  1. Another trait of mine is to use medium size lures and gear . I dont like going small and I dont like going big . About the only time I go big is with deep diving crankkbaits . Thankfully Berkely came up with the Dredger series . I can cast the 25.5 on a med hvy action rod and fish the 20 to 25 foot mark.
  2. I have to fish muddy water or stay home . The lures dont have to be bigger , flashier , noisier ... A little beetle spin will get clobbered . I have these little swim baits with Bill Dances name on it , they have rattling eyes . The lure doesnt have much action and the rattles dont make much noise but the bass come charging at it , even though they cant see it until they are right on it . A 1/8th ounce Rattle Trap is a great lure in muddy to murky water .
  3. Man that sucks. There are no other alternatives ?
  4. Got my team picked . Just need to join the group . A D Cook B J Gustafson C B Lester D G Paquette E B Whatley Theres a site called bass rankings .com that will give tournament results of all these Elite anglers .
  5. The four rod and reel combos I fished with the most last year . Yeah I go cheap and look for bargains 1 rod : Bass Pro Qualifier IM8 purchase as a combo with a pro qualifier reel for 100 dollars . reel Daiwa lexa traded for . 2 rod Shimno Compere 100 dollars . reel Daiwa Lexa trade for . 3 Berkely TGS . clearance 20 dollars . reel Quantum kinetic traded for 4 rod Gander Mountain Lady Guide Series clearance 20 dollars . reel Johnny Morris on sale for 100 dollars .
  6. I fish a little differently than most anglers . I hold the rod in front of the reel with the line between my index finger and thumb . I cant remember ever doing it differently unless its a spinning rod . Its kind of a pain now days because most rods dont have a fore-grip .
  7. Have any of you looked at the Elite schedule? Four times there are only four days between events . Thats nuts . Its going to be difficult to select teams on time .
  8. I remember Doug Hannon making an opposite claim . He said double digit bass prefer long thin lures and used floating minnow baits a lot . Im in neither camp .
  9. I dont know what it is called but I catch a lot of bass by letting the spinnerbait sort of fade away . I'll be reeling by a piece of cover at a steady pace then slowly lower the rod and slow down the retrieve . I'm not killing it , just letting it fade away .
  10. Spinnerbaits and buzzbaits can be fished around the matts and weeds. Frogs and weightlless worms can be fished on top . Senko's , dinger's ... have enough mass to be cast weightless . Lots of lures can be fished in the rocks and drop offs . Should be a good spot for crankbaits , Texas rigs and jigs .

  13. I'm guessing you are fishing from bank . You want to target any cover you find using lures that will go through it with a minimum of hang-ups . All lures have the capability of catching big fish . A fallen tree for example . A buzzbait and spinnerbait are long time favorites for coming through them without snagging . Heck , they can even be climbed right over the trunks . A Texas rig or jig can be fished through the nastiest parts . Describe the water the best you can and the cover in it and the folks here can get very specific on what lures to use .
  14. Spinnerbaits and buzzbaits will always be staples in tackle-boxes . They can be fished in heavy cover and have high hook-up ratios .
  15. Colors are funny . The first time I tried a chartreuse pumpkin jelly worm , I slayed them . Catching one after another . One angler actually trolled out to me and tried to buy some . I have only caught a handful of bass with them since .
  16. Looks like a nice structure lake . There are points with nearby coves . I like to find areas like that start deep and work my way to the back of the cove . Simple as that .
  17. Here in north Missouri I hear about 10 lbers being caught but havent seen one nor even a photo . The biggest I have seen are a few over 8 .
  18. I dont do finesse very well , nor the big stuff . I sort of stick in the middle . I guess if you define finesse as going light , my most productive techniques are small spinnerbaits , and crankbaits .
  19. I think you will fall off the wagon . LOL . I could not stick to limitations like that , not even for one outing .
