  1. I don't own this model of rod but do own a few premiers and enjoy them. I am assuming you want casting. PC70HF2 7' H Fast 2 12 - 25 1/2 - 1 1/2 5.4 4 $ 150
  2. Is this a modular based bait? One that the sections can be swapped out for another?
  3. Based on your story it’s clear the fish liked what he had, the why to this could be; Cadence, his retrieve could have been slower or faster, did he pop it, drag it on the bottom, you get the point and so did his fish, lol.. Sinking rate, mono sinks slower but braid typically floats, and with a shorter FC leader it may have made the action different and slower/faster fall rate. What size and or type weight was he using? Accuracy, was he on target, spooked less fish, quieter entrance into the water with his worm? That is all that comes to my mind but I am sure there are other factors as well. I typically fish alone..
  4. I am curious what is everyone’s personal best? The longest and heaviest fish I have ever caught was a sand tiger shark while surf fishing in Ocean City MD, roughly 4 feet long and about 40#. This was long time ago and only have a single photo of it, hopefully my parents still have the photo lol.. It drew quite the crowd, I released it in about 4 feet of water. Wasn't like a bass, just a heavy weight, there was another time when I had a 40 min fight with something in the bay, that was pulling our boat the locals tell me it was a sturgeon but I have no clue, line broke.
  5. Its a different experience, depending on how you light the night you can still see fairly well. I have fished in pitch black I still had fun and I didn't know what I had until the bass was in my hands, although it was a bass pond so I kinda knew hehe.. I have fly fished in the dark, under moon light and it was a blast, if you have not tried it I would say its worth at least a try, especially top water action, talk about fun.
  6. A fellow fisherman gave me this tip while back and been doing it since, no issues. Another pro angler that I have seen takes and strips 75 yards off and reties there and keeps doing this for a years. Another tip was reversing the lines, especially with braid. Since I try to use braid and FC leaders I don't go through my "main" line so much. In the river I fish my line gets torn up and leaders don't last long, so this has worked out well.
  7. I like using Mono to start and tie a modified albright and go with braid the rest of the way, with FC leaders as needed. I also have two setups that differ as one has 8#mono(topwater) and the other has 6#FC(finesse).
  8. LMB: All time would be spinnerbait, this year would be KVD 1.5 sexy shad. Smallmouth: All time would be a SpiderJig, this year hula grub.
  9. Guys on the susky are catching them on tubes, extremely slow jerkbaits and jigs. Check out this article and watch his videos on Youtube, I am sure it will help.
  10. That be awesome, you don't have many Venomous species in OK, especially ones that love water, copperheads mainly nocturnal during the hot nights, however western cottonmouths are nocturnal, just use a flash light and watch your step you will be fine.
  11. My first real eye opener to Bass fishing was with a Rapala original jerkbait, I didn’t even know what a jerk bait was at the time it just imated the minnows I used to catch with my net. I caught 16 bass that day in an hour, they were schooling in a beach area with sand and feeding on the minnows. It’s not my best gear or my favorite but it is the one that made me fall in love with fishing so many years ago. Next would be my Shimano reels, I just can’t find any better and I am left handed as well so that feed into it since not as many companies made left handed bait casters.
  12. There are many types of snakeheads that are feral, as I understand it the ones in Patomoc are a eastern species capable of withstanding the cold.
  13. I have found that St. Croix seems to be more east coast and Dobyns west coast, I mean that's a hard thing to split but I cant find Dobyns rods around here and every time I see them in the hands of anglers they are typically more to the west. I would love to try a Dobyns rod without the need to buy one first... I personally grew up on Ugly Sticks, St. Croix and G. Loomis, pre Shimano, now G. Loomis rods are out of my reach and cant beat a croix for the price.
  14. Yes I had a few older square bills made by Rapala. Yes it caught fish but not like the 1.5 and I agree there are tons on the market but the price point on the KVDs is good and the action out of the package to coin a phrase is erratic and fish love it. I am by no means making a scientific statement just simply what works for me as it could be simple confidence that I now have with this bait I didn’t have in the past I am not sure but I do know it works for me on every body of water I have used it in. Lures that KvD recommended not necessarily his brand which I think this square bill and a few spinner baits are KvD stamped and all I own. I just don’t look at pros, I use all my tools available and that includes walking up to a person and asking what they are catching them on. Right now I have my eye on a few lures from a small tackle maker and megastrike, I will see for myself as they are not being used around and will have to experiment with them. I want to add this is how I work around a problem in the market which is a flooding of product, it’s just too time consuming and expensive to try all brands and types of lures so yes I do really on Pros, internet, local tackle shops and my fellow fisherpeople..
