  1. A Carolina Skiff would be an awesome bass boat.
  2. What a great photo. Hes not holding it straight out to create an optical illusion.
  3. Flea markets. The crankbaits I want are not found in a store.
  4. Yes, I have done a lot of it . I use a Texas jig no skirt and half of a Wave Tiki Stick. Color hasnt made much difference for me. Ive had 100 fish days just casting it out and slowly reeling it back. I use the hook exposed unless I come upon a log , then simply texas rig it . Its much like Charlie Brewer Slider fishing .
  5. You already know what hasnt worked . Thats a good start .
  6. I googled Meanmouth , its a hybrid. I remember reading about them in Bassmaster decades back. There was talk of raising them in a fishery and stocking them.
  7. Keeping a log has always interested me but I never did it. I sure would like to look back now and have some hard numbers on the fish I caught.
  8. I fished Bull Shoals once. Had a fantastic week. Beautiful country you live at . You are lucky to have a lot of great places to fish. The wife and I were discussing where we would like to retire too and Bull Shoals was top of my list. I may be your neighbor some day. The week I spent there , we caught lots of small mouths on tubes with 1/4 ounce jig heads 30 foot deep .
  9. I do a lot of carp and catfishing and use old flipping rods with retired baitcasters .
  10. OP is talking about eating bass out of a stunted farm pond . Theres a lot of lakes in the country where bass harvest is encouraged to improve the population.
  11. ^^ Exactly . You are much better at making a point than me .
  12. I use Mustad round bends and VMC round bends. They are inexpensive . Sharpening trebels is difficult . I do it sometimes. I take the diamond file on a leatherman , and lay two barbs of the trebel flat against it. Then gently apply pressure with two fingers and work back and forth. I repeat until all the barbs are worked over. Then I replace them with mustad round bends or VMC round bends
  13. When I saw him , he was vertically jigging a dropshot about fifty foot deep and watching the bass and his lure on a depth finder. I just thought that was cool and wish the camera would have stayed on the depth finder longer .
  14. I've seen a lot of things in local tournaments. I had a hot streak for two years and a very recognizable boat. The last tournament I ever fished two competitor boats were barreling down the lake stopped and helped me fish my marker buoys .
  15. Nothing like a good case of bass thumb .
  16. Another thing about small bass. They are easy to fillet .
  17. I picked Paul Elias and I'm sticking with him. Wait til next tourney .
  18. ^^ Crappie and perch , yeah but white bass ? I dont rate whites that high. That red line is awful and takes a lot of work to remove it .
  19. I like both Elite and XL. I have used 12 lb xl on my baitcasters exclusively for three years now. Ive been fishing out of small boats and canoes and just cant bring a dozen rods along. I have yet to break off a fish and have caught some big ones in thick cover. Matter of fact I have been landing a much larger percentage of big fish with 12 lb xl than I ever did with 15 lb big game , because I resist the urge to horse them in . I dont recall losing a big bass in the past three years.
  20. I would have liked to have been on the boat with Takahiro . His method of catching fish got my attention .
  21. Even though I used baitcasters, for years i did not use spinning reels. Instead I used Johnson Centuries , upside down on spinning rods with the spool retrieve switch reversed. Its the only reel I know of that would do this.
  22. Yeah its wood. The paint has cracked some from age .
  23. Pico Pop or Rebel chugger {Big Pop R dont know the correct name ] reeled slowly and steadily under the surface will push a wake in front of it. My largest spotted bass was caught on a chugger fished this way .
  24. How big of a river ? I know the Mississippi river islands have long points on the downstream side. I have fished them a couple of times for bass and didnt catch a single one , but I think the bass should be there. Especially if you can find a washed up tree. There is always a deep hole on the downstream side of trees. Always .The longer the tree has been there the deeper the hole.
