Discontinued Plastic QUIZ
I guess this one was tougher than I thought. The old worm I posted is Lazy Ike's Wigly Crawler.

site performance
Slowness at times also here. Whenever it happens, I notice in the lower left part of my browser it always shows something about "googlesyndication" as part of the website in the "Opening Page" info. What is this "googlesysdication" stuff all about almost everytime I go from one page to another?

Discontinued Plastic QUIZ
Ding, Ding, we're half way there. The company is LAZY IKE, now... what's the worm's name? I was going to answer AKFrezy7 that he was getting on the right track because in 1978 the Creek Chub Bait Co. was sold to the Lazy Ike Corporation, but Muddy got the company faster than my fingers could type.

Discontinued Plastic QUIZ
Don't know anything about Netcraft or Janns, so I don't know about that. And it's in the northeast section of the garage, second rubbermaid tote from the bottom. Don't have the exact GPS coordinates... I know, I know... the garage is a mess. :-?

Discontinued Plastic QUIZ
No, its not made by Creme. Here is a hint, the company was purchased by Pradco, and I think only offers 2 lures anymore from the old company. ( The only pic I can find on the web is a cover shot showing many lures from the company's 1963 Catalog. But the worm is so small in the cover pic that you can't really quess the worm from it)

Lucky Craft Live Pointer
I have pretty good luck with them in colder water. It's the first suspending jerkbait I throw after iceout. Don't have much luck with them after that though.

Discontinued Plastic QUIZ
I didn't want to hijack the other lure quiz thread. It appears the other one seems to be mostly hardbaits, and I thought one dedicated to discontinued plastics would be interesting. So post some pics of your DISCONTINUED PLASTICS in this quiz. Ideally, they should be types that many of the members might remember, not totally obscure ones. You don't have to answer the prior one in order to post a new one, but it would be best when guessing one to also include the username in your guess, because it might get a little confusing if several pics are posted in order. Might bring back some fond memories. Here is something from my collection. I looked all over the web, but couldn't find a pic, so I took one from my stash. I still use them when I want to fish a plastic that I know the bass haven't seen. You might have to belong to Team Depends to get this one.

Any Bass Clubs Near Philly (PA)
Towmotor, welcome to BassResource. I live near Blue Mountain Ski Resort, (near Palmerton) on the south side foothills of the Blue Mountain. Check out the link below (and also look at the surrounding counties) for some lakes with boat access in your area. Choose a couple and get back to me, and I'll let you know if I'm familiar with them. Maybe we can hit a few some time. http://www.fish.state.pa.us/water/county/pfbcmaps/00nemenu.htm#carb

Bassresource Northeast tournament...has it been done before??
I've fished Mauch Chunk for many years. I would tend to agree with hjerk24 that it is not a lake I would recommend for a tournament. But I believe the deal at Mauch Chunk is more of a get-together, for fellowship, good natured ribbing, and catching a few in-between... not a tournament. It is under the big bass lake program in PA, and the minimum size for keeping bass is 15 (and only a limit of 4), so you tend to catch more in the 10-14 range. Being electric-only, it is a good lake for those with smaller boats powered only with a trolling motor, or even just oars. And I have no problem fishing it with my 18.5ft Fish-n-Ski. On average, I'll catch about 7-10 bass in a 4 hour period, but maybe only one will be over the 15 minimum. And I've found on the days when its tough, and you get skunked, the night bite will be awesome. If you're looking to hold a northeast tournament, go with hjerk24's recommendations, but if you're looking for just a friendly get-together, Mauch Chunk is a pretty good choice (but no alcohol allowed to be consumed in the park). Also, if some want a larger lake (unlimited HP) to tackle while there, Beltzville Lake is only about 15 minutes away. You'll catch more smallmouth there than largemouth, but that lake is feast or famine in my opinion. We locals affectionately refer to it as the Dead Sea. It's also got stripers, walleye, musky, perch, cats, trout, and a few others.

Music While You Fish?
I've always been a little partial to Ride of the Valkyries blaring out the Fis'n'Ski's CD player, screaming down the lake during duck season, dodging buckshot.

Bass Survey
Hope it took. Lost my internet connection right after I pressed Done. I Put some notes in where allowed. I was a club tourney director for around 7 years and kept statistics on tournament bass mortality. Ours was less than 1.5%. I've found over the years mortality occurred mostly when a malfunctioning livewell was involved.

Why I don't like Ike
I admire what Ike has accomplished through bass fishing, his work with youth, and his willingness to share his knowledge. He is one smart businessman and an interesting celebrity. And I think he has done more to bring youth into the sport of fishing than any other professional angler on the circuit. I also don't relish some of his on-camera antics, but I always thought it was a generation gap sort of thing. Awhile ago I started to wonder why I never gave much thought to similar antics by other athletes, only when it applies to pro bass fisherman. Right or wrong, I've come to realize what really bothers me about some of his (and others) public over-the-top conduct. Here is it: I've had problems while fishing, with some dock and property owners on public waters. Some feel they own the public lake. I've always found that acting humble and courteous usually will stem their anger. Somehow I look at Ike's type of antics as what these property owners need to sway public opinion to their cause, and to put more restrictions on bass fishermen angling in public waters. Now if my thought process is wrong (and it probably is), then I say go Ike... Be yourself! No matter what, he does do a lot of good for the sport! And you can't deny that he's one heck of an angler.

For all that posted that the coming RECESSION, was not going to happen
Muddy, you're right about the cost of milk. Milk prices are up 36% from last winter. We won't drill for offshore oil, or in Alaska, or the oil sands in mid-America. We won't build new refineries. We won't convert coal to diesel with a consumer sales price of $1 per gallon with a process that is safe and will not damage the environment. Yet we create a nationwide increase in demand for the corn-based fuel additive ethanol that has led to markups on cattle feed and is partly to blame for the price spike. It's all relative.

