  1. buzz frogs will give a similar affect and no snags.
  2. A quality rack will give you peace of mind on the set up and ability to hold your expensive gear safely. Racks are one area I don't skimp and yakima and both thule are great choices. I have also heard good things about the malone rack systems as well but i have never personally used them.
  3. you are also limiting yourself to just one area to fish. I am not sure where you live but I am sure there are other lakes to fish that will present different conditions that may dictate different presentations. I thought about doing something similar but i couldn't do it. I instead just limit the rods i take with me based on what i think i will encounter on a given trip.
  4. I prefer the super slick and didn't notice any difference in abrasion resistance from the standard braid. It is quieter though. the one disadvantage to braid is that it is not the most abrasion resistant line choice and most combat that with the use of a leader.
  5. I made the switch over to tungsten this season when Bass Pro was having heir sale on their house brand during the spring sale. I bought quite a few packs of different sizes . Sure they are more expensive but my results have been better this year than previous. I also haven't lost any yet so the added cost isn't an issue to me if it performs better.
  6. The technique mentioned above works like a charm. I actually forgot my needle nose pliers this past weekend and had to do this all with y hands but luckily the fish were large enough that I could reach in the mouth. What is funny is that i rarely have had to use it in the past but for some reason they were engulfing the baits on saturday and i had to do it at least 4 times.
  7. It is definitely ya popular thing in the saltwater crowd. I would wonder how effective it would be chasing bass though since moving around an area it might be a little noisy.
  8. we can figure out all out, we still have some time
  9. you mean a suicide pool where you pick a team to win each week and can't pick them again all season?
  10. i would say if it is this much of an issue i would look for another company to give your business to or call them.
  11. jumping creates slack and is when they will throw the hook 95% of the time. Let them fight a little longer and tire a little more and land them without letting them jump and you will reduce lost fish for sure.
  12. i am not sure on the size of cranking battery but i do know that a 12AH battery that i have for my helix 5 SI will also two full day outings pretty much. My point is i doubt that they will pull enough to worry about the draw on your cranking battery.
  13. Well if we don't get enough players, why don't we do a pick's league instead, same money and same payouts but you just pick winners and losers each week and your lowest week gets dropped from your total score.
  14. i'll keep my st croix MXF rage with a shimano stradic CI4 and Ducket micro magic MHF paired up with my citica
  15. got a few calls from the schools here in the city and an interview next week. It is probably one of the roughest schools in the area so it could be interesting. I am just looking forward to summer school being over next week.
  16. i thought i saw somewhere that the motor kit is going to be in the 1500-1700 range so i would guess the whole shebang would be 3k+
  17. is this a different lake than you have been fishing and if not then why not just paddle over there?
  18. i prefer the zara spook as well but i have also become a fan of the megabass pop max which walks very well and also pops. It has been my go to topwater bait this year so far. I also like the rapala skitter walk. they all seem to work at different times and i will frequently change them all out just to see if they make difference. the skitter walk has a distinct noise that the others don't have.
  19. i use 8 or 10lb diameter braid on my bait casters and haven't had issues as of yet. if what you are using works, then I wouldn't bother changing.
  20. I think you have already found out through this thread that everybody uses the best braid and everyone has their own opinion. I have used PP, PP super slick, Suffix 832 and recently some seaguar and found them all to be good lines. find one of the major well known brands and give it a whirl and see if ti you like it. if you do, then you can always try out something different later on.
  21. J Francho hit it right on the head. The key to kayak fishing is to maximize the space you have and set it up to be usable for your fishing style. it is one of the reasons you always hear people say to not rig anything on the boat until you fish from it a few times. I have had my ATAK out about a dozen times and I am just now starting to figure out exactly where I want everything.
  22. I rarely if ever use a leader and when i do it is because of toothy critters. Also, i saw it mentioned above to use 2' leader as a shock absorber and i will say that a leader that short is not going to provide any noticeable shock absorption properties.
  23. Well, this is one of the best places for that for sure welcome to the forum
  24. i own a few lamsons and they are all top notch. I would keep an eye at sierratrading post.com as they often have lamson on sale. I also picked up a sage reel, a basic one and it does surprisingly well. I rarely use the reel for anything but line storage so it is more about getting the reel that balances my outfit the best. I do like a nice fly reel though
  25. what did you do, sign up here with that name just to make this post? lol
