  1. I use "Reel Scrub" to clean out the grease.
  2. Unless reel design has gotten much, much better twist is an inherent part of a spinning outfit. Currently I don't have a spinning reel less than 15 years old so mine aren't very up to date. I admit I don't use my spinning gear as much as my bait casters but I can't remember the last time I had to drag line to get the twist out. In my opinion twist comes from a very few reasons. 1. You put it on with twist. Use care when you put the line on the reel. After I start I check for twist after a few cranks. 2. Your bait is spinning. Make sure soft plastics are rigged straight and don't twist. For inline spinners I put a BB swivel on the bait then I have it ready right out of the box. 3. You crank with the drag slipping. If you use the drag to let out line when a fish surges it almost assures you will get some twist. I tighten the drag and back reel. If you want to see how bad this twists line just loosen your drag and crank with it slipping. 4. Something is wrong with your reel. Get it fixed or replace. Bass don't make huge runs so back reeling is usually not a problem. Pike make longer runs and can be a problem but my only issue has been some barked knuckles. Salt water fish are a different issue and there I use the drag.
  3. I got my bag years ago and use it for my shaving etc kit when traveling. When the letter comes to me I will absolutely send them the 10 bucks. I dropped out of B.A.S.S. years ago when the magazine became so redundant. I want to support the new owners. In my opinion ESPN did little or nothing for B.A.S.S. except drag it down. I hope the newby's can bring it back.
  4. I get bent out of shape when they hold the fish up and talk about a bunch of things. Show us the fish. release it and then talk about the method. To put them back I will hold a fish in the water that has taken a longer time to land until it recovers. Other wise I try to drop them in the water head first. The head first thing come from my younger days and remembering how much better it felt to dive in as opposed to a belly flop!
  5. Regardless of bait casting or spinning. A little roll cast unless I want super distance or accuracy then over hand.
  6. NBR replied to Crankhead's topic in Fishing Tackle
Some had the front hooks on outriggers that were prone to hang ups on the line. These were better trolled. They were pretty effective cast or trolled.
  7. Re. mpg, I tow with an AWD GMC van. Highway no boat and trailer 18.5 to 19.2 mpg. With a 19' fiberglass, 150 hp little or no fuel cramed full of tackle less than 14mpg. I live in NH so I have mountains to pull down the mpg.
  8. Guys, Unless the laws are changed both largemouth and smallies are out of season on Lake St. Clair until the 4th Saturday in June. This applies to Michigan and Ontario waters. Both will ticket you if you are obviously targeting bass.
  9. I've used it for severl years and had no problems.
  10. I would think that charcoal lighter fluid would leave a lite film although it would probably remove the old oil. Cigarette light fluid leaves no film neither does acetone. Air dry the bearings on a clean piece of paper towel. One and not more than 2 drops of oil. I use rocket fuel yellow but there are others.
  11. I'd go witha heavy fast falling bait like a Hopkins Spoon or a Cicada. Cast or just let it drop through the perch and look for bass feeding below the perch. If a perch grabs the spoon you end up with live bait.
  12. Go to a Yamaha dealer and buy their lower unit oil.
  13. I have almost 1 of each make (maybe more than 1 for some) and frankly can't tell a rats difference in any. I think any popular bait caster brand functions well. Preference for me comes down to comfort while fishing.
  14. Hooked, I've been in and out of Wichita many times but now that I am retired I probaby won't get back. I would suggest you contact the KS DNR. Many if not most states assist peole in how to build. how to stock etc. Good Luck

  17. I have the same on a1989 Astro which came from the same molds as your Procraft. I do the normal winterize stuff and every second or third year I have the carbs/fuel system gone over and a new water pump impellor installed. I didn't fish much this year with the first time out in early Sept. Motor ran a bit poor and on the third trip out it shut down and was hard to restart. With the weather starting to get too cold for this old guy I decided to put the rig to bed for the winter. When I took the plugs out the lower on the lowest left side (viewed from the back looking forward) was badly corroded so I hope that the new plugs solve the hard start issue. I don't like to jump a post but does anyone have a clue to the corroded plug? It was really bad but the others looked fine.
  18. The water I fish is super clear so I use fluoro for ever thing except surface (I use mono) and C-Rig where I use braid with either a mono or fluoro leader. That choice depends on whether I am trying to get the bait up in th water column or not.
  19. Exactly as you say. I have a box full of stuff given as gifts by well meaning friends than will never see the water from my boat.
