I was fishing an irrigation ditch from my Bass baby a few years back and i noticed these strange splashes close to me . Didnt know what they were at first but after a few seconds I realized they were rocks . I looked back at the bridge and a pickup truck was speeding away . People , sheesh !
  4. I dont even know who the Googan squad is , but because of a new thread ...
  5. Worse advice . On a Texas rig use the lightest weight you can get away with . I do not apply by that rule . Best advice . When you feel the slightest tap , reel down and set the hook .
  6. That happens a lot . Sometimes the fish comes out ,sometimes the fish comes off and sometimes I have to go in after it . Bill Dance says to give the fish pressure when its pulling hard and let up when it lets up . That never worked for me .
  7. I sometimes use a 1.0 on a Manns 6 inch jelly worm or other skinny worm .
  8. The spinnerbait is upside down during the retrieve ?
  9. As trailers or stand alone on a jig head ?
  10. I,m not a vegetation expert and what I fish is probably more fragile than what you are fishing . When faced with vegetation I use spinnerbaits and buzzbaits around the edges and over the the top of submerged weeds/algae . Weightless soft plastics work well. I have been having a lot of success this year with toads . Frogs work too . If the vegetation is sturdy enough a lot of folks like to throw lipless crankbaits in it , then rip it free to trigger strikes . Others like to punch through it . Johnson silver Minnow's are made for it . Maybe some guys more experienced fishing vegetation will weigh in .
  11. This topic comes up frequently . I target both quantity and quality at the same time .
  12. Luck E Strike Jogger worms Texas rigged was my top bait in July , followed closely by Stanley Ribbits . My supply of Jogger worms has been depleted .Senkos are too expensive . Guess I'll give Yum Dingers a go .
  13. I tried a Beetle Spin because the fish were not hitting in this particular cove . I noticed the chara algae and had turned brown . I went again last week and saw the conservation dept spraying it with something. I hate it when they do that . It affects the bass , makes them sick and skinny . Ticks me off . They use to control the vegetation with sterile grass carp . It worked wonderfully . I dont know why they are not going that route .
  14. Select your lures and rigs based on the cover and structure you are fishing and the equipment your using . There should be several that work . Use them all . Being you didnt give much info on your situation , it is hard to make recommendations . I have never fished natural lakes . I'm speculating the water is clear , deep , relatively structureless . What aboutcover ?
  15. If I could catch 15 lbers like you I definitely would not be wasting my time catching smaller bass .Being a six lber is a big bass where I fish , I can catch bass less than 15 inches and still catch the larger bass frequently .
  16. How do you know it will spin opposite ? I copied a bait that I liked and have success with but did not know the reason behind the different variations . Smalljaw67 explained it .
  17. Exactly . 12 to 15 inch fish , stay on them all day ,less than 12 inches try for something bigger . If I catch enough the chances are decent that one or more will be big . Id rather catch fifty bass with a six lber thrown in than just 1 six lb fish .
  18. I use to make them for fishing below dams in current .Caught lots of different species with them including smallmouth and largemouth .
  19. Not me ,the more the merrier . I did get frustrated yesterday when I hooked ten dinks using a small swim bait mounted on a jig head and nine of them coughed it up at the boat . LOL What the heck.?
  20. I tried the rubber button out again yesterday and it worked great . In case anyone wants to know , I've been using a 5.0) Trokar EWG hook and the barrel swivel on the line and shank trick . I caught 7 fish yesterday before having to change lures and that was a used toad from the last trip .
  21. I fished it one day and didnt catch anything.
  22. When bank fishing rip rap , I use sinking baits most . I cast to different depths , let the lure sink , then retrieve it following the contour of the rock from deep to the bank . Any sinking lures work but snags are going to happen . I use inexpensive baits such ad pre-rigged swimbaits , jig&grub...
  23. I still throw Fat Raps .
  24. Okay . Someone needs to post a link to a video about wormin , feeling the fish and setting the hook Or go the video section on this site and search for it .
