  1. Not quite sure where Winni is but Ive been slamming them on shallow cranks latley. I'd say give it a shot.
  2. Thanks guys. Kristen, Fish it just like the name 'crankbait' implies. You crank it. Cast it out and 'crank' it in. The faster you crank/the lower you hold your rod tip, the deeper it will dive. Fish it along the edge of grass lines or cast towards brush piles, downed trees, beds of vegetation, or undercut banks/tree roots and fish it back to you. Bass are ambush predators so basically anywhere that a bass could hide. You can just burn it in as fast as you can, use a steady retrieve, or use a retrieve with short pauses/twitches. If you feel it pulling through submerged weeds, give it a good rip. Ripping it through the weeds may cause a reaction strike. I caught my first crankbait fish (not on a shad rap though) in a deep rocky reservoir at the end of the summer so yeah, that sounds accurate enough. But Ive noticed that as fall set in, the crankbait bite has definitly picked up. The majority of my fish this month have been on cranks. The fish I talked about in this post were all caught fishing from/casting parrallel to a dam in about 7 FOW. Ive heard that bass sometimes like to trap their prey up against something and this particualr outting seems to verify that.
  3. Today I went out and picked up a 7-day saltwater liscense so I could go fishing for stripers with my dad. We were using cut up pieces of crab. Caught a couple small ones. My dad's were the biggest at 15 and 17 inches. Nothing amazing. I took a picture of mine anyway (my dad is technologically impaired so the pictures kinda blurry). But I also caught a red drum. My first one. Again not real big but I thought it was pretty cool. I know the stripers grow to a good size cuz when I was younger I caught some that were 28+ inches but I was curious how big the red drums go.
  4. Went out this morning before work. Not much luck for the first hour or so and then got 2 nice size bass and a pickerel in about 30 min. Caught them on a Rapala Shad Rap. There were 2 other guys there fishing plastic worms who weren't catching anything. The one guy tied on a crank, got it snagged shortly after and went back to worms. They looked kind of jealous. I try not to take pleasure in other peoples failures but it was nice for me to be the cool guy catching fish for a change. Usually its the other way around. Nice little boost of confidence for me. Made me feel like I was doing something right. If I didn't have to go to work, I probably would have caught a few more. They really started biting right around when I had to leave. I was able to take one picture before the batteries in my camera died. The 2nd one was bigger and I took a pic with my phone but I lost the usb cable for it.
  5. Hello and welcome to BR!
  6. Ive been slamming them on cranks lately. Bandit 200 series crankbaits in variuous colors/ Rappala Shallow Shad Rap. No dinks. They've all been nice size bass and some big pickerel as well.
  7. If you ask me, friends are over-rated. I think I only have 3 people that I really consider friends and not just aquaintences and I don't even see them anymore cuz they all went away to college out of state. Never got into facebook or myspace and all that. Seems like way to much drama for me.
  8. That fish is a beast!
  9. Welcome to BR! You'll definitly learn a ton here.
  10. Hello and welcome to BR!
  11. I answered the last survey too but I figuered I'd answer the updated one.
  12. I know the walmart I go to right now doesn't have them but they're opening a new one closer to me next week. Ill have to check.
  13. They definitly look great. Ill probably order some once I get my rent paid. Sucks no one around here carries them. At least no where that I know of. I watched bassresource videos about the 'rage rig' too. Kinda cool that the brand has its own specific way to rigs its plastics.
  14. Thanks for all the replys everyone. Didn't think about the effect bouncing around in the trunk would have on my reels and I am on the road quite a bit. Im thinking I might be better off just taking them into the house unless Im going out the very next day or something like that.
  15. Ive been thinking about keeping my gear in the trunk of my car. I assume in the summer it might not be the best idea. Im thinking the extreme heat would be bad for the line as well as the soft plastics and possibly even the glue used on hard baits. But with winter coming on, would the extreme cold be a problem? I don't wanna ruin my stuff but I like the idea of having it ready to go at a moments notice. Any thoughts?
  16. These look awesome. Can't wait to try them. I actually haven't fished any rage tail products yet but when I get a few extra bucks Im gonna pick up some of these, the anacondas, and the eeliminators.
  17. Went out earlier this morning and made the suggested mods to my roostertail. Not only did it spin perfectly every time, but I actually caught some fish on it! No bass but I'd rather catch something than nothing. Can't believe this crappie hit it. He had the whole hook in his mouth and it barely fit. The pickerel cut the line just as I pulled him out of the water and over the dam I was fishing off of. He almost flopped back in the water with the lure still in his mouth but I was able to grab him just in time. He was a biggun. Measured a bit over 20inches. Thanks for the tips everyone!
  18. Hello and welcome!
  19. Nice fish. I'd say between 3 and 4lbs sounds right. If the bottles 9in, then that puts the fish around 18-20. I caught one yesterday that was 15.5 in and it weighed in at just over 2 so thats what Im going on.
  20. LOL @ ratherbfishing's number 7
  21. I like the Bandit 200 series crankbaits. Most of the lakes I fish aren't that deep and these run between 4 and 8 ft. Ive only bought 3 but Ive caught fish on all of them. Colors are Crawfish Red Crawdad, Mistake, and Royal Shad. Some people might say there are better brands you can buy but these work great for me. Plus they're a little cheaper than some of the others. Took my girlfriend out for the first time today and she managed to snag/lose 2 of them so I guess its back to the baitshop. Gonna try some new colors. As for senkos, anything with the words watermelon or pumpkin in the name should do you just fine.
  22. Yes. It is a legit roostertail. It was bit windy today. Maybe the line wasn't as tight as it could be. I tried giving the line a jerk but it only really worked about half the time. Just checked it. Nothing bent. Its all strait as an arrow. Had a Mepps a while back and I didn't have any problems with it but got it snagged and lost it the first day I had it. Got the Rooster Tail because I liked the color and my baitshop didn't have much to pick from. 1/4 oz Interesting. I may give this a try. I appreciate all the tips guys. Thanks
  23. Nice fish man!
  24. Welcome to BR! Can't wait til I get a boat.
