  1. I fish some pretty good lakes but none made the list which is ok. I'd rather avoid the boat traffic being in a kayak and all
  2. Nice job!! I caught my first jig fish this year too after reading all the posts.
  3. That thing is crazy!!!! I wonder what it would have been like to catch on a fly rod
  4. I didn't mean kept....poor choice of words on my part. I am planning on heading out there next Saturday myself.....maybe I will get lucky lol
  5. I have heard rumors of multiple double digit bass being taken out of briery this spring.......hmmmmm
  6. You are definitely getting your use out of that link here lately Great article to by the way and it helped me to catch my PB last spring
  7. I read it as it doesn't matter what the season is but i would guess that the closed season coincides with when yo uwould most likely see bass on the beds.
  8. Interesting but good to know.....
  9. THey are definitely high on my list of itens to get too, I just wish the 15# model weighed in less than 1/4lb increments.
  10. I find if you compare abrasion resistance by diameter and not lb test that braid wins hands down. if you are comparing lb test to lb test then flouro or mono wins mainly because it is about 5 times the size. One place that braid does not excel is with toothy critters. A pickerel will cut through braid very easily. In my opinion the advatage of braid is the high lb test braking strength to low diameter and it lasts a loooong time and not abrasion resistance.
  11. Yesterday's game was the strangest thing i have ever seen. If anyone said Halladay has 9 strikeouts through 3 1/3 there is no way you would assume the phillies were down 5-0 and halladay would be pulled before recording another out. What sucks even worse is two of the homers look like they should have been caught....oh well that is why they play 162 games a year. I am just hoping no sweep.....
  12. Honestly I would look elsewhere. That looks like a mud pit to me but if I had to fish it I would use loud baits or something with lots of flash. Given the muddy nature top water might also work all the time so I would chuck a spook or a popper of some sort.
  13. Hamels got lit up early but settled down nicely. I blame it on him shaving the 'stache and it throwing off his weight balance Hopefully halladay does a little better but it sure was nice to see utley play well and get a triple and J-roll going first to third on a play he probably shouldn't have.
  14. I think you can get more bang for your buck in a spinning set up than a casting. You can get an excellent spinning reel for $75-80 where a baitcaster you are looking at at least the $100 range. I currently use 2-3 spinning rods and 3 baitcasters depending on where and what techniques i am using. I find the baitcasters to be a little more technique specific than a spinning setup and if you throw a lot of crankbaits casting gear is the way to go.
  15. Well said. All of the above mentioned things are not just good for the environment but your energy bill will also go down as well.
  16. Being a kayak angler and fish alone more often than not I always tell my fiancée where I am fishing. I also tell my buddies who actually know the water where I will be too in case something does happen they actually know the water. The coming home thing is always a crap, shoot because I never know but I always give the courtesy of a text saying I am still out so I won't be cooking dinner so go ahead and order a pizza
  17. It's funny you posted this because I was just looking at them today on TW. I will be curious to see others experiences.
  18. Stankxbaitco hero craws float in the claw region as well and they are a pretty good trailer. I usually cut off the first section though to make them a touch shorter.
  19. nice fish. I especially like the dark colortion since most of the fish i have caught lately are all pale....i will also say in the 2-3lb range
  20. Intriguing but it also sounds somewhat like the "drop shot a hula popper" thread too....
  21. Sounds like you need to mix it up and try something different. Big fish don't get big by being dumb. It may take you many many trips to catch a lunker but you will learn about the lake in the process. Try fishing the lake at differnt times of the day and night with various baits. In a lake that small you could probably fish the entire thing in a few hours and then head back later and do it again. This will help you figure out where and when they feed. It also never hurts to keep a log of your activity, what baits, what time, water temp, weather etc...then when you do catch the fish you can look back and say this is what i did and these were the conditions and try and replicate on the next outing. On a few of hte lakes i frequent i know spots that hold bigger fish and i try and hit them in prime feeding times that i figured out on previous trips. Also a 5lb LM while a good fish is hardly wall material in my oipinion. Good luck!!
  22. If the grass carp are decent size target them. Way better fight than a bass
  23. I used to know a girl i climbed with pretty regularly. SHe was incredible and never worked out a day in her life but could crank out 1 arm pull ups and, even more amazingly, a 1 arm front lever.....never saw another person, man or woman, do that feat even though many said they could.
  24. I bet it is the white sucker but in spawning colors. I caught a horny head chub one year and I thought it was deformed or radioactive.....it was bright purple and later found out it was spawning coloration.
  25. Great looking boat. If I hadn't just bought a commander last year that boat would be high up on my list. Seems to be the best of the hybrid and SOT world.....
