Anyone use tire chains to pull boat out of the water when ramp is iced up,? Been drizzling here and the boat ramp is iced up pretty good. Wondering if tire chains are good enough to allow backing down and then pulling the boat out? And I mean 'really good enough.....I don't want to have an issue.

Thanks everyone.....I should have said 'swell' as that is what I was referring to. I always thought that it was height and from bottom of trough to top of swell....and that fishermen were exaggerating to a good degree. I saw the image that AJay posted above a few weeks ago and between then and now.....something triggered my pea brain to 'wonder' ....so I thought I would ask. Thanks again

When fisherman speak of 2 ft or 3ft waves and navigating them..........are they referring to wave height or the distance between the waves?

I would be fishing 3 out of the boat....1 on back and 2 up front. Not all of the time...but regularly. Thanks for the responses.

My truck weighs in at a little more than 4600 lbs. The boat, trailer, gear and fuel weigh just under 4000 lbs. Trailer has surge brakes. I was just wondering if anyone was pulling this size boat and what their experience was. I got to checking last night and the weight is only about 500 lb heavier than the old Procraft 185 Pro DC I used to pull way back when with a 2011 frontier. So I think I will be ok, especially with the trailer having surge brakes that I did not have on the Procraft trailer. Thank you for you for your input and information. Chris

Is anyone here towing a 21' bass boat (4200LBS and surge brakes) with a midsize truck like a nissan frontier? If so, how does it handle on long inclines on the highway (1 mile)? Any regrets using this to tow a 21' boat?

I have never fished from a kayak and have only been on one once before. We just picked up 3 Vibe Sea Ghosts for my wife, son and I. Have not been able to get them out on the water yet......hopefully I will this weekend and I will get back to this thread with the pros and cons.

We bought some of those disposable hand warmers and used those Tennis style wrist sweatbands to hold them in place....1 on top and one on the bottom....very toasty.

I did this on my first boat.....and will do it on my current boat this winter or next. Cool to see you have done it.....I look forward to the rest of the story.

I found out today that Regular car batteries are illegal in a boat. Had to take my starting battery (everstart from walmart) back to walmart today for a warranty replacement. It has not started 3 times in the lake now. First time was last February, 2nd time was Big Bass World Championship 2 Saturdays ago and last time was yesterday . They tested and said that they would need to charge it and retest. Took about 30-45 minutes while we grocery shopped. They call me to say that the battery tested good and I was ready to go. I told them that it had stranded me 3 times so I would need to speak to a manager. Since it was Sunday.....I get to see assistant manager who tells me if it resets good they don't exchange. I tell him I need somebody's number to call to come jump me next Saturday when it doesn't start. He apologized and said he could call the manager that was off at home todasy......I said that I'm fine with that. They neither seemed to understand th at U have deep cycle and starting batteries in the boat. First tried to tell me that the starting battery needs constant charge o n them. I Tell Him Has Onboard Charger For When Its Home. And Motor Has Alternator To Charge While Running. Then He Tells Me I Am Breaking The Law Using A Regular battery in a boat. I told him I've Never Heard Of That But Would Take It Under Advisement ? Then They Swapped Out The Battery For Me ?

For the second time this year my 2009 Optimax 225 DFI wouldn't start this morning (29 degrees). Drew the battery way down trying to start it. Pulled the boat out and plugged in the charger......charged it until charger indicated full charge. Backed down the ramp.....and vroom it started right up. (45-50 degrees). The first time it did it (February) it was about 39 degrees.....Drew battery down trying to start it....drove it home and charged it....vroom It Started Right Up....(45 Degrees). Any Ideas Why This Happens? Thanksa Chris

I recently changed my RAM mount solution leaving my electronic lock solution lacking. I only needed one lock with the old solution but my new solution needed two. Problem was that durasafe locks did not have the available sized lock. Or so I thought. I reached out to their customer support and Bob said while they didn't have a product on The shelf......he could fix me up. He provided me the part number and directions for Ordering. I placed the order and he followed up to ensure I received the right item. Now my electronics are fully secured again. And they are all keyed alike!

I agree with you. i would not be replacing this unit either if not for the damage. But since I am replacing it.....trying to determine if I should replace with lower priced gen 2 or a newer gen 3. i could buy 2 HDS 9 touch Gen2 2 for $1999.99 from Cabelas (and have 2 under warranty) and sell my other good HDS 9 touch Gen2 or buy a gen3 for $1229.99 to go with my good gen2.

Have to replace my bow mounted HDS 9 touch gen 2 due to damage to the unit. Should I replace with another gen 2 or a newer gen 3? Gen 2 considerably less $$$$. Pros/cons?

Sorry.....but I say wear or don't wear what you want. Helmet, seat belt or PFD. But if you don't ......don't whine about the outcome. My wife, son and I wear one 100% of the time on the water. Guess the population needs to be culled somehow......self culling works for me.
