  1. I think any soft plastic would be a good choice . If it doesnt work try another . If there are a lot of weeds I would try some weightless varieties . A Yum Swurm or stick worm are smart options .
  2. Texas rig is an excellent choice . Flip , pitch and cast .Do whatever it takes to get the lure where you desire .
  3. We got five inches of snow yesterday .So I restrung and lubed the five bait-casters that I usually fish with . These are the five lures that were tied on those combos from last years final trip . The waters I fished are stained . See a common theme . I like chartreuse in stained water .
  4. Wow , how far will that travel ?
  5. Not only that , a couple of times after the off-shore bite has slowed down on worms or diving cranks , I worked a Red Eye like described and caught the largest fish of the day .
  6. I would love to have one of those to play with . If nothing else it should give some clues regarding light penetration .
  7. Is Grand lake and Grand lake of the Cherokees the same place ?
  8. I use to have a temp/light probe on 50 foot of cable . It gave an instantaneous read out . What was interesting was in the summer, temp. and light would gradually get colder and dimmer until it reached the thermocline , then there would be a rapid decline .
  9. When i'm fishing from a jon boat with an elec motor only , I cant be running from spot to spot . I'll fish my way from spot to spot junk fishing style . Even so a pattern of some sort will usually emerge.
  10. I might start out junk fishing but if I'm successful it usually leads to a pattern . I'd say most of the time I'm fishing a pattern before the day is over .
  11. Thats what I like but the Conservation dept likes to keep that size in the water with a 12 to 15 inch slot in most of the lakes nearby . The slots only work if the anglers do their part .
  12. Dont get discouraged . If you like fishing then good times will come with more experience .
  13. There you go . I put zero thought into it and just use whatever . I have some living rubber material , though my stock is getting low , that I use .A black , brown , blue with a hint of chartreuse works well on buzzbaits .
  14. That top photo is cool looking .. I wouldnt be surprised if its a hybrid . I dont recall catching one mottled like that
  15. Spring time , especially post spawn , the Bomber Long A Minnow . Its a big fish lure . I like the one's with the mirrored insert . I won a fishing derby [ all fish counted ] with two bass weighing **** pounds . Caught back to back 7 lbers one time and my biggest 6 fish limit of all time [ an estimated 30 lbs ] was using them . I havent had much luck the rest of the year on them but spring , they flat out produce .
  16. .97 wally world , 8 foot nylon .
  17. Learn how to fish a Texas rig in heavy cover , then everything else will be simple . Take that 10 lb test off though . I use 17 lb Trilene XL for T-rigs .
  18. I'll add this . If everybody kept their catch that would be detrimental to the fishery . Being most people practice catch and release then the relatively few bass that are being kept is not hurting a bit . I release all bass over four lbs unless they are bleeders . A couple years back , at a small lake , the Missouri Conservation dept implemented a 12 fish , no length limit , to thin out the population. I took full advantage of that . They must have got the population where they wanted because its now back to the slot limit .
  19. With high and presumably muddy water , I'm tempted to replace Grigsby but then he would finish in the top 10 . Every time i change an angler that happens , so I'm sticking with him .
  20. I used a Trick worm on a cool jig head I found to catch river smallmouths . Later I found out those cool jigheads are shakey heads .I just bounced them off the bottom like every other worm .
  21. Shad are a much easier meal than gills but bluegill pattern baits work well around here .
  22. Same here and chrome blue RES works for me too . I like to fish them like a worm out on points .
  23. Bass dont live forever . I harvest several limits a year . I prefer 12 inch bass but they are protected so I am forced to keep 15 inchers or 11 inchers . A limit of 11 inchers wont feed the three of us , so....
  24. The deeper I go the brighter my choice . I like fire tiger and sexy shad a lot on deep baits . Chartreuse Sexy Shad is a color I'm growing fond of . But I stay with what is hot for me . One year I killed it on a Bomber Model A in Baby Bass and used it pretty much every trip .. The perch colored Fat Rap has caught so many fish for me that I have a hard time throwing another color .
  25. A Texas rigged something . Doesnt really matter if its a craw ,lizard , worm ,tube as long as I can bounce it around inside heavy cover I'm confident it will get bit .
