  1. Rig the bobber so the Senko is just over submerged vegetation. Better if there is a slight ripple on the water.
  2. I'll go with the Lazy Ike, the Jelly worm and the Jitter bug. Another flat fish that was never very popular [no longer made] has always been a killer for me: the Flap Jack by Shakespear.

Does anybody know of a 4/0 straight shank wire hook?
  4. With ya, Bassman. As an oldster myself, I've long been heavy on Abu and have nothin bad to say about em.
  5. I was intrigued by the write-up on these Cabela Tournament ZX reels at $80 so I ordered one. Its a compact and light [just over 6 oz] reel. I compared it to a Skeet Reese[Abu] at $220, a Chronarch 50E at $200, a Lew's Tournament Pro at $200 and an Abu MGX at $350. I use it mainly for side-arm skipping a jig on a rather short [6'] rod but have done considerable casting with it. It is as smooth and casts as far as any of the more expensive reels considering rod length. Of course I can't report on longevity but will in a couple of years if it lasts.
  6. For my 2 I vote for the cockpit. I had mine at the bow but changed it because every time your trolling mtr turns your scan is shot.
  7. This is a known problem and can happen on some pretty good sized waters. As well as over populating the fish also learn not to get caught. I haven't fished there for years but at one time Lake Shasta had a 12" size limit. It was amazing how many 11 3/4" fish came out of that lake.
  8. Put me in the HB column. Better after sale support and I've got a garage full of Lowrance units that don't work.
  9. I've always used alcohol. Drys fast.
  10. Glad to hear from another Oregon boy. I'm moving to Byrdstown,Tn[Dale Hollow] shortly and will post when I get there. Been taking directions from this site.
  11. When I was a kid we bicycled down to the, in the NW its known as a crik, and caught 4" trout. If we got a 6 incher we thought it was a hawg.
  12. Something like 40 years ago, when I was associated with the business, I went thru the Champion spark plug factory. They ran various engines there until they just gave up, the purpose was to test the plugs. In the outboard department Johnson ran 2 to 3 times longer than any other engine. We know that Johnson, as such, is no longer extant and even if it was engineering changes in 40 years.
  13. I know this isn't a proper forum but don't really know where to turn. They both get pretty shabby treatment on ripoffreports.com but does anybody know if one's better than the other?
  14. Flipping. I'm a proficient pitcher but have never been comfortable flipping. I'll go with Dink, too. I can't buy just one thing. I have to have several back-ups.
  15. Some pretty informative posts. Thanks everybody.
  16. Don't believe 'em when they tell you you have to use small baits...
  17. Far from my pb but got a 4-14 smallie this year which was pb smallie.
  18. What are you talkin about? My bass boat is nuclear powered, has radar, depth charges and guided missiles.
  19. I note that many trophy fish come from the St Johns. It's a rather large river for a stranger. What would be a good stretch of the river for that stranger to fish? Or would someplace else be better?
  20. My Boga crapped out at just about a year(second one). So far the Rap is fine but have had it less than a year.
  21. I think several states could produce a world record and water size doesn't have a lot to do with it.
  22. I'm the lucky retired guy that gets to move from Oregon to Dale Hollow just for better sm fishing. I've never used a chip in my electronics because none of the W lakes I fished were on the chips. There are so many choices I don't know what I should chose. I have both Lowrance and HB but am mainly concerned with HB 798 SI. Any suggestions?
  23. Priceless, but I guess I'm one that tends to laugh when he shouldn't.
