  1. I want a lift kit, new tires and rims and fenders for my Jeep but since that is a little out of my budget right now so who knows. I do know i have tickets to go to the eagles redskins game hime up in philly visiting my family. Me and all my brother and dad and my non eagles fan brother in law will all be going...
  2. whenever that happens to me i take it as a signal to slow down. usually i am not paying attention like i should be and my presentation subsequently slows down.
  3. You don't need hooks to catch gar at all. That nylon rope frayed out a little bit and let them chew on it. they will get it tangled in their teeth and then you just cut it free when you get them to the boat.
  4. eliminating management is also the easiest way to cut costs when things get tight. you always have to have workers doing the work
  5. Congrats, it's a great way to fish. It allows you to get to places other boats can't and not have to deal with all the registration and the like that powered boats have to go through. Another thing you will learn is that everybody has their own preferences on gear. One such example is the recommendation for shorter rods in a kayak. I prefer at least 7' rods as it allows me to work fish around the bow of the boat when needed and gives a little better leverage on the hookset. Have fun with it and before long you won't even think about the stability of your boat as you will become one with the boat in a way......at least that is what has happened with me and my last 3 boats i purchased lol
  6. yeah this was my first time out in three weekends so it felt good to get out there. I did mark some interesting structure on the sidescan that i am not quite sure what it was but now i know where it is and can go back and check it out. I am planning on using this winter to do some recon type trips and mark potential staging areas for the spring time spawn
  7. i don't get it but it worked for me so i am gonna keep trying it lol I might get out with the fly rod later today after my son's football but we will see.
  8. I was finally able to get out yesterday for a little while. I went to one of my favorite lakes on a nearby military base that is usually not crowded and can produce some decent fish. Water temps and air temps were both in the high 50's and it was pretty cloudy. I caught a few on a fluke deadsticked near some lilly pads that hadn't died off yet. As i made my way to the back of the pond the water got shallower, about 2-3' but the water temps stayed the same. I began seeing some commotion on the top which i figured were pickerel as there are a lot in the lake. I grabbed my rod with the PopX i received in last year's Fishmas exchange and went to work. I ended up catching 4 small bass and one giant pickerel that bit through my line right at the kayak with the PopX still in his mouth....the fish still were busting around me but nothing else i had was getting bit. Either way, it was kind of cool to have a decent day with a topwater bite in sub 60 degree water.
  9. dry suits are where it's at....i don't fish in the cold enough to warrant one but i know many who do and they are pretty much set for any temperature water they would face.
  10. If you really felt bad i don't think you would fish at all. i mean those sharp hooks and all and hurting their mouths...
  11. mark all those spots....i am planning on going out there with my GPS on my fish finder and mark a bunch of spots so when the water does rise, i'll know where to go. The nice thing about the lower water is they have less places to go now...that is a big lake and pretty consistent depth wise too I may actually get out there this weekend, i don't think i have ever fished there in colder weather.
  12. In Virginia, for elementary that doesn't cut it as you have to complete and approved teacher education program. secondary you can get by if you graduated with a degree in one of the subject areas and have 5 years experience in the field. I know each state varies though. the key for teaching is to get those first 5 years in and then yo can pretty much transfer licensure to pretty much any state.
  13. welcome aboard. you will catch fish if you hang around here long enough and read. lots of good information that is readily shared.
  14. I looked at the yak-gear ones but the big selling point for me on the yak attack one is the locking lever for the line and the clips that hold the line tight against the boat and then the one end tucks under when not in use...win win for me.
  15. i almost prefer winter fishing myself. No people on the water and if you can find them, the big girls are almost always willing to play
  16. I catch about 6 a year from there depending on how often i fish. Near the second the bridge to the right i always seem to catch them there. I had one crush a topwater a year ago.
  17. i did go back to school. i also majored in elementary ed for a semester or two but then changed to liberal arts. depending on your state and the need, you can sometimes do alternative licensure where basically a school sponsors you and you have to take some classes within the next 3 years or so while teaching and you can get certified. I chose to go get my masters which was also included certification aka i had to student teach. the program took me about 18 months. i could have gotten just my certification in probably half the time but after doing the math, it made sense to get my masters. the difference in salary would pay for itself in less than 10 years. oh and i teach in a title 1 school that services 4 housing projects and less than privileged is an understatement. it takes a unique person to do it i think but there are tons of different school types out there to choose from. If you are a male, which i am assuming you are, you have am much better chance of getting a job too as they are sought after in the elementary education field.
  18. was a process engineer for almost 10 years after taking about 12 years to get my bachelors degree....and now am a 4th grade teacher...wouldn't trade it for anything and i wish i did it sooner.
  19. Packers are real good
  20. nah, we won 2 in a row so its all good....
  21. tears from all the crying about stupid stuff
  22. cause bottom line is he is clutch...peyton isn't
  23. If i catch a state record i will do what it takes to get it certified and i also don't care if people know where i caught it.
  24. Eagles should have 50 points scored already tonight....Gruden is a clown....
  25. Diascund has some real monster bowfin in there. Did the one you caught have a tag on it? i caught one there with a tag last year and sent it to DGIF. they gave me all the info about when it was tagged and length. It was cool to see the growth and that it was caught less than 100 yards from where it was tagged. I have seen some monster bowfin in there too. A lot of times when you see baitfish busting like that i have seen gar in the vicinity.
