  1. Poppers have come a long way. I still use a big black Pico Pop but its saved for special occasions. The Pico Pop doesnt walk but it spits water like mad. In the summer on sunny , windy days I throw it in standing timber and make as much noise with it as I can. This is a numbers technique . but will catch keepers around the right trees .
  2. Ive only fished one sunken bridge but caught a lot of fish on it until it become a community hole .I marked it with buoys and used texas rig worms . It was about fifteen foot deep at normal pool .One of those places that a limit could be pulled off of in 6 cast .
  3. A lure that will fish from top to bottom , relatively snagless and work year round . Spinnerbait . If need be I can rig one snagless .
  4. I use Texas rigs a lot more than jigs. I have confidence in jigs all right its just that I really like Texas rigs .
  5. No swivel. I use a trilene knot tied to the split ring. I put the knot inside that little groove on the split ring .
  6. Follow the gulls . The gulls know where the whites bust shad . If the gulls are actively feeding then so are the whites. If they are sitting on the water or shore they are waiting. Gulls send out scouts and when one sees the whites busting it will alert the flock . I always see the gulls on flats , thats where the whites are . The channel and blue cats will be under them .
  7. I remember watching a Roland Martin show where he was catching bass on a "carp and gar" pattern. He targets areas where these fish are visible ..
  8. Bass must taste different in other locales. The ones I catch have flaky white meat and are very mild. "Everybody" who has tried my bass fillets absolutely loved them . Even the people who said they dont like bass . Heck , even the ones who say they dont like fish .
  9. Good tip . I need to remember that one .
  10. I love fishing rip rap , its one of the most consistent producers I have found. Dont underestimate a texas rig hopped from shallow to deep. You will get caught between rocks , so you really have to pay attention when the lure touches down and get it back up in a hurry. I've always wondered how a mojo weight would work there. I have some but never tried them.
  11. I actually hooked a big bass that was below some carp. I was going to try too snag one . I threw a Bomber Long A and started ripping it through them when the bass hit .
  12. Weightless worms are the only thing I use when having too fish snotty moss . I use an oversized heavy flipping style hook to help cast a little farther . The discontinued Riverside Top Gun slides over top of it pretty well. The new Yum Swurm might be the same thing .
  13. Im always thrilled to hook into one .
  14. If Im fishing from bank I will walk the line out in the grass then reel it in .
  15. My five biggest weighed in was about 15 lbs two days in a row, Enough to win . My five biggest in one day would be 25 to 30 lbs . Mark Twain lake in north Missouri .
  16. Bass are good. Especially 12 inchers . Bluegills are delicious. Around here drum are called white perch. They are pretty poor. Channel cats are decent .
  17. I never use a trailer except for a trailer hook .Ive tried them but didnt notice any benefit .
  18. Lures are made appealing to fisherman but meant to catch fish. I had some terminator spinnerbaits that were not balanced and came in spinning in circles. Had several Rebel Deep Wee R's that had no action but when I get a good one its real good. Same thing with the old Manns razorback Hogs .I have two Bomber Speed Shads, neither work . I cannot get them tuned and they run way off one direction , not searching like they are famous for .
  19. I thought everybody did it . Are you referring too medium baitcasting equipment ?
  20. If you're getting into spinnerbaits and want some for every situation , those S K rocket shads are great for fast current and deep water .
  21. Lots of good lures mentioned. I fish a silted in ox bow lake protected by a leevee. The Bagleys Honey Bee catches a lot fish there and big ones .
  22. I started pegging a couple of years ago . I stopped doing it. I dont catch as many fish pegged for whatever reason . You live you learn .
  23. I use inexpensive VMC round bend or inexpensive mustad round bend. The only time I use something different is when the bait needs a short shank to keep the trebles from tangling together . Inexpensive doesnt mean cheap. They are good hooks .
