  1. odd looking contraptions made out of pvc.... doesn't have to be pretty or even make sense, the fish will relate to it. the drums would be a good idea if you cut it so that both ends are open, then stake it down or hold it down with a block. that way the fish can swim through it. i don't know about the milk crates though.... seems like it would take a lot of them and would require you cutting them up, would likely look like trash to most people. the usual old christmas tree plan works well....
  2. nice, my dad's had his cabinet shop nearly 30 years, my brother works for him now. you ever fish around high falls lake much? not too terribly far from you i don't think. just wondering if you've ever had much luck out there. i've never caught very many fish period, but the few i've caught were quality.
  3. what's up tater, welcome and GO HEELS....
  4. small in comparison to most here.... 5lb6oz on a baby bass pop-r released about a year ago
  5. planned mine right down to the T man.... decided i wanted to catch it at 8:48AM, had already decided i wanted to catch it on a bass color pop-r. after a little internal debate and a rather heated argument with my dog, i concluded i would catch it on the 151st cast that morning. also, last minute decision had me opt for this one particular spot in between two bushes in about 7 feet of water much do the dog's dismay, but the rest is history....
  6. i had a regular action, but returned it for a fast action before i ever threw it so i cannot really comment on it. but i really like the fast version that i have for throwing jigs and worms, love these rods.
  7. ask mike, he will help you a ton! i really like those mata series dredge brush jigs. whatever you do, just get the wire ties, a little extra but worth it. get a couple of swim jigs as well, they're great. lastly, i would try to get a finesse jig or two if that's your thing. i think watermelon meat or something like that was one for me and the PBJ smoke color is money too... seriously though email mike, he's quick to respond and super helpful.
  8. typically for me it's a senko, t rig trick worm or a jig.... really all depends on which of those set ups is closest or handy to throw.... have had the best luck getting that second strike with the t rig trick worm...
  9. i am laughing out loud, but almost crying in pain at the same time.... odd how some people react to things in a totally different manner than others.....
  10. dude you sound like you've got more experience with poison leaves than i care to even imagine!! not sure if it is effective at all, but as a kid I know people swore up and down that an oatmeal bath was good for soothing the symptoms, but i don't think it does anything to actually combat the poison. i know i can say from experience than poison oak and ivy are rough, but they are literally nothing compared to shingles..... god knows i would not wish shingles on my most mortal enemy!! just remember, somebody always has it worse! good luck
  11. spinnerbait, t-rig worms and either a pop-r or a buzzbait. those pretty much cover all the areas of the water column that i'll be fishing from the bank.
  12. i carried a 10' and once carried a 12' kayak on top of my toyota camry. i didn't even have a rack system, just 2 foam blocks to sit the kayak on. did this many times for relatively far distances (4+ hour drives) with no problems whatsoever. i once had an inflatable boat, having since owned a kayak, i would never get an inflatable again. just too much work to set up and take down.
  13. went yesterday and only caught one fish, pickerel at that. buddy of mine caught one 2 pounder. of the 6 other guys fishing this smaller lake, none of them said they had a strike to speak of. i did have one blow up on my frog, but the pads were so thick all the fish got was veggies....
  14. been using 50# PP on 2 set ups for a while now with no issues. using the palomar knot. can't be of much help, but don't think it would be the line, just based on my experience with it.
  15. i was surprised a while back when i looked up crawfish species of middle GA and found that about 7 of the top 10 species were white/gray in color. that prompted me to mix in some white into the most recent order of jigs from siebert. have one tied on to throw tomorrow as a matter of fact.
  16. as a broncos fan, i think if we can get through the first 6 weeks 4-2 we can finish out the season somewhere around 14-2 or 13-3 but i just really hope they beat the seahawks this weekend.....
  17. i've done it before with no issues.... not to say it's the accepted method, but it worked for me.
  18. i would agree with you on the biggest ones (football, baseball, basketball, racing, hockey, golf) but when bowling, women's golf and swimming are that high on the list it somewhat balances the argument.... i think the challenge fishing will ALWAYS have versus those other sports listed is that a certain percentage of the population will always see fishing as cruel and unusual punishment, thus reducing it's popularity. all that said though, i hope the populartiy decreases a little bit...... some of these lakes i'm fishing are so crowded it wouldn't hurt to thin the herd.
  19. you can be certain that somebody owns the land..... that has to have a sign to keep me out mentality will get you seriously injured in some places.... just curious if you guys have a no trespassing sign on your yard on your house? but i'm sure you don't expect to come home and find someone using your grill or patio set or swinging on your kids playset right? just respect other's boundaries and property OP and try to find the land owner for permission BEFORE you fish it.
  20. not to say that fishing isn't big..... but it's not golf. golf has 4 days/week of tv broadcasting and commands TONS of money in sponsorship. just to put things in perspective, see the official poll on these matters..... yes fishing ranks behind women's everything http://www.harrisinteractive.com/NewsRoom/HarrisPolls/tabid/447/ctl/ReadCustom%20Default/mid/1508/ArticleId/1136/Default.aspx
  21. siebert.... just got some dark green pumpkin tungsten weights on my last jig order and very pleased with them. pricing is on point too...
  22. saw a 6.5lb largemouth floating dead this summer and that hurt to look at.... but no smell
