    nice freakin' fish!
  2. i'm no salt fisher, but the spoon and that pop-r would be my first options. and i know most folks suggested a bucktail jig as an all around surf lure. you can find some for fairly cheap too.
  3. Southern bass prefer the Ketchup Clips....
  4. have a ride 135 myself and it's hard to get it to even come close to flipping over... hopefully i never experience such an event! congrats on the new toy and my advice is to just slowly rig it the way you want it. don't stick something on it that you'll later regret.
  5. Go cheap on all but the PFD. Get a very comfortable one that you will wear every time. i have an inflatable Onyx that is great, can wear it all day without a problem.
  6. 3/8 PB&J jig 4" senko wacky rig green pumpkin 3/8 spinnerbait white SK 1.5 olive shad drop shot roboworm morning dawn
  7. no thanks....
  8. oh and meant to say, i was down there early May this year and the Tarpon were on like Donkey Kong. Also went a good ways out and got on some Mahi, but i really preferred that backcountry fishing myself!
  9. check out kevin with knee deep charters. my boss has a house there in key west and while i've never used kevin, he lives in the same canal as my boss. He is a great guy and knows EVERYTHING there is to know about the fishing scene down there. Each time i've been there, he comes over and gives us the full scoop on locations, baits, etc.
  10. Best lesson you can teach them is that there will be days when you cannot buy a bite... otherwise, look at the seasonal fishing articles on this site as a good basis.
  11. best of luck today!
  12. Recently got a spool of sunline and it's great! Use invisx too but next time I buy it will be sunline
  13. i like alternating blades one gold, one silver white or white/chartreuse usually for the skirt
  14. i too would use the revo for cranking. i crank with 30lb braid no problems, can add a leader of the p line if you feel inclined to do so, but will be fine with straight braid. just have to be in tune with your drag a bit more than with other lines...
  15. from the way you're talking, you obviously wouldn't want to pay to replace it so i'd say treat it as such. i baby my rods for the most part, especially the higher end combos.
  16. when i go a few trips in the winter without a catch, i just tell people they're hibernating....
  17. no, but saw an online ad for them yesterday. my question in my head was about the hookset? if the leader comes loose from the bait how can you ensure a solid hookset?
  18. they're mostly all the same, but i found that the rod sox version for spinning rods is just too heavy for some of my lighter rods.
  19. you will find that any kayak will give you trouble in winds over 10mph, at least that's been my experience. above 10mph you have to anchor out to have much of a chance in holding your position. i have a ride 135 and it does great for me, but will still give me trouble in stronger winds. This is just the nature of the beast.
  20. I have a pretty new to me and mostly new Shimano Sahara 1000 that is giving me a little bit of a problem. Starting Saturday and continuing yesterday, the reel feels like it's seizing up on me as i'm reeling it in. It gets really hard to turn and then after some umph it turns and keeps on going with no issue until it happens again. Is there something i can do to try and remedy this on my own (i'm a mechanical idiot, so can't get too far into taking this thing apart). Should i just go ahead and send to DVT and have a pro do their thing? Thanks!
  21. it's not really a genius mod by any means, but often overlooked.... i like to take the skirts off of some baits like spinnerbaits and buzzbaits and replace with my favorite soft plastics
  22. bass might not mind, but you didn't look like the happiest camper! it wasn't much warmer here in GA. nice fish hootie!
