  1. Yep...part of fishing. If the hook is sticking out enough.....I will take the diagonal cutters I have and cut the barb off....to make hook removal easier for the fish. That's just me.
  2. Looking forward to another new lake to fish with old and new friends! These trips are great! The whole trip. Eating breakfast with friends.....if you want to. Fish all day with an old friend or a new friend. Eat supper with friends. Then sit around and chew the fat with folks. Sleep good....wake up and do it again. Just a dang blast! If you have the chance.....you really should try to make it......you will be so happy that you did!
  3. In addition to the 'Big' event.......we gather together each night and shoot the bull. Last year we ate dinner together....sometimes breakfast together....even ate lunch together a couple of times. It is informal and a great time! We just play it by ear a lot.......it's great! I can't tell you how great it really is......I may very well enjoy this more than the fishing! Don't get me wrong....the fishing is great too. But we forge new friendships and reinforce existing friendships with these conversational get togethers. We talk about the days fishing. We talk about this and that. We laugh and joke......it's like you have been friends all your life. The whole trip will be great!
  4. Made my reservations for the Kentucky Lake trip. Now looking into the Jack Yates Classic @ Toledo Bend!
  5. Here is some information on PFDs. Please note there may be differences between inflatables and solid type of the same class. Coast Guard Approval Ratings: Type I - Provides the most buoyancy. It is effective for all waters, especially open, rough or remote waters where rescue may be delayed. It is designed to turn most unconscious wearers in the water to a face-up position. Type II - Intended for calm, inland water or where there is a good chance of quick rescue. Inherent buoyant PFDs of this type will turn some unconscious wearers to a face-up position in the water, but the turning is not as pronounced as a Type I. This type of inflatable turns as well as a Type I foam PFD. Type III - Good for conscious users in calm, inland water, or where there is a good chance of quick rescue. It is designed so wearers can place themselves in a face-up position in the water. The wearer may have to tilt their head back to avoid turning face-down in the water. The Type III foam vest has the same minimum buoyancy as a Type II PFD. It comes in many styles, colors, and sizes and is generally the most comfortable type for continuous wear. Float coats, fishing vests, and vests designed with features suitable for various sports activities are examples of this type PFD. This type inflatable turns as well as a Type II foam PFD. Type IV - Intended for calm, inland water with heavy boat traffic, where help is always present. It is designed to be thrown to a person in the water and grasped and held by the user until rescued — It is not designed to be worn. Type IV devices include buoyant cushions, ring buoys, and horseshoe buoys. There are no inflatable Type IV devices. Type V - Intended for specific activities and may be carried instead of another PFD only if used according to the approval condition(s) on its label. A Type V PFD provides performance of either a Type I, II, or III PFD (as marked on its label). If the label says the PFD is "approved only when worn" the PFD must be worn, except for persons in enclosed spaces and used in accordance with the approval label, to meet carriage requirements. Some Type V devices provide significant hypothermia protection. Varieties include deck suits, work vests, and board sailing vests. Type III/V - Multi-Purpose Commercial Vests.
  6. Way2slow pretty much covered it. When I was researching inflatables.....Mustang is the only manufacturer that stated their device would 'right' the wearer. That is important to me.
  7. Sorry to hear that pal. I have not used th VA for dental work. Most other things there is always a wait. But for emergency care they should be doing something for you. I received a card from th VA for outside care. Something called Veterans Choice Program. 1-866-606-8198 Http://www.Va.gov/ops/choiceact I know it won't help now and not sure of the scope....but might help in the future. I would go to the VA ER if there was one close. Hang in there buddy.
  8. Buy the best you can afford. And then wear it. Then save up and buy a better one.
  9. I, too, use a lock for my hitch. A lock on my trailer to truck. Glad you saw it before you took off!
  10. I switch out the lights to LED on any trailer I have. In my experience.....the LED lights are brighter.....more defined. That is what I want in the dark
  11. x2 Credit union was just a call to tell them what I boat I wanted and how much. They emailed me a link to sign the paperwork. Stopped by on the way home to pickup the check....Very easy process. TOO DANG EASY!
  12. X2 My trailer dolly did not have 3 wheels...only 2 wheels and a leg/stand where the little wheel is. Got it at Harbor Freight I think. Worked very well on flat terrain....I was moving a 18' fiberglass boat and have a steep driveway.....your boat is alot lighter than the one I had....you should have no problems at all.....but still be mindful of any sloping areas.
  13. I drilled and tapped a hole on both sides. Then put in 2 bolts (1/2"). Tighten them up and it stops the slop noise in the receiver. Used longer bolts so that my hitch lock would work.
  14. I'm good with the name change.....I never met the man, but have read many a post by the man.
  15. Two times the fun! I'm all in! C'mon.......y'all.......lets fish.
  16. The last time the Classic was here.....we all met for dinner. We should do that a minimum......in addition to the two road trips.
  17. Ooo ya! Sounds great! I'm down for both. Man o man.....I love these bass resource road trips! Now, two bass resource road trips? Somebody pinch me. The Baked Potato Classic was a blast last year and the 2 previous road trips were fantastic too! This is very exciting.
  18. Yep.....me too Bert. Should be on everyone's bucket list.
  19. Depends on what you wanna do with it. I wanted mine mounted.....so I got a ram mount and gopro adapter. I did not want to bother with batteries.....so I bought a cam-do battery eliminator and installed it....camera runs off my starter battery. Runs cooler that connecting to a charger. Ru Let the camera run from launch to trailer on 5 minute loop. When something happens I push the shutter button and it saves the last 5 minutes. Press it again and it starts the loop again. Not really any gopro accessories I want/need. Like I said....depends on how you want to use it.
  20. Keep mine bolted in starboard rear storage compartment. But I do like Tom's idea of the rod locker on the reinforcement bar.
  21. Congrats. I love my Lowrance hdi units. Can't help you with the how it handles. You don't mention your experience level.......so I'll just throw in a couple of things. PFD's.....wear them. Boater safety class if needed. Have some signaling devices (flares, whistle, ect) Anchor for emergencies if nothing else. Practice/get to know your new boat on a calm day or protected cove......up the challenge a little at a time. Research all you can here on the forum and the Internet. My biggest scare involved rough water (rough is a relative term).....waves were 2-3'.......never again for me.....I watch the weather and current conditions closely. Do not let anyone talk you into doing anything you're not 100% comfortable with doing. Again ....congratulations and enjoy!
  22. Thermostat? Does it start flowing water as soon as you put it in or does it take a little bit? Has it ever spewed water with the ears? I turn the water up all the way when I use the ears.
  23. I find that marine silicone works very well as an adhesive. Just a little here and a little there works very well.
  24. Can you still see the feedback on the people that have left feedback for the seller? As long as they don't all have just a few themselves it would probably be ok. But if you are looking for something that one of the BassResource sponsors carry....buy from them....you know you're safe with them!
