  1. I have never liked Spiderwire products. I think there braid is subpar compared to Sufix and Power Pro as well. I got some Invisi-Braid and it was absolute garbage. I have never reconsidered using their lines again. Since that time they have introduced a few new lines but still, I need to see some amazing reviews to even consider them.
  2. Nice BIG OL' PIG! Ohhhhhhhhh my gaaaaaaaaaaaaawd. -Shaw G.
  3. Sore vs Soar My back is sore. I have a cold sore. Herpes can create a sore. (no, not from personal experience...i'm clean ) That Eagle can soar. Gas prices will continue to soar.
  4. Do you ever throw any bucktails? I like the Mepps Musky Killers or Double Cowgirls (the smaller ones). Black/orange or black/silver/blue. I've caught a majority of my musky from bucktails alone. Seeing musky follows is a rush, I still remember my first time. I'll never forget that moment.
  5. No where does it say you need a leader to fish braid. I fish straight braid on 95% of my applications and catch fish, topwater included. I fish fluoro with my crankbaits. All you need to know is how to tie a palomar knot for braid, San Diego Jam for fluoro. The only time I'd really break down and worry about leader is fishing a c-rig or drop shot, and I hardly ever fish either technique. I have no experience with Yo Zuri so I can't speak for it. Braid I like Sufix 832 or the Performance Braid. You will get 1000 opinions regarding what I just said, so take it for what it's worth. Just helping a brother out.
  6. Try out some braid or fluoro if you haven't yet. Just use some mono backing and a spool of either will carry you for quite some time. I think you will like one of those lines better judging from some of the other posts I've read of yours. Just my 2cents brotha. You'll eliminate some of those break offs in the river too.
  7. You lose a lure. You lose a game. You lose your keys. Your belt is loose. The dog is loose. The screws in your brain are loose. Come on folks, join in. Make basic English fun again. Who else has a set of words? Think you get the idea....
  8. The website alone features 100's of articles many being technique specific. Start reading them, they are very informative and will get you a great start to your fishing. Rod tip high....to feel the bite. Jerking motion?......depends on what kind of plastic but more than likely no. Do some research here. There is millions of threads and articles to pick your brain with for days.
  9. We didn't know he had a blind up and I never said anything about him being in creek. We were in the middle of the lake with shore line in 100yds or further in every direction. I mean, dead nuts in the middle. You could launch a hot air balloon from our location. This was the first time ever of us seeing hunters on the lake. We've owned a home there for 22 years. It was light enough in the morning that you could see clear across the lake. I assure you, there was not a single bird flying through the air especially above our head. Pellets landed 20 feet from our boat... Had I seen his blind, or known he was going to be shooting toward the middle of the lake, I'd never gone there. I have enough respect for hunters to not cross the path if they were clearly there first. Point I was making, is that he should have at least made his presence known. Even if he whistled. The sound carries there unbelievably far. One side of the lake is homes, the other forest. He was shooting off his shoreline that he made a blind in really dense reeds. I'd like to think that the majority of you guys would want other people to know your location so that no one else is firing in your direction.
  10. Beauty man! Congrats. Do you fish Musky often or just when they hit your bass stuff? I love musky fishing but once you go to Canada and musky fish...no where else is quite the same. I picked off my first IL musky in the Fox River back in May this year. Caught on a 1/2 oz Red Eye Shad, Orange Craw color.
  11. 1. 1/2 oz Green Pumpkin swim jig with Rage Craw trailer 2. Squarebill crankbait (sexy shad or perch) 3. Wacky style worms. (watermelon red flake)
  12. I agree. Especially on constant moving sub surface lure....they're going to see mostly belly anyway. If you want to paint it just for grins, post how you do. If you're painting to catch more fish, I wouldn't bother. The action is going to catch the fish before its pretty paint job.
  13. I have a Powerdrive V2 , 70lb thrust. I have mine mounted to the bottom of the trolling motor and I hate it. The cables are a pain in the butt. Once I buy a new electronic I'm running my front unit to the back as well to save grief. I wouldn't recommend it unless you fish open water all the time and never venture into weeds/lily pads.
  14. One other note on this topic, if you have your baitcaster set up properly, you don't need to send your bait into orbit to get a good distance cast. If everything is working as intended a nice steady swing cast from the side of your body will get your lure out to where you need it. Often I fish with friends that don't fish nearly as much as I do, and they try to send 3/4 oz spinnerbaits or alike lures a mile across the lake. Just about every trip they lose a lure from snapping their lines from casting like a moron. If you get a birds nest with braid....pull it all out......and then pull out another 10 yds and reel it back up with your fingers supplying some tension so it's nice a smooth going back in. That will help prevent the digging in some too. Not saying you aren't set up properly, just something to remember as a lot of people don't think about it.
  15. Big fan of their regular frogs as well. I also like the SK KVD Sexy frogs. Caught lots of bass with both brands.
  16. with braid? I have had much different experience then.
  17. No. I think your knots are mixed up. Clinch or improved clinch will slip. Palomar not will never fail with braid if tied correctly.
  18. Palomar knot with braid on all applications. 65lb is fine. You could drop to 20 to 40 and still be fine.
  19. Accuracy is more important than distance when pitching and flipping in my eyes. Most of the time im pitching a distance of 20ft or less. It's all about hitting the spot. I use braid on my pitching and flipping stick. If I fished more wood and stumps id consider a heavy fluro. Im pitching matted vegetation and holes more often. Docks as well.
  20. Live Target crankbait or SK swim jig in bluegill. Anything with Bluegill colors can be used to imitate a real one. Lots of options.
  21. Im picking up a 200E5. Got my cranking rod waiting!
  22. Bass Pro Shops and Cabelas happened. More money, better advertising, more customers. I think Gander is slowly being squashed in the competition. Gander doesn't touch BPS fishing selections and it doesn't touch Cabelas hunting options, based off my visits between the three.
  23. Yea those are some nice deals. If I only had some extra change.....
  24. I'm with you. I hate this state. If my entire family, friends weren't here I'd be gone without question. The only thing I like about IL is the city of Chicago (downtown) and its history. The rest of this stink hole can rot.
