  1. I love Hula Grubs . In a small stream the smallmouths devour them in the current and the largemouths in the slack water . I Texas rig them .
  2. I would hit those points every time out . I choose lures that "thoroughly" work on the cover//structure present . Vegetation spinnerbaits , buzzbaits , lightly weighted soft plastics , toads ,: Standing timber crankbaits , spinnerbaits , buzzbaits , texas rigs ,: points texas rigs ,diving crankbaits , Red Eye Shads
  3. Most success I have had in high "muddy" water [I'm talking an inch or two visibility] is a jig and pig . Black and orange , back when bright orange pork frogs were available . Shallow cover , steep banks .
  4. I fish a variety of square bills in old timber and stumps but when it comes to new laydowns with a lot of small limbs , I have a hack for that ,it requires a knife or clippers . Cut the line and tie on a spinnerbait .
  5. Ditto on the Bayou Boogie . That is an under appreciated bass catcher .
  6. Done and done. #4 copper willow and #4 copper colorado on a 1/2 ounce bait and white skirt . I spread the blades apart some to make it a speed lure .
  7. Good info . I have some copper blades , I'll assemble a couple .
  8. His boat almost sunk . he didnt get to fish . Congratulations on your teams success this tourney . You're in first despite Dipalmas mishap .
  9. I'm leaving in one week .. If bass are moving in the back of coves ,I'm thinking I need to make a special lake of the Ozarks spinnerbait . Maybe painted white blades .
  10. I do it at times , especially when I'm using a hand controlled elec motor .
  11. I have a couple of the Two Taps Red Eye Shads and havent done much with them , yet . My most successful one is a silent RES , chrome /blue back that has a loose weight inside so it rattles but less noisy than a one knocker .
  12. I like to smell catfish bait . A store clerk got pretty upset when I popped open a jar of Sonnys in the store .?
  13. Wade fishing the Leatherman is usually the only tool I carry .I'm reminded of the day I was skinning and guttinng catfish in a river with just the multitool and my sister in law was amazed .
  14. I never fished a Natural Lake , so I woud take my usual big four Texas rigged worm crankbait spinnerbait buzzbait
  15. Leatherman with a diamond file like the Wave or Charge . I have the Charge .That diamond file is an excellent hook sharpener .
  16. I have been lucky enough to fish for unpressured bass in a small river .It was unbelievably good . By far the best fishing I have experienced .Once word got out and people started fishing it , that changed in a hurry .
  17. I like pawpaw trees . They are super lightweight and straight . .
  18. I fish in a silted in bay and irrigation ditch that is impossible to wade . Its a good largemouth bass fishing spot never the less . Largemouth bass are very prolific . If a person steps in it one would immediately get stuck and find it difficult to get out , probably losing their shoes in the process . How can one tell before hand ? I dont know . If its lowland , still water , surrounded by farm land , that would be an indication .
  19. How deep are you referring too ?
  20. If bass are busting shad I catch them with whatever is on the rod I'm holding . I've thrown 25.5 Dredgers at them , hold the rod high and barely pull it under or toss a toad and let it sink . Those are the easiest fish to catch . If its just single fish jumping out of the water and making a big splash , then make sure they are bass . That is not typical bass behavior .
  21. I have more success during the week .
  22. When the fish were jumping was there also bait fish jumping ?
  23. I sometimes feel the water disturbance when a bass approaches a bait and not hit .
  24. I like to bounce Red Eye Shads off the bottom in deep water, much like fishing a worm . When they work its dynamite . I havent found a largemouth bite with them this year , yet , but I wore the white bass out on them a week ago . I dont like to use lipless baits in woody cover because I snag up to often . Fishing in high percentage spots like that I'll go with something more snag resistant .