Please post you Charlie Moore stories here..good or bad...
I've had public and private discourse with C. Moore back in 2006 originating from a particular challenge he initiated on a show. I got a lesson back then about television and entertainment. I can sum it up by saying some people never confuse their right to do something with doing the right thing.

Crazy Sandwiches...
When in a hurry... Italian white bread and Heinz Ketchup. When the garden vegies are ripe... Italian white bread, butter, and covered with fresh slices of Hungarian wax peppers (seeds removed). Okay, Scrapple... I know it well, lived 18 years where it was a staple. Family friend's butcher shop made it. Something better enjoyed without knowing too much. (Ignorance is bliss). One of my favorite descriptions (from scrapple musings) on how to make old-fashioned homemade scrapple (not for the weak of stomach): "First, we begin with the head of a pig (fresh is always preferable to frozen). Exactly which parts of a pig's head are included in Scrapple depends somewhat on regional preference. "To begin, the head should be cut in half, or even quartered. (The ears make for convenient handles while sawing the skull.) While an axe or cleaver can be used to split the head, a saw is preferable in that it produces no bone fragments. "Once the head is sectioned, some people remove the brains. Some remove the teethbashing them off with a cleaver. Yet others remove the eyes. The most nutritious scrapple contains the entire head! That said, however, special care should be taken to remove the ear drums. Left in place, they contribute a distinctively bitter taste to the Scrapple, which while popular in Pittsburgh, is generally disliked elsewhere. "Next, all desirous head and non-head matter, including heart, feet and tail, are cooked in a pot with just enough water to cover. During cooking, meat loosens from bone and the skin, ears, rooter and nearly all head gristle softens. The resulting broth harbors an explosion of nutritional goodness! "Bones and loosened meaty matter are strained from the broth, which should be set aside. When the meat has cooled, pick through it, removing bones and hard gristle. Grind up the skin and soft gristle, rooter and so on. Recombine the ground meats with all but about a cup of the strained broth. For each two cups of broth reunited with meat, add one cup cereal (cornmeal) to thicken. Bring to a slow boil, stirring all the time. Add salt, black pepper, red pepper, sage, onion powder, and if you're feeling adventurous, some bacon bits. "Continue stirring until it arrives at the consistency of porridge. Pour into loaf pans and cool. The Scrapple is finished!"

ebay "sniping"
I hope you guys are right, and it is just a glitch on ebay's part. Don't shoot the messenger. But I won't take a chance the next time I really want something, just in case. I'll ignore the max thing, and put in a bid more than what I think a sniper will, at the last seconds of the auction. Honestly, it didn't make any sense to me either, that's why I contacted them, and had them track my bidding history for the auction. Maybe the rep didn't know what she was talking about, but she did confirm my max bid, and said I lost out to a lower bid (lower than my max bid) because of the sniping process.

Sure things about bass fishing!
The one thing I know for sure is the bass are really biting while I sit here typing this on BassResource.

ebay "sniping"
Funny you should say that, because that is exactly what I did. I increased my max bid with a few minutes to go in the auction. I didn't want to take the chance of being outbid. The problem is, being "sniped" with only 1-2 seconds to go in the auction, ebay software does not have time to look at max bids. I was slow at picking the explanation up from ebay. I kept saying (numbers are different but you get the picture), how can a $30 bid win out against a my max bid of $50 that I had in. It took her about 5 times to get it through my head that it is the very short time left in the auction that the bid (sniping) was made that doesn't allow the ebay software to compute for a max bid process.

Interview with Mike Iaconelli
Really good interview. Enjoyed it. So Glenn, do you think you can get more Pro's to give these type of candid and informative interviews? Questions can be tailored to things unique to the individual pros.

ebay "sniping"
I think I might not have explained my complaint about sniping on ebay correctly in my original post. Putting in bids at the last second, I have no problem with. I do have a problem with the fact that ebay software will not look to see if there are any automatic MAX bids that are higher than the snipers bid, when there are only a few seconds to go in the auction. Also, ebay told me I cannot outbid myself. So if I am the current highest bidder, and I think the auction might be sniped, I cannot put in another bid, because you cannot outbid yourself. Here was basically the way I explained it through the online help section, talking to Joyce from ebay. I placed a max bid of $50.00 on an auction, with 12 hours to go. The current bid from someone else is $20.00. ebay acknowledges my high bid of $50.00, and I now become the highest bidder at $20.50 ($.50 increments needed). I remain the highest bidder until the very end, well with at least 1-2 seconds to go. The sniper places a bid of $21.00 (which is $.50 higher than the highest bid with 1-2 seconds to go), and the sniper is the winner of the auction at $21.00, even though I had a max bid of $50.00. My max bid of $50.00, means nothing, because with only 1-2 seconds left in the auction, the ebay software does not have enough time to look and calculate any automatic bids, so my max bid of $50.00 does not come into play (because the auction is sniped with only 1-2 seconds left in the auction). So the sniper just ripped off the seller by as much as $29.00 ($50.00 the max amount I was willing to pay, less the winning bid of $21.00) - not really that much, but in theory correct. She also told me I would not have been able to snipe the auction myself at the last second - if I felt the auction might be sniped, because I was the current highest bidder, and you cannot outbid yourself. I asked her that basically: 1) If someone has a sniping program, your automatic max bid means nothing, and 2) if you think the auction might be sniped, do not be the highest bidder near the end of the auction. She said yup. She also said the "snipers" tend to pay within seconds of the auction end, so the seller does not have chance to hit the second chance button. She told me they will not accept my displeasure with the process as a complaint, but I could submit it as an unsolicited suggestion. Bottom line is, it's the automatic max bid process that is flawed. :-X
