  1. One thing i have noticed on teh super fluke is that depending on the color a different type of plastic is used. Seems like the more solid colors are more "rubbery" and don't have the same action as the ones with fleck in them. This is part of the reason i prefer the watermelon candy, mardi gras and mocassin blue colors.
  2. I am not a fan of the moderate action rods for square bills myself. it works but i have been using a 6'8" MHF rod and that seems to do a really good job.
  3. It is not as much of a type of retrieve as it is an area to throw them. They work very well in woody areas and rarely get hung up. The design of the bait with a square bill basically rocks the bait straight up and over any cover where a rounded bill tends to slip off to the side and get hung more frequently. I just started throwing them last year and it is definitely a fun way to fish and can produce. Don't be scared to throw it into some pretty thick woody cover and hold on tight because when they hit is usually is pretty hard.
  4. I use a kayak myself but these look pretty cool too. http://freedomelectricmarine.com/store/category/products/boats/twin-troller-x10/
  5. I like the super fluke myself but i find myself throwing a stick bait rigged texas style and weedless more often these days but when i need something to come through cover more easily i always go back to the mocassin blue super fluke...
  6. I am hoping to find a few this weekend myself....i know of a nice 26" fish that i caught last year that i really hope is in the same spot
  7. I haven't measured per se but I have measured out the number of cranks to reel in a lure on my citica 6.5:1 and was over 50 revolutions of the handle so that puts the cast at approximately 35 yards or so. I wasn't really trying to whip it out there I was just trying to get an idea. When I go out this weekend I will be sure to really chuck one and see what happens.
  8. I don't like fishing out of another person's boat at all but that may be because most if not all mof my fishing buddies fish out of kayaks and we all have our boats rigged how we wnat them. I will say that after fishing out of my dad's jet boat this weekend it is so different fishing out of a boat rather than a kayak. To much space
  9. I agree. Total class act. I am not one to buy a player jersey because I root for teams but I may make an exception for lee
  10. I rotate around but I try and do everything that I love. I work out every day just about, ride my bike 3-5 days a week and fish usually 2 evenings a week and one day on the weekend. I also manage to spend a lot of time with my fiancée and two year old son. I am just glad I don't need more than about 5-6 hours sleep a night.
  11. What's even more funny is lee had pretty much the same numbers last year with no run support. I think I heard today that he didn't get his first win till late July last year.
  12. They are both plain awful with ERAs north of 10. Doc looks like he did when they yanked him because of hear exhaustion last season. Hamels, who knows because he had a decent spring. One last note....cliff lee for cy young!!!!! Dude is tearing it up.
  13. Forgot bacon ice cream which is surprisingly good....vote for cheese for me though. Hard to have a burger without some nice sharp white cheddar.
  14. No overload. The more info the better since it is all new to us.
  15. My dad went out today just to check his boat out since it was his first trip and apparently sme guys were catching them on bloodworms....guess we will see what happens and hopefully feel a tug or two on the end of the line
  16. I have done that before and it works but you have to use some pretty heavy braid. I have found that flouro or mono works better and it works even better if you double the line up when making your wraps.
  17. Well I am by no means an expert but my coldest water temp bass, 36 or so, was caught on New Year's Day this year in about 3' of water with a 3/4oz jig so to me it sounds like you are on to something. I am convinced that there are bass shallow all year and have caught fish every month of the year in less than 5' of water.
  18. Just another tool in the tool box. I will throw out a jumbo in the winter while I work other presentations just to up my chances. And believe it or not, using live bait is an art all to itself and is by no means automatic success.
  19. Thanks everyone. I just heard from my dad that the shad are showing up too so this could be a real fun couple of days.....I will be sure to post up a report with pictures
  20. Nobody teaches themselves or i should say very few.....you may not have had a person out there with you but you read articles and read posts on here all of which are written by somebody else. I can also relate to not wanting people to use up your gear, especially when you can't just go out and buy gear whenever you want. To me even the most expensive soft plastic bait is less than a dollar, except maybe frogs or swimbatis, so it is worth it to get someone into the sport. I try and help out others as much as possible and have been on a few float trips with my dad and older brother where i gave them the crankbaits that seemed to be working while i tried to figure out another pattern which helped me to become a more versatile angler in the process.
  21. I used mono for around a month when I got back into fishing a few years ago and then switched to braid and never looked back. You also don't have to use a leader, I rarely do unless water is super clear and catch plenty of fish. I also think braid is cheaper in the long run, I have one rod that has braid that is 3 years old and is doing just fine where if I was using mono I would have probably respooled 15 times by now. And as far as technology goes yeah you can drive to work in a smart car just fine but a corvette is so much more fun
  22. I am with you on the nats. They are a good team but they faded down the stretch last year. Gonna be a fun race for sure....guess I need to get my tickets to see a game up in DC here soon
  23. I have caught 1 fish on a lipless crankbait. For some reason they just don't produce for me so I use square bills or other cranks in their place.
  24. Thanks for the tips.....so the closer high tide is to sunrise or sunset the better I take it?
  25. Mine was my first fish in a fly rod....about a 2-3" brookie I have snagged some smaller minnows and a few crayfish but those don't count.
