  1. I use mono . If your new to baitcasting I suggest starting out with a good mono . Once you get the hang of it, then try braid and see which you prefer .
  2. I have the same problem with walking baits . I rarely use them because of the low hook percentage .
  3. Toads . I have a love/hate relationship with them . They get bites , I'm just not very good at hooking the bass afterwards . My largest bass caught this season was on a Stanley Ribbet .
  4. I seldom have much luck fishing obvious structure like long extended points when I visit new large reservoirs . They are easy too identify and receive too much pressure . My home lake I fish points with success though .
  5. One article I read made the claim that a smaller lb test can be stronger than a thicker line when tied to a small hook because there is less stress on it .
  6. I saw a trash tornado at wal-Mart .☺️
  7. I like the cute girl .LOL ?
  8. The consensus is to stay away from the gap , so i'll go back to tying that way .
  9. I have mudgugs , Bombers and Hellbenders .
  10. I see a couple of Crankin Raps in AJ's box . Those are good running , tight action baits . I use them a lot between 10 and 12 foot .
  11. Long ago I was taught to tie on the double part of the wire because if tied inside the gap the ends of the split ring can damage the line . Now I tie in the gap . I think it holds better and doesnt damage the line . To accomplish this , because my eye-sight isnt great , I just tie it anywhere then slide it over to the gap and re-tighten . What are your thoughts ? PS. I use a trillene knot .

  13. One more thing about the Dredgers is they stay in the strike zone a long time . I get lots of hits close to the boat . They have a tight action so they dont wear me out . I've had good luck on every size except the new 8.5 . Havent caught a bass on it yet but have caught several nice crappie .
  14. Berkely Dredgers . Last year I caught several bass 22 foot deep with the 25.5 . Thats the deepest I ever caught bass on a diving crankbait .
  15. There are some humps worth checking out near the west end, right next to the channel . One is ten foot and a nearby one twenty .
  16. I would opt for the 7 foot med and spool it with the mono . Thats what I generally use for lipless baits .
  17. I stopped in Academy last week , while in St Louis and picked up an H2O rod , the cammo one . They are on clearance . The rod had a fore-grip which I demand and they are getting hard to find . i used it yesterday and have zero complaints . I broke my Gander Mountain Lady Guide rod yesterday , really stupid on my part and I'm heading to st Louis again today. Think I'll stop in and pick up another another one or two . That Lady Guide rod was my favorite . I cut the handle down two inches , put a butt cap on it filled with nickles to keep the balance . It was my worm rod and is going to be difficult to replace .
  18. Thats why I'm staying up the little Niangua , hoping to find some less congested areas .
  19. Reservations are in . The wife and I be spending a week at LOZ second week of October . Have a cottage up the Little Niangua . I'm not going to study or anything . Just show up and go fishing . I seem to have better success that way . I havent fished there in almost forty years . If the weather is nice we may stay longer .
  20. I fish a bay that is silted in .What use to be deep river is now a shallow pan , leveed off from the Mississippi . It is not wade-able . A person will become stuck in it and when they do escape ,with much effort,, they will probably be shoe-less .There are some nice bass that live there . I use Texas rigs with 1/8th ounce weights , spinnerbaits and buzzbaits .
  21. I wonder if that trick would work well with a Toad .?
  22. I pick a plastic lizard , that way I could buzz it on top also .
