  1. I have never fished hydrilla so what I recommend may not work so hot . I have fished other vegetation s , been doing it all summer .I like to cast on top of the mats with a weightless senko type worm or Yum Swurm using a big hook and heavy action rod . Just twitch it along and pause in holes and such . Frogs and toads too .
  2. I meant the depth for a pond that small .
  3. I love buzzbaits and there has been an algae explosion on the lake I frequent . I cover water faster with a toad .
  4. I put a rubber leg tip on the butt end with four nickles inside . Now it feels balanced .
  5. My dad liked catfish and use to take me to irrigation ditches that were full of bullheads . That way I was assured to catch some . When I got old enough my uncle and I { we were the same age } use to ride our bikes to these ditches and catch bullheads . Dad worked at the lock and dam on the Mississippi and I would go with him day or night . I'd spend 8 hours fishing below the locks for catfish , carp , white bass or whatever would bite . I loved to go at night with friends and sit on a sand bar , and make a campfire . When I got older I took him fishing . He wasnt into bass fishing but loved to catch catfish . Mark Twain lake was new and we figured those cats out . Here he is preparing to clean our nights catch .He passed away last month .
  6. I got the clarus and it is tip heavy . I tried different reels and lures and cant find a use for it . I just bought a cheapo Quantum graphex for 25 dolllars and I prefer it much more .
  7. A Berkely Dredger 25.5 will plow the bottom at 20 foot .
  8. Well I'll be . Maybe I saw those at one time and forgot about them . That happens a lot with me . I use to punch little disc out of plastic lids for trailer hooks then i had the idea of using the inner-tube .
  9. I understand someone choosing not to hunt but still fish . It is killing a beautiful creature that is not that different from us .I dont deer hunt because nobody but me will eat it . I occasionally get a couple of squirrels or rabbits . I make a delicious dish out of them with gravy in a crock-pot .
  10. I once caught a bass on a jig and cigarette butt .
  11. This summer its been mostly Ribbits and old Luck-E Strike King Jogger worms { senkos} .Its difficult to pitch standing in a jon boat , low to the water , with gun-wells so I need weight . The Jogger worms and a 1/4 ounce sinker gives me enough heft to pitch into shallow cover while Jelly worms are utilized deep .
  12. Toad fishing yesterday . I caught about ten and lost about the same . Had trouble keeping the hook in the slot even if skin hooking . I have these rubber buttons punched out of a bicycle inner tube with a hole punch that I use for trailer hooks . I placed one on the toad hook and then slid it tight . It has enough tension to hold it in place but moves down easily during the hook-set . For the last hour I used and it worked pretty good .It has to be replaced each time a new toad is rigged but one inner tube will make a thousand . I've only used it for that little bit but it looks promising .
  13. I fished it once and caught two muskies on french fry worms . Didnt catch a lot of bass . I want to go back , its a good looking lake .
  14. I put a bead above the clevis to keep t from getting wedged in the R-bend .
  15. Thanks smalljaw67 , I did not know how that worked .
  16. Big old football jig for the rocky structure and cover.
  17. For separating the primary and secondary blades . How much space should be between them ? Longer blades should be spaced further than shorter blades I presume . Willows spaced further than Colorados...
  18. I have never caught a ten lb bass and doubt I ever will but by-golly I'm going to try to catch one today .
  19. Is there a rule of thumb on how many beads/spacers to put on a spinnerbait ?
  20. Kalins Lunker Grub in Witches Brew .
  21. I have never fished hydrilla . Good vegetation lures for me are spinnerbaits and buzzbaits along the edges and above it. Lightly weighted or weightless soft plastics . Frogs and Stanley Ribbets . A lot of people punch through it , I have never tried that technique .
  22. I like darker colored skirts with a little bit of chartreuse mixed in . I make some of living rubber that is a combination of black ,brown , blue and chartreuse .
  23. I have an idea on where I want to fish and know what lures exploit that type of cover or structure well . If that doesnt work then I try other things . Lure selection is the easiest part .
  24. I have done this . Did you add a bobber stop? I have some DOA pinch on weights to add to the shank and 1/8 ounce rubber core sinkers that do the same thing . Theres always a way too add weight .