  15. I listen, buy and try this is how I learn, sure I have purchased many lures on my own and I have also purchased many lures based on Pro recommendations. I probably have spent more money on lures KVD has recommended than any other because every time I try them they simply work for me. The last purchase was a KVD square bill 1.5 and it bagged 32 fish for me in late November, so I purchased many more. I don’t go out and buy a ton of product simply because however like I said I listen try then buy and that usually works for me. Some of these pros taunting crazy long worms and huge baits I just don’t buy into them, they simply don’t work for me and the fish I am able to target. I would say my biggest problem is that I am not brand specific when it comes lo lures so did I get that spinner bait from Strike King or, same with jigs hard to recall what OME I got them from. KVD, introduced me to spinnerbait fishing back in high school and man did that step up my fishing ability so I have faith in what he says and apply to what I know. That square bill, produced like no other on ponds, lakes its crazy people coming up to me asking what I am using.. These terminators lures a few pros are spouting off how good these things are so I got one, half price, can’t wait to try it this season.
  16. Around here we have ice covering the lakes and the rivers & Streams are flooded and I am not much help with what would work in FL as I have only fished there once. With that said if I was in FL I would be fishing, nothing wrong with SENKOS if that's what the fish want, but if you goal is to practice with other lures then do just that, what does it matter if you get skunked at least you can fish. Captn Shane was catching them on, crank-baits, spinnerbaits and senkos, you could give the other two a try. For your lures in the pictures I wouldn't be using frogs and or topwater unless I see activity on the surface and no lizards either, worms should work but that's an odd color around here. I would be trying spinnerbaits and crankbaits those two are very effective and versatile enough.
  17. I have family born and raised in Jersey and lets just say Ike and them are a loud bunch when something good happens, its so great to have an east coaster kick some butt, and while I don't like his loudness he is playing mind games and it works. Also looked like a chatter bait to me and at the end of the segment he explained what pattern he was using. Good show and I want more!!!
  18. I am talking about the Speed Spin, the spinning model. I was going to get the bait caster but after using the Speed Spin I lost confidence in there products and will stick with Shimano.
  19. my 3 year sold caught a 3.5# bass on a spiderman reel from gandr mnt, he ran with it lol..
  20. Ahh they have it posted on the main site, good video. - How To Choose Lure Colors http://www.bassresource.com/bass-fishing-videos/choose-lure-colors.html
  21. And yes I thought the Lews SS was not worth the price I paid, it was noisy, couldn't handle big smallies partly due to the lousy drag system. I would rather pay few more $$ and get a quality reel, I cant speak of the baitcasters, I know lots of people enjoy them here, however I am interested in there longevity, they seem cheap, but I have not tore one down and don't know what parts they use so I cant say.
  22. But how far could you send a 1/16 or 1/32 ounce lure? Not as far as I can with my spinning tackle, how I fish on my river you cant use a bait caster, sometimes being limited to by the bank just not enough room and the lures are very light. If you get into a situation where the bass want fineness you are limiting yourself in my opinion.
  23. I still own and use one of the original stradics that came out of japan and it still works like they day I got it. Purchased another Stradic FJ this year and love it even more, smoother, lighter and casts further then the older model. I use my stradic for shakeyhead action as well and it does a fine job, however I cant speak of the other reels.
  24. Thanks for sharing, do we know the breaking strength, officially? I love knot wars, tried many knots my self, it seems to me most of the winning knots had the line twice through the eye of the hook, much like the palomar knot does. This knot doesn't have that extra material so I am not sure what its breaking strength might be, however its easy enough to tie. Palomar is what I tie most simply because its easy, quick and works with all line types, I use improved clinch for mono mostly with cranks and sometimes the berkley braid for fun. I also love the rapala knot for my jerkbaits.
  25. It shouldn't make you feel that way, as its a tool and with any tool it has pros that make it better suited for a situation. Funny I first started off with a stick and string.
