  1. ok, so maybe my assumptions of increased gut hooked fish are off base??
  2. very cool work there. i really like that 2nd crankbait a lot and the jerk bait is a very cool color as well. airbrushing your own baits just looks like a ton of fun!
  3. I just haven't fish a wacky rig senko very much and want to start doing more of it. Seems like there are a million opinions for the type of hook to use so i'll spare you all that discussion. My bigger question being this, do you maybe use barbless hooks or smash down the barbs on your hooks when fishing wacky style? i'm just assuming a greater rate of fish taking the bait deep so i'm thinking barbless would be easier to get the hooks out should they do so... just looking for opinions or experiences on the matter. thanks.
  4. royals are just looking dominant right now.... i'd like to see them win it.... for some reason i have this really vivid memory of seeing the royals stadium on a road trip to montana as a kid. not sure why, but i just remember eating at a diner and the view outside was of the baseball stadium. odd thing i know, but just how this brain of mine works. good luck to your boys.... in any event i just want the cardinals to lose.... i'm just a hater.
  5. i would advise against spending a ton of money to acquire every bait and every technique.... i found that i didn't fish half the stuff that i bought, and would have been better served to re-invest that into the techniques i preferred to fish....
  6. i have 7 rigged right now for a trip on thursday, but a couple of them will change baits after the sun comes up and the topwater dies or slows down. terminator t1 spinnerbait river2sea s rover topwater bait LC moonsault crankbait cavitron buzzbait siebert mata dredge jig wacky rig senko t rigged rage tail anaconda these are pretty consistent set ups, but do change from time to time or seasonally
  7. nice pics clayton
  8. like jfrancho, i've broken 2 rods this year. both from my own idiotic doing. neither of which were ducketts. i think the user comes into play with rod breakage much more so than the components of the product.
  9. if i can ever get my wife to go, there is no competitive talk..... if and when she outfishes me, i let her talk as much trash as she would like.... i find it helps her come back out the next time. she doesn't often go, but instead uses that time when i fish to do whatever she wants to for herself... it's a pretty good trade off
  10. best of luck!
  11. man pics are hard to go by.... from those pics of him holding the fish, i would have never guessed 17 pounds!!
  12. awesome fish! that's a sweet looking jig combo too, i'd eat it....
  13. texas rigged plastic perhaps. maybe a frog. would also help to know what type of cover you're getting snagged in/on? is it wood, grass, brush, etc.?
  14. did you try any of the suggestions you received? have you done any experimenting with identical lures, but in different sizes to see if there is a difference? my logic is to typically always downsize when fishing the rivers near me
  15. i don't even own a boat, but do the same. i definitely scrutinize a kayak with some fishing rods too.... one day i was riding on 285 here in Atlanta and saw Casey Ashley pulling his boat... it was early on a Sunday morning so i start doing the same thinking you're describing and thinking why here and not on the lake.... got home and looked it up to see that he missed the cut for the tournament he was fishing. so yeah i'd say i do the same thing as you to some degree
  16. glad everybody was ok
  17. everyone starts somewhere.... be proud of your accomplishments man! nice fishing!
  18. iabass is right on. I prefer a straight work hook myself but both will catch fish. And he's right about straight shanks tearing up the plastics a little more.
  19. I have better luck with a pop pop pop sit technique than I do walking the dog with a popper. I prefer them in heavier cover. Read up more in buzz baits and chatter baits they are two entirely different animals.
  20. welcome from right down the road...
  21. looks like the closing ceremony from beijing '08 never ended
