Whoever said about the Google search took the words right out of my mouth. I'm also guilty of the "try doing a search" reply myself. I'm a relatively new member compared to most but I also try to be active and helpful where I can. I understand everyone has to start somewhere but I also believe if you keep spoon feeding people answers that they"ll never learn on their own. I've came to this conclusion from being a member on another forum for about 11yrs now. Coming from an automotive background you learn to find the answers you're looking for by reading things on the net. Generally you can't post a question at 2am when you're in the garage and expect an answer to it right away. Plus 90% of the time somebody,somewhere has needed the info you seek and the answer is right there on Google.

Time is money in a tournament scenario. Get the fish in the boat as fast as possible so you can get your line back in the water and catch another.

Luckily it's only $30 for a new side plate and another $10 for the magnet holder that has the teeth on it. So a $40 mistake. Not too bad I guess.

Yeah I know what you were saying about removing it. I was meaning the re assembly of it. Taping it off was easier for me since I'd never taken one apart before. As for the sideplate. Well I wasn't happy with the frame because I'm an idiot lol. So instead of just repainting it alone, I figured let's re do all the pieces. Don't put a plastic sideplate in acetone. This is your end result.

I'm already confused about what you're saying. I have it all apart now but that was just because I destroyed it to get it apart. Sideplate was already ruined so I wasn't hurting anything. I have to wait on a new sideplate from Daiwa and it's on back order. Good thing I don't need it till spring. Note to self. Don't assume your sideplate is metal just like the rest of the reel.

Winter boredom has set in for me already so I decided to do some painting. Re sprayed my Steez with a graphite grey. It's close to the factory color but with more metallic in it. You can see in the last pic the subtle difference.

I just soak all my bearings. Swishing them in the jar from time to time in degreaser. Sometimes I use brake cleaner because it'll break down anything. I'll pull them out and spin them on the end of a pencil. You should be able to tell if they're clean. Noticeably louder and spin very well. That oil is fine but use lightly. 1 drop is all you need. THE WORM GEAR ONLY is what I use oil on and not grease - not gears in general. Any gears inside the reel get grease. Just enough to get in the teeth about 1/2 - 3/4 around depending on how big the gear is. I then spin the reel a bunch and wipe away anything that is extra. I use reel butter grease but there have been numerous brands mentioned. For oil I use boca lightning oil but again you have many choices. Watch those YouTube videos again if you have to. The 2nd and 3rd go over re lubing the reel.

Go with what you can afford and feels good to you. Try to take your rod and mount reels on it to see where it balances. Sometimes a heavier reel balances better and will feel lighter in your hands vs a lighter reel on an unbalanced setup. Take into consideration how you hold the reel too. Unfortunately opinions are just that,opinions. Generally you'll get told to buy whatever is someone's favorite brand,model ect. The bps pq is a proven reel. You can't go wrong with it and can be had for $80 during their sales. The Lews bb1 would be a better choice then the normal speed spool IMO but it's around $110. Daiwa lexa is a good $100 reel. The new tatula 100p can be had for $118 on eBay. So far reviews in it are great. Also as mentioned look in the flea market. Buying used isn't a bad thing. Just remember this is your fishing equipment and nobody else's. If you like it that's all that matters.

Not to burst anyone's bubble but the free spool of a reel doesn't matter. Set your brakes and spool tension on what they'd normally be on when fishing,then check your free spool. Tell me how fast it is.... Unless you are extremely good with your thumb and use no brakes and little spool tension,free spool is a mute point. PSN81 - what reel did you clean up? It's 50/50 on grease vs oil on the worm gear but grease WILL slow it down vs oil and it also attracts debris. My lexa got better but nowhere like Francho's reel but it's also 2 reels on different price levels. Now my Steez is just like his video. Just keep that in mind too. Maybe try one of your better reels now.

One of the reasons for doing a full clean and re grease/oil is because the factory is known to use too much and it costs you performance. So by using a thicker grease I would say you are basically doing the same thing. To answer your question,yes. That's my thoughts on it from a mechanical stand point.

I had kidney stones a few weeks ago and the left an infection behind in my kidneys. I was there on Monday and got antibiotics but after a few days no relief. I went again after work last night because my temp was 101.3 and I felt terrible. After some shots,pills, and fluids I'm feeling a lot better.

That's good to hear. I'm not either but I got a laugh out of me ending up in the er on that day.

The out casting part is only true for lures above a certain weight. I also won't say it's a 100% true claim. Throwing a weightless senko my TP was the better caster. Same with using a 3/16 or 1/4oz weight. I'd buy a TP 10-1 over a bb model unless it was for cranks. Can't speak on the bb pro because I haven't fished with one yet. I prefer the centrifugal brakes over mag. You can just set it and forget it. No worry about moving it while palming or accidentally bumping it.

Well you have it all torn down so you're 40% done. Just clean everything real good and grease/oil what gets it. Then put it back together. This is a good thing to teach yourself. You accomplish a few things. #1 a better performing reel. #2 you don't have to pay anyone to do it. #3 your reels will last you longer now. For me I fell right into it. I've built cars for years including the engine so after selling my last car, this gave me something to tinker with. Plus you can upgrade some reels so that fit the bill for me.

At 1 point I had 10 of them. Never a problem with any of them. They were all sold on here and from my knowledge are still in use today. I wish I still had them but I sold my boat and had no need for 10 combos for bank fishing. The tourney pro can be had for around $135 new and is the best bang for the buck.

It took a minute to get used to but it's for a good reason. Helps eliminate pulling trebles out. I threw #20 braid with a leader so it acted like a shock absorber.
