  1. Welcome. Don't know if you know it or not but Hagg has produced the last several state record SM. Not a fun bass lake because it has not a stitch of cover other than a rip-rap dam. I'd bet those state record smallies were taken while trolling for trout.
  2. Shortfish--Not only can someone else catch it but more importantly you've put the genes back in the water.
  3. Super.
  4. The Mitchell 300 series was the reel to own in its day. Still got 1 or 2.
  5. X2, backwater. Same colors night and day.
  6. You're a good story teller. Let's hear more.
  7. That's an eye-popper.
  8. Love your attitude.
  9. There is no doubt that most switch. There is no doubt that you're ahead if you don't. Put your mind to it and you can learn.
  10. That was a class reel in its day. Nothin wrong with it today.
  11. Some of that's priceless.
  12. I had a jet on a Tracker. It was great for river SM, steelhead, salmon.........Sucked up everything in sight on the lake. Also a considerable power loss compared to a prop.
  13. Grigsby is tying the San Diego Jam. The secret is instead of wrapping 4 or 5 times around the standing part, wrap only twice. The second secret is to double tie instead of single. The third secret is if it isn't pretty--do it again. The forth secret is for bank fisherman: don't use this knot. It is stronger than line test and you're likely to leave lots of line in the water if you get hung up.
  14. I use a a number of different hooks for different situations but my go-to hook is a BPS 4/0 off-set shank.
  15. Didn't know anybody ate those things.
  16. I'm with steelslinger. I'd stick with a good 10# mono on any spin-cast.
  17. When I was younger and hardier I was on the water waiting for first light. Now that I'm considerably older and lasier the day is well advanced before I get out there. Did I catch more fish then than now? Yeah.
  18. Glad to hear from you. I live in the Medford area.
  19. RLinNH, I use an egg sinker for Carolina and a bullitt weight for Mojo.
  20. I recall reading an artical some time ago (can't remember where) about bass reaction to plastic baits. I believe underwater filming was involved. The gist was that bass are more likely to hit a floating bait than a bait dragged on the bottom. I decided to give it a try. Results follow: I first bought BPS salt impregnated 6" floating worms. I wanted as small a hook as possible so as not to weight the worm. The only offset shank wire hook I could find was an Eagle Claw. 2/0 worked well because the worms are relatively narrow. To present I could think only of Carolina or Mojo and I used Mojo setting the weight about a foot above the hook. Now I didn't run any double-blind tests but I've been chasing these critters about 50 years and I believe I catch more fish this way than with a T-rig. It may be relevent that I fish mostly in the West and vegetation is nearly nonexistant. One other thing: color. As you go through this forum you will find many opinions on the best color. My opinion is that color is not of prime importance. The best color is the color that gives you confidence. If you think it will work, it will work. I'm from the old school. My go-to colors are white and grape.
  21. I'm not a God fearin' man but all creatures have a place.
  22. Good observation, webertime. They can't be stopped.
