  1. I dont remember that lure but there is a lure called the Buzz Saw . Its an in-line buzzbait with an off-set hook that a lizard could be attached .
  2. Too cold to fish . Tried my luck at a little detecting today . Spent about 20 minutes before it started raining but landed a nice one .
  3. I cut and retie often anyway so , for me , there is no advantage to using a snap . That might change soon . I had retina tears in both eyes last year and now they tell me i have cataracts . I'm going back to retina specialist on wed . I see sparks in my peripheral vision as a result of the tears but they seem to be getting worse .
  4. Sabine river picks are in . My team is loaded with shallow water river rats who have done well here before . I'll probably wind up near the bottom again . I suck at this .
  5. Next up is the Sabine River . I'll have my picks in as soon as they become available . Look at the map of Orange Texas . Canals , backwaters , horseshoe bends... Its going to be a different tourney , thats for sure .
  6. Yep , take what the lake gives . Several guys are kicking themselves .Excellent job , Jordan .
  7. Not only that they have to go through several lock and dams to get here . They are not rare at all . I hate catching them . They are difficult to get the hook out because of all the slime .
  8. Its a barn burner . As exciting as it gets .
  9. I hold the rod in front of the baitcaster with the line running between the index finger and thumb . I do not recommend to use that technique with braid .
  10. I'm going to rephrase what I posted earlier . When you lift the rig with your rod tip ,imagine that there is a state in between tension and slack that you want to keep your line at . Follow the lure down with the rod tip and maintain that state , so it will fall vertically and still maintain contact with the bait .
  11. I just overheard one of the anglers ask a spectator boat if they would stay away from that grass that he intends to fish . They shouldnt have to do that . The angler that is .
  12. I wouldnt think there would be any worms . Earth worms ?
  13. You want the lure to fall vertically . In deeper water you can keep the bail open . On a baitcaster I will strip line off as it is falling . When hopping the rig , dont let it sink on a tight line because it will swing toward you . Leave a little slack in it then follow the the bait with the rod tip . Just enough slack that it falls straight and still be able to feel a tick .
  14. I've caught lots of eels in the Mississippi and tributaries but not one in a reservoir .
  15. I was referring to all lures . Not many bass are going to be caught on a buzzbait here for awhile yet .
  16. It was next to a chemical plant .
  17. I fish a spot that is 100 percent muck and its one of the best places I know . I dont use jigs there but douse texas rigs with a light weight . 1/8th or 3/16th .
  18. If you detect a " tap " as it is falling , reel down , remove most of the slack and set the hook . If you feel a tap as it is being lifted , theres a good chance its a twig or something .
  19. A bad part about tourney fishing is practice . Fishing for fun you go out and catch as many as you can , practice you want to avoid that . I always wanted my cake and eat it too .
  20. I avoid bright colors . Do they scare bass . I cant answer that . I do know , however , that they spook pressured carp .
  21. I've seen lot of creatures sticking out of a basses throat including a mouse tail . Off topic but I saw a bullfrog eat a sparrow.
  22. According to Basstrakk Combs first keeper weighed three ounces .
  23. I dont understand the mind-set of people following the anglers around .There are so many boats following Christie that he can only fish one side of a cove . These people are interfering with the outcome of the event .
