  1. Crap I just screwed up, I put down the bait that caught me the biggest smallie. it actually should be for Largemouth is a stick bait (senko). That would be classified as a worm? or other.
  2. So tonight I decided to take the kayak out to a local lake. I was fishing from 6-9:00 pm tonight and so was this couple in a canoe. The guy was paddling around while the lady was fishing, I am not sure what they were using. Anyway to the point, I found a spot where lots of activity started happening. I could see baitfish boiling at the top and bass starting to smash them. I was like d**n I just took off my spook jr. So I grabbed a KVD 1.0 in sexy shad, said what the heck. Couple casts in FISH ON! It was 1.5 lber, when I caught this one the couple noticed the catch. Two casts later, slam I get a 2 lb 10 oz bass. This bass inhaled my crankbait! While I was removing the hooks, they saw this second catch and then the guy started rowing towards where I was fishing to "troll". I was like really? Needless to say I was annoyed. They trolled around for 10 minutes and all they caught were weeds and when they couldn't catch anything they left. I was left just scratching my head there. Who knows how many more I could've landed. I'm still confused why anyone would "troll" over a spot, instead of stopping to cast.
  3. Lately it is - Casting - Fenwick Elite Tech Smallmouth 6'10" M/F paired with a Citica G7 Spinning - Fenwick Aetos 7' M/F paired with a Shimano Stradic FJ 2500
  4. You should message DarrenB. He has both. I dont have the new one yet to compare.
  5. I don't think you can ever really master it, but you'll definitely get better. Overruns are part of baitcasting. I just get less and less as I can continue to use them.
  6. Saweet, congratulations!
  7. Yeah that sucks! But hey it's time to have a fish fry?
  8. Vanish, steer clear. it is more problem than its worth.
  9. Awesome, sounds like you were meant to save him. Things happen for a reason!
  10. Great story and sounds like an overall fun day. I live in Ontario and pike is just part of fishing. Funny thing is, this year I haven't caught a single pike yet nor have my lures broken off by them. The last two years I've caught more pike than bass. So I'm a little perplexed on why that is, but it has saved me lots of lures so far. I had a similar situation on Lake Manitouwabing, I was in my Kayak when I threw out my spinnerbait one last time before heading in, literally about an arm's length from the boat I see this massive head come right at my SB. I was in awe by the size of him, I was so in awe that I watched him take my spinnerbait and I didn't set the hook. He took it straight down tried to set the hook but it was too late. THis lake is known for huge pike 40+ inches, being that close to it was a bit scary.
  11. Congrats on the nice fish!
  12. I was going to say this not to rule out a hybrid.
  13. I would like to further add to this statement that is that I'll usually use it as a leader as 90% of my reels have 30-50lb braid.
  14. 15# should be sufficient for most applications, but for the real heavy stuff I'll go 17-20.
  15. I do something similair but I don't leave the reels on. I store the reels in a bag.
  16. Yeah I was going to hit the local lake rain or shine, but then my car broke down. So I couldn't get out! I've been waiting almost 7 months for this!!! Ah oh well, bass season is here...just have to fish more to compensate.
  17. Awesome! Have fun catching!! I'm contemplating on purchasing either my first NRX or JDM reel. I have budget only enough for 1 right now, but this sure is making me lean towards a NRX.
  18. Welcome to the forums!!
  19. Congrats on your first smallies! They are great little fighters.
  20. Good catches! I'm in Zone 16, so I have to wait until this weekend...
  21. Super Fluke, Frogs, Buzzbaits and a split shot rig whatever choice of worms you use.
  22. I bought high end for rods for bottom contact. Most of my reels are in the 100-300 dollar range. However I find that you can find some rods fish better than some higher priced rods. Like for instance my Fenwick ET and Aetos, they fish above their price point.
  23. What he said! I own that Aetos and it is always out with me along with my 6'9" M/XF Fenwick Elitetech Smallmouth. These two rods are awesome in sensitivity. To add regarding 1 vs 2. I'd get a 2pc if I need a travel rod. If not get the 1pc.
