Latest Tackle Purchase Thread (Bait Monkey Victim Support Group)
you should get some of those owner deep throat hooks next time you order from him, i really like them. Those new DockRocker jigs he has are nice. good looking work there.

Daiwa Tatula Xt
Here's 1 comparison: that rod keeper on the XT looks to be in a good spot, the rod keeper on the regular Tat is the worst placement i can imagine. Gets line caught on it more than all my other rods ever have combined. I went as far as to pinch it down to try and reduce the problem and then put a fuji keeper on it. Sorry, that's the only "help" i can be!

Winter Fishing, Store The Boat Or Brave The Cold
fished plenty of cold weather on lake norman from the kayak, it's better than during summer with all the pleasure boaters. oddly enough, everytime i fished mountain island lake in cold weather it would be somewhat crowded. of course a lot of that is duck boats flying around, but still plenty of guys fishing there in cold weather. BUT if i lived in texas, no doubt it would be year round for me there as well (i'm still fishing year round here in GA)

Anybody On Allatoona Lately?
It's a tough lake for me. I haven't done well there at all. Though I did hook a fat spot ~4lb and it spit my dropshot roboworm right at the kayak a couple few trips back. I just wish there were some largemouth to target. I mean I don't think I've caught one in there yet. All smaller spots. Got these tied on in anticipation: 3/16oz Jig head with curly grub 3/8oz Spinnerbait 1/16 head Wacky senko Pop X popper Naked rage blade with fluke Jr. If you can't catch one on those.... My buddy would say "there's no fish in this pond"

Anybody On Allatoona Lately?
Buddy and I are going to hit it on Sunday in the yaks and I haven't been there in a couple of months and even that was at night. Probably launch from the campground on Kellogg Creek. Just curious if anybody had any info on the current activity? Looking to tangle with some feisty little spots.... Thanks!

Finesse Fishing From Banks???
No experience on the rod in question, but finesse fishing from shore is absolutely a possibility. all depends on your water, cover, etc. but i use light line, small lures a lot when fishing 2 small ponds near my house from shore.

Seibert Outdoors
From time to time he runs a BR member discount, but there isn't one currently as far as I'm aware. You can always contact Mike and ask him directly about any work arounds (go to the Contact Us on his site). He's usually very quick to respond.

Bass Pro Shops Vs. Walmart
not to say that individual stores can't ask for particular assortments of products, but an individual store cannot just start carrying brand X or item X without it first being approved/negotiated/etc. at a corporate level. There is a huge shift right now in retail from carrying items/assortments based on experiences/habits of buyers/regional managers and store managers to now making those decisions solely based on analytics and SKU rationalization.

Bass Pro Shops Vs. Walmart
I've been in HQ Sales and Retail for a while and the point that is missed here is that the individual stores have little or no say over what they carry. Buying decisions for Walmart are made in Bentonville, AR and BPS from Springfield, MO. Regional leaders can influence the decisions to some degree, but ultimately it all comes down to a decision made at the HQ level. It all boils down to shelf space, product turns/inventory and brand. Both of these retailers are hit or miss for me. In my area, I prefer Dick's Sporting Goods or whenever I come across them, ACADEMY (hard to beat these guys). Funny side note, go to a K Mart (yes they still exist) in South Florida. I was blown away at the amount of fishing stuff they had there. And good selections too!

Buzz Bait/spinner Questions?
You can take some small diameter heat shrink tubing and slide over the half circle and then heat and shrink. This will cover that up and keep your bait from sliding. BUT it may also pick up a little more grass and such on the spinnerbait. also, what kind of knot are you tying? if i cinch down a palomar knot pretty good, it's not going anywhere.

Budget Bassin
i like the small rapala floaters as well as the panther martin spinners as far as multi-species baits go
