  1. To me a tube is a tube . I use them on baitcasting gear just like a Texas rigged worm . One day I left my worm bag at home . I got to digging around my gear and found one bag of black Fatz Gizits . I texas rigged them and caught a bunch of bass , did not miss my other soft plastics a bit .
  2. I remember making carp bait with grandpa the night before . I think we mixed 1 cup flour , 1 cup oatmeal , 1 cup corn meal , 1 tbsp salt , 1 tblp sugar . Mix it together with some water then make 2 or 3 pattys . Boil the pattys in water for three minutes , then cut into bite sized squares . Refrigerate until ready to go . We made catfish bait too . Heres my mom catching a carp .
  3. I love carp fishing . Spent many years sitting on a river bank , listening to the st louis cardinals , drinking beer and catching carp . My grandpa got me started . Thats him on the left .
  4. there is a video on Youtube called Big Mouth Forever . Over an hour long and has Homer Circle in it .
  5. My first bass is in my avatar photo .
  6. You might try punching out a disc from a thick inner tube with a hole punch.
  7. I select lures based on the cover or structure I am fishing . Each lure has certain properties that work in certain situations . In thick woody ,brush weedless lures like jigs and Texas rigs excel . Spinnerbaits come through it well too. Long rocky banks crankbaits are a popular choice. Most of the time there are several different lures that will work and all one can do is try to make good selections .
  8. I enjoy the heck out of it , twice .? A few years back the Conservation dept changed the regulations of a nearby lake . The creel limit for bass became 12 a day with no length limit . They were begging people to harvest bass . i did my part . Now the lake is back to the original regulations . On the lake I fish the most there is a sign stating that they want the small bass removed , yet the majority of the anglers still have this notion that keeping bass is wrong .
  9. I have a half dozen or so new Bomber Prop A's still in the box and several more in my top water box They are simply a Long A with a prop like in the photo above . Other than a buzzbait they are my premier top-water lure . When I saw them in the clearance bin I snagged a life-time supply . They are deadly post-spawn lures . My biggest six fish limit ever of around thirty lbs was caught with one . I caught 24 keepers over 15 inches that day . A person should be able to add a prop to a Long A to make one .
  10. I started fishing jigs shortly after i learned to texas rig . There was no learning to it . Just tied them on instead of a Texas rig .I really dont understand why some people can catch fish on a worm but not a jig . A Texas rigged worm is the same thing except the weight is not molded onto the hook .
  11. I dont remember the first lure but it was probably a crappie jig .
  12. I wake them quite a bit just to keep them from getting hung in grass or limbs . Blakemore made one for waking I was fond of , the C.C. Spinner .It had an over-sized copper Colorado blade .
  13. sometimes a sub sandwich , veenie weenies , Snickers and a six pack of Natty .
  14. cane pole , bobber and night crawler for bait .
  15. Another fish that I ate only once but were very good are green sunfish . I caught a bunch through the ice one year , good sized ones for green sunfish . I heard they were no good but these sure were .
  16. Sounds like something the boat manufacturers need to address .
  17. Thats a Dalton Special . I just acquired that one .
  18. The wife and I use to can carp . They made great carp patties . The best bass I ever ate . It was a white bass though .
  19. I had a package too and used them a little . I didnt have any issues with them .
  20. I have ate many a carp . They were popular here along the river . The union I belonged to use to sell fried carp sandwiches during 4th of July celebrations downtown . We sold hundreds a day , a very lucrative fund raiser .
  21. I dont want to get hooks stuck in me , again . If I have a decent bass with a mouth full of trebels . I'll grab the line after its tuckered out , about a foot away and lip it with a fish grip . I dont grab the line on a hard fighting fish .
  22. As far as parasites in the bass I have only seen them once in the meat, in the form of little white bumps on the skin .They were from a pond a guy wanted me to help thin out . I asked a conservation dept officer about them and he said the fish were good to go . So I had a fish fry and everyone loved them . I often catch bass with what looks like a parasite of some sort on the tail fin .
  23. I guess KVD could just ask the spectator boats to not look .
  24. I dont bring fish home to clean . I usually dont mess with them unless there is a fish cleaning station at the water . Small bass are easy to fillet ,crappie , sunfish too and walleye are my favorite to both clean and eat . Catfish can be a chore but I like to eat them at camp-outs .
