  1. LOL yep . I tried lots of hooks and use what works best for me . I want my bait to be extremely snag proof and as straight as possible . For the time being my favorite is the VMC round bend . For me ,its the easiest to rig straight , minimizing that dreaded line twist . The short section at the eye is bent so it points straight at the barb making it easier to get the bait kink-less .
  2. Not a spinnerbait but I got on a bite at Table rock retrieving a chugger slow and steady . It pushed a big wake and gently sashayed . Now there are wake baits intended for that .
  3. I havent done a lot of clear water fishing . when I did almost all my fish have came off bottom bouncers like plastic worms , jigs , tubes and jigging spoons or top waters like buzzbaits , spooks and chuggers .
  4. Wood Crankbaits I drilled a small hole and melted lead solder in it .
  5. I bank fish the Mississippi . I find a rip rap bank in the current , cast cheap spinnerbaits up stream to different depths , let the lure sink . As soon as it touches down pop it up and try to retrieve barely above the rocks. H&H spinners and 1/4 ounce beetle spins work well with this tactic .
  6. Me too .I kept a six lb bass last year because she wasnt going to make it .
  7. Long billed Fire Tiger Flat A's kick butt on Mississippi river wing dams and rip rap .
  8. For fun use a fly rod . Little poppers over the beds is a blast . There are all kinds of sinking flies .I like Honey bees .
  9. I attended the weigh of the Bassmaster amateur qualifying event for the classic several years back at Quincy Illinois . The Mississippi was badly flooded and most anglers were skunked . The winner found a depression on an island , no one came close to him . I use to fish the Mississippi a lot , probably havent in ten years . " Rock" was the pattern most days .
  10. Is there rip rap along the bridge ?
  11. I dont use red on my jigs or soft plastics unless the water is "muuuddy" . Theres something about the color red that sunfish wont leave alone . They will rat-a-tat-tat a few strands of red but leave other colors alone . Red fire tail trailers, blue gills will drive me nuts .
  12. 1 Dad , hes still alive but in a nursing home 2 I dont know. 3 There are bass deeper than 10 foot
  13. Points are classic bass structure . Are you fishing from a boat or bank and is this a long extended point or a short stubby point ?Bridges are good too . I wouldnt worry to much about the best soft plastics your favorites will work fine . Tell us more about the point and the bridge .
  14. The internet . Boating around the lake . Driving around the lake . Flying over the lake . Asking others .
  15. Saved a lot of money . I must be getting ripped off . I think my last pair of glasses were close to 500 dollars .
  16. There are times where eyes seem to get more hits , like in cold water . I take plain jig heads and add eyes with black and white fingernail polish .
  17. For a fisherman that needs corrective lens , this might be the answer . I'm going to look into them . http://www.transitions.com/en-us/why-transitions/the-technology/variable-polarization/
  18. This ^^ The most important moment in my "bass" fishing life is when I caught my first bass on a Texas rig . I was trying to mimic a jig and pig another angler was having success on . My rig included a bullet weight black spinnerbait skirt and a black double tail Mister Twister grub . I was lifting and dropping it in rip rap , felt the tic , reeled down and set the hook . From that moment on I was a much better angler .
  19. Theres not a best , only favorites . I havent found one I didnt like , even the old Renegades Wal-Mart brand caught the heck out of them , especially smallmouths . Guido Bugs , Riverside Big Claws too . My all time favorite is Larews Salt Craw simply because I have used them the most .
  20. There is probably always a best color , in my opinion anyhow. Its just counter-productive to go through all of them . A person might catch 25 fish on watermelon but maybe black grape would have caught 30 . So we fish what we have confidence in .
  21. I tried an alabama rig one time . I was already catching a lot fish { almost every cast ] on a point in about 10 to 15 foot . Thinking this would be a good time to use it I tied it on , let it sink to the bottom and made a dozen or so cast with it . Didnt get a strike and havent used it since . No doubt from all the reports they are good baits . I'll try it again some day .
  22. Aldis has turkey sticks that are excellent. They cannot keep them on the shelves here . There will be boxes of beef sticks , mostly untouched and the turkey boxes will be empty .
  23. I'm not following either .Your personal best is listed 7 to 8 lbs and you lost a fish that was easily your personal best . I would ask why I lost that fish . A poor hookset , trying to horse them in ... I have lost a few big bass by trying to bring them in to quickly , especially on treble hook lures . Did the bass throw the lure ? Sometimes fish just get come unhooked .
  24. Were you catching fish ?
  25. I forgot to mention Veenie Weenies The chances are good that theres a can or two still in my boat from last season .
