  1. I use a standard size fork tail fluke and and cut it to whatever length I need.
  2. The original floating Rapala was how the jerkbait was invented here on Table rock . Some guys figured out how drill them out and fill the holes with shot. Of course they were made out of balsa sometimes they wrapped the hook shanks with solder to get them to suspend. Of course they were made of balsa which is why they were called stickbaits and we still call any kind of jerkbait a stickbait around here. There was a real art to making them dive and suspend in fact you could actually rent them at a couple of the marinas on Table rock.
  3. 49 bucks isn’t worth it ? It’s a deal with today’s shipping costs . Hell , some will charge you 14 bucks to ship a spool of line or a hat
  4. Exactly. that's why I said to call the shop about the price of the GLX. I would never question anyone with 6 years of experience.
  5. Forgot to ask, who’s offering you a new NRX for 20 to 30% off? Remember when the tackle trap was selling supposed Loomis rep samples at a steep discount? Notice they're no longer a Loomis dealer?
  6. Ehh, That rod looks new, If your interested in it it would be worth a call to see what Brian might do for you.
  7. The RL is doing great. I find the prices on used gear fair. let's face it , they are taking the risk . They are starting over and all accounts that ALF had don’t exist anymore so they are opening new ones as they go. Give them some time Also , can you can you point out a used rod that they are asking 90% of retail for ?
  8. Back in the days before the Keitech showed up we used to swim a single tail grub on a 1/4 oz ball head a bunch. Also just pull it across the bottom in a technique we call scrubbin' in the Ozarks. The easy shiner pretty much took over but as usual they don't stop biting it as much as we stop throwing it.
  9. I have the 5 inch model and it seems to work fine. I have more minner baits than I need and personally I question how much difference there is between the sakamata and the 50 others out there.
  10. What type of buzz bait are you throwing ? If your throwing a lighter one with a skirt they can be tough into the wind. If you haven't tried the Crock-o gator or Brazalo that use a toad you'll find them much easier to cast and they plane better. Or you can put a toad on the bait you have.
  11. I too like the leader knot on the reel when the fish at the side of the boat so around 15 feet of 6lb flouro to start. I use a surgeons knot.
  12. I bought 1 each of the world class, elite and HMG. I thought they were solid rods. I imagine the association with pure fishing hurt them.
  13. Without question I would. A couple years ago I caught the biggest mean mouth I’ve ever seen. I texted a picture of it to my buddy who is a guide and he said don’t let it go until you weigh it. too late I’d already released it but a quick Google search told me it was at least a pound short by my estimation.
  14. On a baitcaster I just lock it down. lf I get a good one right at the boat that's pulling hard straight down I'll back it off some . Breaking off fish used to be a thing back in the day but with today's line it's just not something that concerns me. On a spinning rod , with 6 lb. leader I just set it by feel and adjust from there.
  15. When it comes to stick bait fishing it's the Indian much more than the arrow but that's never stopped me from trying new ones either. Here in the Ozarks the stick bait is a religion and as I've said the Falcon weightless worm rod is fantastic and to me. it's much better than the rod they actually label as the jerkbait rod. Virtus has one labeled stick bait rod that's really good also . I usually pick up a few Kistlers during the Holiday sales and this year I ordered a klx 6ft9 LMH. It's got the right action and handle length.
  16. I fish the flat side and wiggle wart parallel to the bank with the boat parallel also. With the jerkbait ,I fish it more on a 45. 90% of my stick bait fishing is on the vision 110 or one of its derivatives like the Jr. and +1 along with a silent version . I will also use the Spro Mcstick and a old Rogue in table rock shad .
  17. Not really. I've been using Shimano for 30+ years they have always had a model that meets my requirements which is to cast and retrieve the bait and handle a Bass. I suppose I've been in the game too long to get giddy about every new release.
  18. 10 or 12 across all crankbaits
  19. I've gone to a shorter and stouter rod than I did back in the day. I use a 7ft heavy KLX . As to buzzbaits , The Brazalo bushwacker that's made down in Arkansas is really good and that's coming from a guy who says a buzz bait is a buzz bait, I personally like the OG head but he has other options.
  20. Me personally no. Not that it couldn't work and with FFS you could put it right over the top of them but I'll throw the A rig first in our water temps.
