  1. So then would that make it a spy bait ? ?
  2. You stick dogs , cats , and horses in the mouths with hooks ?
  3. I use prop baits . These two .
  4. I eat bass , especially in the slot limit lakes . Those slots dont work to grow bigger bass if the anglers dont do their part .
  5. I'll grab the line because I'm in control and can let go in a millisecond .I never grab the line trying to land/net someone else's fish .
  6. I dont fish crappies much anymore but use to do it almost as much as bass fishing . Around April you will find me casting little Beetle Spins in flooded grass .
  7. Every so often I will throw a Strike King Mini Spin and a piece of stick worm the size of a Ned rig will be added , just to give it a little more casting oomph .
  8. When bringing spinnerbaits by cover i like to let them just fade away by slowing down slightly and lowering the rod slightly . I'm not killing the bait and letting it helicopter . That slight change draws a lot of strikes . The blade will flash at a different angle before disappearing , its visible to me . I get the same results when I have to let go of the handle for a second to adjust the trolling motor .
  9. Thats a cool idea . I like it .
  10. While wading for river smallmouths I observed them turn down plastic worms . Move to within an inch then back off . Those same fish then not even hesitate to engulf a plastic craw . I've seen it enough that I use craws , tubes , hula grrubs ...something with appendages all the time now when targeting smallmouths .
  11. So I'm looking through the standings of the bassmaster central open and see Trait Zaldains name and it got me to wondering . What do the ladies do when they have to p . Then that got me wondering what do the guys do . I mean , KVD just cant whip it out with a flotilla following .How do the pros handle this ?
  12. For years I used a Johnson Century 100B in lieu of a spinning reel . These reels allowed you to reverse the spool and they had a switch that would reverse the way the handle turned . I used them upside down on spinning rods . I gave the last two I had away to an older gentleman because thats how he used them and his were worn out .
  13. My worm rod has 17lb clear blue fluorescent Trilene xl . Its .015 inches in diameter . When line watching I like the lines that glow from UV light then disappears under water .
  14. Catch enough two lbers and bigger bass will eventually get hooked .
  15. I just watched a short video with Rick Clunn . He said his entire career he didnt target big bass .I found that kind of surprising . https://video.bassmaster.com/detail/videos/top-videos/video/6004244598001/rick-clunn-on-reinventing-himself-as-an-angler?autoStart=true&fbclid=IwAR3uWxErebLvBVyb3H7ICia_ihCgWG-gfHBp301Ny3y1dxwPkNW4YDpbIes
  16. Good thing you didnt have a marker buoy handy .
  17. LOL I just came from Wal-Mart and bought three bags of 6 inch Tequila sunrise .20 a pack .
  18. Lures go hot and cold , worms never stay cold . The last several years the waters I fish have had a good crankbait , spinnerbait or buzzbait bite going so I have played the hot hand .
  19. Until I learned how to worm fish , I was a pretty poor bass angler .That all changed after I felt that first tap and caught that first fish. All visible cover was then fair game . That evolved to finding off-shore cover and structure fishing . Now , I dont fish the worm as often as I use to but I'm a better crankbait , spinnerbait fisherman because of it .
  20. The water you describe a crankbait does not bounce off the bottom .It is silted in with lots of scummy black debris ,the crankbait digs in and gets covered in the stuff , which you already know . Its horrible bass cover so there is no need for the crankbait to run that deep . Use a shallower diver that doesnt hit the bottom .You may have to hold the rod high .I have fished this type of water a lot and crankbaits work well , just keep it out of the muck and cast at visible cover . Spinnerbaits , buzzbaits and lightly weighted Texas rigs also have worked well for me . I fish irrigation ditches that are filled with fertile bottom-land soil and half digested vegetable matter .
  21. They are small and dont dive as deep , only a quarter ounce .
