  1. I have had success with numerous baits in cold water. November is an unpredictable time but like any other month , once you get on them a lot of fish can be caught . I already mentioned the jig and pork frog . Also the 6 inch jelly worm , Bomber Model A and Rapala Crankin Rap square bill have produced memorable days . Argobast Mud Bugs have worked in late winter . An anomaly was one day during a moderate snow bass had shad corralled at the back of a cove . We caught bass after bass on a buzzbait .
  2. A Great Blue Heron landed in my boat .
  3. Spinnerbaits are versatile and relatively snag resistant . I throw them in the thickest woody cover with very few hangups . Also like to throw them in and around grass . They can be used at any depth . Theres a lot to like about spinnerbaits .
  4. I have a system down for catching bass on rip rap dams from the bank . Lipless cranks work well but a few will be lost . After losing my most treasured Bayou Boogie I switched to more inexpensive lures like jig&grubs , prerigged swimbaits , beetle Spins...most any lure that sinks . Rip rap holds bait which attract bass . I start out casting next to bank , then start casting deeper and deeper . Let the lure settle to the bottom , thats where the high percentage strike zone is at . As you retrieve the lure , pause it a coupe of times and allow it to reach the bottom . This way your offering is in the strike zone the "entire" retrieve. also many hits will happen when the bait is killed . So if any of the waters you fish have riprap dams this is an excellent way to catch a few . Works for other speices to like crappie and big gills .
  5. My worm /jig rod is an inexpensive 6'8" Berkely TGS [ tiatnium guide system ] that I picked up on clearance somewhere . Three times I tried replacing it but keep going back to it. I just like the feel of it . The handle is a little shorter and the foregrip is perfect for my style of fishing .
  6. Its not that . I had a spool of spectra braid when it first came on the market .It was pretty rough and sliced my index finger deep , several times . Havent used any since . I missed a lot of fish this year with toads so I'm going to give braid a go again , just have to get in the habit of holding the rod differently . I think smooth would be less likely to slice flesh .
  7. First I heard of this stuff . Its intriguing . Think it would work well with frogs and Toads ?
  8. Too many hours , no fish. Youre doing it wrong . Are you fishing from bank or craft , describe it . Ponds , reservoirs , rivers..? Weeds , wood, rock..? clear water , stained , muddy ..? Spinning , baitcasting , spincast .Give all the info you can think of .
  9. No , I just assemble jigheds , the spinners and plastics . The plastics are not the Beetles , just grubs or something.
  10. Marabou jigs work pretty good . Jig and pig is my favorite but pork is hard to come by .I have a couple of bottles stashed .
  11. I'm looking for the smoothest braided lines made .
  12. All you midwest guys should love fishing today. I went yesterday .?
  13. I get a kick out of Ladybass and subscribed to her . TheFish Whisperer might be my favorite . Also subscribed to Fish the Moment Bass Resource Scott Martin Roland Martin Fishermans Handbook Rich Lindgren James Niggemeyer Jimmy Houston
  14. I like to just show up and fish .I dont like running all over the lake so I'll locate different structures and cover within a few miles of the launch and play it by ear .
  15. I havent done a lot of it but have had some success . I like to fish still water next to current and bounce crappie jigs off the bottom
  16. I bite it down once or twice before changing out . I dont trust using a worm that risk not staying in place .
  17. I cant find a 3-day history . Never-mind , got it .
  18. I use mono on everything but I am going to spool up a reel with braid for frogs and toads , I just need to remember not to hold the line between my index finger and thumb or I will slice said finger on the hook-set . If that happens back to mono it will be . On my worm/jig rod I use trilene clear blue fluorescent just so I can see it , everything else gets Big game .
  19. I plan on going tomorrow and there is a good possibility it will be the last for 2019 . My list of effective lures are rather small this season as I relied on the same few all year . Deep lures were Dredgers and Jelly worms but most of the fish I caught were shallow in the grass and algae mats . Spinnerbaits , toads and Texas Rigged Dingers saw the bulk of action .
  20. Describe your water pond , lake , clarity , shore fishing , boat , cover ,structure... omit nothing .Then we can get you line up with some effective lures .
  21. My biggest hit this year was giving Toad fishing a try . I love and hate those lures but it got a lot of fish for me over the algae matts . I tinkered and tinkered with it and now I have the rigging down , just need to boat more fish . My misses were too many lost big bass . I had some dandy's hit especially on the toad and just didnt boat them . I got one 6.5 lber landed but snapped my line three times on hook-sets . Finally I figured out that spool of line has been in a drawer for to long . Even sitting in a controlled atmosphere line will degrade .I got lazy and didnt change as often as one should . Lost a giant at LOZ . Was trying out a new hook and it just didnt penetrate . That one hurt .I had her at the boat .
  22. One of my more successful crankbaits is a crappie patterned Deep Wee R .
  23. Yesterday there were no fish showing up on the deep point but there were a lot of fish showing up at 25 foot out in the middle of no-where , strange . I skipped fishing deep .water temp 48 degrees . Caught 23 bass , 20 on a spinnerbait , in the grass Four were over 15 inches with the largest being 3.75 lbs .
  24. I say Texas rig too . If the person doesnt have the patience to learn it ,then a moving bait . But then again , if they dont have the patience to learn it then they might not be as crazy over fishing as us wing-nuts .
