  1. Thats just slightly bigger and deeper than the lake I fish a lot . Theres some big fish in it .
  2. I think that is the best way to get an accurate gauge on knot strength , of course it has to be a well tied knot .
  3. I would tie the palomar also but its not stronger than the trilene unless it has a 110 percent breaking strength . The trilene has been tested and its a 100 percent knot . With mono that is .
  4. Me too and I need to throw them more , especially in summer .
  5. I had a Kawasaki 175 . I would take a two piece spinning rod and a few crappie jigs and make a milk run of places along the Mississippi river . You learn to make do with what little . I caught a lot of fish that way .
  6. It has to be scored , the local fish markets had machines that did it . Commercial fishermen would sell their catch to the markets .It was a thriving business when I was a kid . Theres not many of those old Mississippi river fish markets around anymore . I have ate carp numerous times . I even worked a booth and sold fried sandwiches with tartar sauce at an annual fair . We couldnt keep up with the demand and ran out of fish .We had to go back to the fish market to get more . A local tavern had a weekly fish fry with carp and it was packed every time . People dont eat it much anymore and the fish markets are gone . I enjoy a carp sandwich loaded with tartar sauce and a cold beer . Last year I was driving down a highway in Illinois along the Mississippi river . There was a little fish market/ outside restaurant across from St Louis selling carp sandwiches . It was pretty busy . I stopped and had one . Ive canned it to make carp patties , man thats good stuff .
  7. If I knew how and where to catch gills that size , I would do a heck of a lot less bass fishing .
  8. My dad , uncle and I have ate hundreds of fish from this irrigation ditch which gets all the runoff from farm fields. We all ended up with prostate cancer and we jokingly blame it on all those dam bullheads we ate .
  9. Everythingthatswims , you impress the hell out of me . I still rate that one sonar screen shot you posted as the best I've seen .
  10. I also fish a lake that does not allow foreign boats but electric motors are allowed .I also rigged up a portable depth finder by mounting it on a gutted out old trolling motor . Does this place allow elec motors ? Vertical jigging in thirty foot off water sounds like fun .
  11. Ive never heard of the Berkely Dredger . I'll be sure to give them a try this year . Interesting lures . They have a weight in the lip like the old rebel Double Deep Wee R .I'm not one that has to try a lot of new lures but I'm going to get one in each size , probably all in Fire tiger . lol
  12. I only heard of one of these pros, so I used a random number generator to make my picks .
  13. Seriously , have you ever used that lure ? It looks used .
  14. I bought two of those Bill Norman Triple Wings and they did not have a rivet , instead they had a bead . They did not squeak . A buddy and I were fishing and he was tearing them up on a Lunker lure and I didnt get a strike on the Triple Wing . I finally had to give in and fish a Lunker Lure . I havent used one since , but this winter I have replaced the bead with rivets so I'll give it another shot this season .
  15. I use barbless for carp with good success .
  16. That may very well be true and a bass may perceive red completely different than us but the fact is a red lure , apple or fire truck will only reflect red light if it is being hit by red light .
  17. I caught more fish on lipless cranks this year than ever , the Strike King Red Eyes though .Largemouths , white bass , channel cats , blue cats and drum . Every single fish came from 10 to 20 foot deep along the bottom . Sometimes I would just raise the lure off the bottom and hold it there for a second and lower it slowly , hop it like a worm , rip it or reel it in slowly then kill it . I hope it wasnt just one of those fluke years because it was a whole lot of fun .
  18. This is probably true . I fish them some .Black and Red or Orange is my top color for shallow muddy water . When I say muddy I mean a couple of inches visibility . Why , because I have caught fish with them under those conditions .
  19. Yes and I am not pretending to know how a bass perceives its environment . I have stayed away from that .
  20. Black wouldd be good . Back when buzzbaits all came with flat 40 strand skirts I did well with the black / yellow ones .
  21. Catt , you're the one who keeps bringing eyes and brains into it . The chart I posted has nothing to do with a basses eyes and brain , humans eyes and brain or an aardvarks eyes and brain . Bass could be completely blind but the light waves act the same way . You are making an argument where one does not exist .
  22. The reason I say they are poor is because of the cheap swivel . I let spinnerbaits drop a lot and the blades wont turn with those swivels .
  23. Pink Rattle Trap . Big bass love them .
  24. I would be trying to catch fish not just bass .I would pick a 1/8th ounce yellow marabou jig . I could catch fish on them when I was 8 , I can catch fish on them now .
