)
  17. I dream bass fishing 24/7.... I dream about it at night and then I day dream about it during the day....No wonder why I can't keep track on whats going on in class.... ;D ;D ;D All I think about during class is "How am I going to hit that Lake Today (where to fish) and what to use???" I've had dreams where I thought they were real and woke up expecting to have my rod and reel in my hand lol!!! I've also had nightmares that I am fishing the bayous of Louisianna and there are crocs in the river... :o :o God bless
  18. We went to Motts Run Reservoir today from 8:00am until 2:00pm. Some people caught fish and some didn't. The biggest caught was by a member of our club, Warren Gallahan who caught a 4.5 pounder. I teamed up with Randy Beasley in his "Sea Nymph" (16' jon boat with compartments, etc.). Randy and I had little luck, Randy missed one small fish on a log, and I missed 6 fish! one was at least two pounds! I was using my Culprit Finesse worm Texas style, we were fishing snags (trees, grass, etc.) and the thumps of the branches felt like snags (I know I lost at least 4 worm hooks and bullet weights and god knows how many culprit worms!!!). So every fish I missed felt like snags so I was kind of afraid to set the hook thinking it was a snag, but instead to get it off the "snag" I gave it a harder twitch which apparently in some cases they were fish. And with that hard twitch it barely set the hook in. I brought 1 to the boat today and unfortunately Randy didn't bring any... When I lost that 2 pounder you could hear me cussing from space! Randy knows lol! And when Randy lost his fish, he drew the attention of some locals on the Lake with his swearing lol! NOTE TO RANDY: Just like I say, "When in doubt set the hook!" (don't worry I need to adhere to that quote from me as well!) I just need to buy more worm hooks, bullet weights and culprit finesse worms lol!!!! Other than that it was a great day, good to spend time on the water with a friend and enjoy the outdoors. I am proud to say I didn't touch my spinnerbait!! (usually that's all I fish with), instead I was kind of stubborn with that finesse worm lol! I did throw a chatter-bait once or twice but otherwise that was it. All day long me and Randy threw finesse worms (Randy did also throw a chatterbait a few times). Mainly our hits were coming from our worms. That cold front last night really changed the fish up...it got below freezing last night!!!! Hopefully the next week or so will be warm. God bless 8-)
  19. I believe I've done it. I flipped my texas rigged culprit finesse worm at that pond yesterday and had a hit (it struck it and it was too late when I set the hook, he got off; I seen the fish). I cast back to the same area and I caught him (right back to the same area.) God bless 8-)
  20. lol yeah, first off when Randy introduced me to her I pictured the singer Madonna. Randy if you read this I mean no disrespect bud! 8-) She really is a nice girl, her personality is one that I like to be around (good sense of humor, exaggerates and is very, very sarcastic; I am one sarcastic guy lol!) God bless
  21. Along with the spinnerbait, the crankbait, jerkbait or any fish imitation lures will be good. Plastics and soft lures will be keen. With leafy bottoms, I would try a jig, chatterbait, texas or wacky rigged worm, crankbait, or anything to hover over the bottom. Post spawn is best (before spring) with spinnerbait. I feel that the summer will be excellent in that reservoir. The mud will warm up in the summer, therefore the bass will be all over the place! Good luck! 8-)
  22. Went out with Randy Beasley and his girlfriend Madonna today, we fished two ponds down the road from his house. I caught a total of 8 and he caught 5. The biggest was his at 1 pound 8 ounces (I believe, didn't measure it, he guessed lol!). My biggest I believe was at a pound. Anyway, we had a blast and I had like 6 or 7 hits and 5 misses which those 5 where bass that jumped off. Idk how many Randy missed. It was finesse vs finesse; Culprit Finesse (me) vs ZOOM Finesse (Randy); texas rigged (me) vs wacky rigged (Randy). Anyway lol! It was a great time out and I put all but one (was belly up; dying) in my pond. I now have a total of 21 bass in the pond whoo hoo! 8-) Will put more!! Day was perfect! Overcast skies, but unfortunately there was some wind but thanks to my texas rigged style with the bullet weight, I was able to fish the high winds today. Will probably head back out later on this week (this weekend for sure! We have a tournament on Saturday at Motts Run here in Fredericksburg, Va). Hope everyone is taking advantage of this warm weather and getting out! There's no telling if the cold will hit us again (I doubt). God bless
  23. I raed taht wthiuot porlmbes! it is amzaing!
  24. Yeah I know who you're talking about... I MIGHT do some later this summer...I am sure dad would like to try it out... Mainly I will bass fish this summer, stock the pond. Jeremy fixed the computer for now which is why I am on...He needs to completely fix it though. John
  25. John J. replied to John J.'s topic in Fishing Reports
We've got plenty of fat head minnows that we stocked the pond with before we stocked fish. We have 20 pounds of fat head minnows and we will stock it with more this spring/summer. There is also an abundant source of food from frogs, crayfish and bugs and also we've been feeding them those small fish pellets. So no doubt these fish will live. Spawning time is comming and I hope that out of the 4 big bass that are in the pond, at least one of them is a female (that way she can spawn). We have 70 crappie in the pond and dad wants to add more. The way I see it, the crappie will spawn this spring (they are hand sized so they have nothing that will eat them besides birds) and repopulate. If today holds up (on warm weather) I am going to head out onto Orange Lake and fish. 8-) God bless and good luck stocking your parents pond Clayton!
