  1. I love the early spring days where you shed the jacket around noon and slip on a pair of shorts for the first time all year even though its a little too early for shorts . Its about that time a window opens and a big bass hits .
  2. How is the water clarity ? What type of bass are you targeting ? I plan on going this week for largemouth , the first trip this year and I'll most likely be throwing texas rigs ,jigs , crankbaits and spinnerbaits and fish them s-l-o-w . Steep banks with the sun beating on them are what I like to target , paying special attention to any cover on said banks. Also like to hit the rip-rap dam with cranks . Wont ignore deep points down to about 20 foot either but usually , early like this , I do best by fishing shallow areas warmed by the sun .Theres an excellent chance of landing a big female fat with roe .
  3. Keep on truckin . I have caught a lot of smallmouths around an old automobile dumped in a river . Half of it is above the surface .
  4. One of my favorite places is a point that juts out about fifty yards then when it reaches about 14 foot it drops down to 25 foot . It gets fished a lot but what a lot of anglers are missing is the end of the point is shaped like the end of a Milk Bone dog treat . The point widens out in both directions . I hit those nodes thoroughly with a Dredger 17.5 , plastic worm and bounce a Red Eye Shad on them before moving on .
  5. When I have to head to shore I look foe a little draw to pull into .
  6. I know how to tie three knots and dont know how to tie leaders . LOL . I just use mono for everything . 12 lb Big Game is my all purpose line on my all purpose rods .
  7. I pour my own using a spinnerbait mold .
  8. Does Ott Defoe get an automatic invite ?
  9. My biggest weakness in bass fishing is casting . I struggle with both skipping and back-handed casting .
  10. You wont need toilet paper , just take plenty of paper towels .
  11. My latest boat came with electric steering and that thing was a pain . I would get it working in the garage just to have it quit again on the water . I have the cable steer now and am much happier .
  12. Spinnerbaits get hot and cold for me and this last season they were "Hot". I had two Excalibur lures and wore one completely out , the wire broke , then started on the next one .The primary base colors for the brown and green water I fish are whites , chartreuse and combinations there of with other colors mixed in . Mostly I fish willow and also like the wide willows a lot . Colorado's are mostly employed at night . I'm not brand loyal and use any of them as long as they have a ball bearing swivel .
  13. All I have to do is right click on a photo and it give me the option to resize .
  14. OK , I have it . Ricocheting squarebills off wood cover . I have not gotten the hang of it and snag up constantly .
  15. The difficult thing about crankbaits is getting the correct depth from them . Berkely Dredgers take the guess work out of that . Just pick the next one up with the advertised depth thats deeper than the bottom .
  16. A bar of ivory soap comes in handy . It floats , so if you drop it you dont lose it . I've done that before .I've taken baths in both lakes and rivers .
  17. I'd throw it away . Sometimes crankbaits just dont work .
  18. Done it a few times . My only advice is to get camp set up early then go fishing and dont forget the insect repellent .
  19. How did you come up with all the extra Mepps blades ?
  20. Keep us up-dated . I always tried to catch a lot of average sized bass and kickers would just happen .
  21. You will find that spinnerbaits and buzzbaits are pretty snagless . Dont just throw them near cover , throw them in and over it . You can jump logs with both lures . The hook rides up and the long arm on the spinnerbaits helps to deflect snags .Throw the two lures in the same places . Last season, I'm guessing 3/4 of the bass I caught were on those two lures .
  22. I always thought junk fishing was working your way down the bank and just hitting everything .
  23. I'd say you are about 150 .
  24. I fish a lot of the same lures as the rest of the year just s-l-o-w-e-r . I skip top waters .
