  1. All lures work . Some work better in rock , some wood , some brush , some vegetation ...What cover are you needing help with ?
  2. I bought a spinnerbait mold because I wanted a heavy Strike King Rocket Shad with a single hook for deep water . Then I had a Banana head mold and buzzbait mold with components given to me . My lures dont cost much to make . I find skirts on clearance and take blades and swivels off of old lures . Back in the 80's I made a mold for a plastic bait . I whittled it out of a piece of wood , made a plaster of paris mold and melted old soft plastics . Then I tinkered with carving crankbaits for a little bit . Heres a couple of my cranks .
  3. I can afford any of them but love a good deal . I could get the fuego for 25 dollars , with 30 per cent off coupon and fifty dollars off I can get a KastKing Speed demon for free .
  4. Bassmaster will give you lures that cost more than the subscription .
  5. Back when I was fishing the ditches I was using a 6'0" mh Lightning rod mostly and spooled with 14 lb stren . I was horsing those bass in , up to 7 lbs , maybe an 8 thrown in .

You can still get a fairly accurate measurement by using the photo to measure the length and that bass has lots of girth .
  7. Multil purpose reel . About a 7 to 1 ratio .
  8. I have fifty dollars worth of points on Amazon. What baitcasting reel would you redeem fifty bucks for ? I could get a Diawa Fuego for 25 dollars .
  9. A 3/8 ounce is a good all around choice . Back in the day I caught lots of big bass on a 3/8 Arkie style from a culvert that went under a road . Trees would wash up against it and the bass would be right in the thick of things .
  10. In his defense , he wasnt a fisherman . He was a relative of my wife visiting for a couple of days . Heck of a nice guy .It was my wife's idea to take him fishing .
  11. Everythingthatswims wrote an excellent report about his performance at the college bass championship last year . Its here in the archives .Here is one of his stories , he has more . good reading .
  12. They tell me they need to be home by such and such time I just tell them we will go some other day . I once took a guy out who wanted to leave after about an hour . 25 miles to the lake , then 8 miles by boat to a point , caught one fish and he said he had to be back .

From the butt of your rod to the end of the foregrip is probably around 13 to 14 inches . I'm guestimating this bass is 23 to 24 inches and fat . That would be 7 to 8 lbs according to a length to weight scale .
  14. I dont know what an LFS is but its wrong .
  15. When fishing with somebody and the fish are not cooperating , I feel pressured . When alone I dont .
  16. I have an Old Town canoe too and those same paddles .
  17. Id say fish cover less than thirteen feet .
  18. We are the weirdos .
  19. Alone . I have a long list of people wanting me to take them fishing and I rarely do . I dont get to fish as much as I like so when I do go I want to enjoy it as much as possible .
  20. Over the decades more than 90 per cent of the bass i have caught have come on crankbaits , spinnerbait , buzzbaits , and texas rigs . Other lures get used and sometimes one will got hot and used a lot . The last few trips stanley ribbets have done the bulk of the catching .
  21. If I get on an off-shore crankbait bite i might use a half dozen different diving baits . Then throw in a texas rig and lip-less bait . Might decide to try a fast sinking spinnerbait or a jigging spoon or Little George. I have had 70 to 100 fish days like that . Then other day's I might , for example , fish a spinnerbait all day and barely use anything else . I will always try a Texas rig , even if its just for a few cast .
  22. Texas rigged crayfish , tubes , hula grubs , creature baits , ned rig , jigs ,poppers ,buzzbaits , spinnerbaits. Pretty much the exact same thing i use for largemouths except I use more crayfish imitators and colors. I didnt use a true Ned rig just half a stick worm on a jig head . Was doing that years before I heard of a Ned rig .
  23. I deep crank with lures that weigh over an ounce but dont do it enough to warrant a dedicated rod to it . So I getaway with a 7 foot MH . Its top rating is only 3/4 ounce but i only carry 4 or 5 combos and they all have to do double duty .
  24. You used a crawfish bug whatchamacallit on a round ball head ?
