  1. With all the rain weve had creating high muddy water , I made two more spinnerbaits . The main willow on one is chartreuse and the other red . Back when I first started bass fishing in the 70's , the guys in the little club I joined loved to throw a white spinnerbait with red blades . I'm going to go old school and try the white/red combo next time .
  2. He did ask for favorite . Buzzbait is my favorite too . Not my best fish catcher but when its on, they are literately a "blast" .
  3. Haha . I did the exact same thing . Tied the Hound dog to a marker buoy and sometimes used it as a marker buoy .
  4. Super long cast are needed to get loops out of a baitcasting spool .
  5. I would say most of the time those Deep Manns Pigs would be difficult to fish from shore . You have some good classic baits . Those MudBugs are good at about 5 to 7 foot and that Baby Bass wee R is a good bait too . I would be afraid to throw those old baits from shore because they snag up , they are difficult to retrieve .
  6. I also use the David Fritts one . It works but it usually is not quick .
  7. I did not know that . I have one and only used it a couple of cast . The edge of the lip cuts the line during the retrieve ?
  8. If your Kayak fishing you're probably not doing much deep structure fishing ,, I wouldnt be . You are probably junk fishing the shallows. Choose lures that will effectively work the high percentage spots , like lay-downs , vegetation ... In between the high percentage spots choose lures that will effectively work and cover water fast . There should be several choices for both . Rotate through them until you find one that is working . Its hard to recommend what those lures might be due to each body of water has different characteristics .
  9. Each body of water is different . Clarity , cover , structure , low-land , high-land , rock , mud...My favorite lure depends on where and when I'm fishing .
  10. Reading the cook squirrel thread got me thinking squirrel . What is every ones favorite squirrel gun . I use my Marlln 99M1 carbine that I have had since 1975 . Got it for a Christmas . Its the top one . I put a better scope on it since this photo was taken .
  11. Re reading this thread makes my mouth water . Didnt hunt at all this year . Health problems in my family required a lot of attention .
  12. Those are ones I pour using Do-It molds . Nothing fancy . I reuse blades from worn out spinnerbaits and the skirts are Terminators I found on clearance . That middle one is sweet . Those blades come off an old Excalibur lure . I have already removed the hardware from two of these and put on fresh bodies because they were all bent out of shape . That is the beauty of pouring your own . Just keep recycling the components .
  13. For bank fishing , mobility is the key . Just a cheapo fishing vest and and one rod and reel .
  14. Girls , work and partying couldnt keep me away from fishing . I always managed to juggle it and if the party was by a body of water , I left the party and went fishing . I had a party van , with rod racks .
  15. Three trips 125 bass caught , 121 come on spinnerbaits .
  16. I cant beat the heat . I use to look forward to hot summer days . I wear short sleeves , shorts and a wide brim hat . I dont think all that wicking gear works in high humidity on a person that sweats profusely . I fish in the wind , or just wait for night . If its hot with no wind , I cant do it . I was a firefighter for 27 years and think I got overheated too many times .
  17. That sounds exactly like my Dad . Try to help and he rejects it and mumbles that " this is just not my day ." Some people just want to be the hero and have the bait and equipment that works . Others will say " Heck yeah , let me try that. "
  18. I lost one big bass after another one season while trying to emulate professional tournament anglers and horse them in . Now when I have a big bass on , the only time I do that is to get them out of cover . I also dont use braid . A big old bass coming out of the water shaking its massive head attached to no stretch braid ,that could easily rip a big old hole in its mouth .
  19. I have one new jar of black and blue frogs . Maybe there are some old ones somewhere in my cluttered basement .
  20. I know a few . Bass were not as easy to catch as they thought they were going to be and they got bored with it . Our sport is not for everyone .
  21. Uh, Martin ' signifies feet " signifies inches .
  22. There are times where long cast are needed . Trying to reach feeding/schooling fish , getting the most depth from a crankbait are the two instances that pop into my head .
  23. You wouldnt be lipping a bowfin .☺️
  24. Veterans were honored in Hannibal by putting posters up downtown .. My dad .
  25. I fished Bull shoals under flood conditions and found smallmouth thirty foot deep on a major point .My home lake , Mark Twain is a muddy lake , so the bass are always shallow during high water. The best place i found and so did everyone else , was a newly submerged pond dam . Also shallow main lake points , and boat ramps
