  1. I fished with a buddy from Texas for many years..he'd go in for all of them. I remember he saw an old crankbait that wasn't even his. He got out to get it..slipped on some rocks and went down. He got the old orange plug, but forgot his pager was on him...lol. (Back in the pager days)
  2. Bandit 200 Viral Perch.....the name is fitting for the times
  3. That XL does light up blue, even more than Stren's. BG has a steel blue but I haven't tried it yet.
  4. I use BG 8 on spinning and 12 on casting so yeah I could split the difference and be ok.
  5. About 3 weeks ago, I made a post on here about color not mattering that day. This past Sunday, the bite was slow and I switched to a crankbait I found floating in the lake. The bite turned on. I caught the biggest of the day on it plus a bunch of little ones. So I had to scour the internet to find what it even was. I'll probably grab a couple more of that color. So yes, sometimes it does seem to matter..I think..lol
  6. Lot of good points here...multiple casts, multiple lures, multiple depths, multiple angles. We don't have a lot of grass, most of my targets are laydowns, standing timber(stumps), and deeper brush piles. By far, I seem to do better on the big "obvious to everyone " laydown. So many people forget to look at the size of the trunk of the tree and end up fishing too close to start. I'm guilty of this myself some and not thoroughly working the whole tree.
  7. I had to read that twice but that is good advice. I never looked at it that way.
  8. I'm not that patient..lol How'd it turn out? Better or worse than normal?
  9. Let's pretend that fluoro and braid had been around forever and mono (Nylon) was relatively new. I think people would flock to mono as the clear, flexible, easy casting superline that's almost as sensitive and clear as Fluoro with increased knot strength. ?
  10. That's a good point..in the heavy stuff I usually just go back and forth with a jig and whatever worm I have on my Texas rig rod but probably should try a few more lures. On a side note, earlier in the morning I was coming out of a creek and getting ready to go WOT and my PFD inflated..sunny day..no rain. Just started hearing what sound like gas leaking out and constricting around my neck..that woke me up.
  11. A little back story, I was out yesterday by myself with no time restraints which seems to be rare. At the end of a long day, I was going to hit "one more bank" within sight of the ramp. I had had a decent day but told myself I'm not leaving unless I catch one more keeper. I go down the long bank, catching a few dinks. I get to the end, where the rocky bank transitions to some sandy bottom where a huge laydown was. I started pitching a jig, then a worm..back and forth. This went on for several minutes and remember I was telling myself I wasn't leaving until I caught another keeper. I didn't count the number of casts but it's more than I ever have in my life at one target. If somebody had been with me, they'd been like "dude let's move". But somewhere around cast 30 or more, I felt the slightest tic..reeled down and swung and it was my second biggest of the day..about 2.5 lbs. I didn't make another cast but driving home, I wondered how my day would have gone if I treated every lay down like that. Obviously you hit less targets in a day.
  12. Yep, good line at a great price. I give Stren the nod overall but I bought some 8lb BG for all of our spinning reels (that's all my son and wife use) so for like 7 bucks you get 1700 yards. Not that Stren would break me, but hard to pass on that. 8lb does pretty good, strong line. Next time I'm going for that Steel Blue.
  13. I'm currently all mono. I had braid on my carolina rig but took it off.
  14. Cold water - Shad Rap Warm water - Jointed Shad Rap I have fished many brands and some days it doesn't seem to matter but I have high confidence in the two above.
  15. 1. Light C-Rig 2. Crankbait 3. Jig Why? Cause that's what I've been throwing..lol
  16. I think this happens way more than any of us want to admit. We miss a lot of bites. I know I've caught many Bass when something just didn't feel right and I swung. No bite, just a little more or little less tension on the line. Line watching can help in my opinion, I stick to Clear Blue or Clear line. Green blends in too much with the water here and I agree that braid is the not best for these semi slack weightless presentations.
  17. I buy Clear Blue Stren because it's easier to see above water in most conditions. I don't think it makes a big difference to the fish.
  18. Interesting that you Florida guys are saying 3 and up..I figured it'd be a little higher. I'd probably say 3lb or more here...but our top end is way lower..3 is nice, 4 is uncommon, 5 is rare, and 6 or more is almost unheard of at my main lake.
  19. Maybe a split shot rig...leader about a foot or so with a curly tail of your choice Texas rigged weedless. Just slowed rolled around cover.
  20. Yes, mono is superior. Price, knot strength, stretch without deformity, handling..etc
  21. Bass isn't bad but now Crappie or Saugeye are my favorite freshwater that I've had. Saltwater has to be some tasty Spanish Mackerals we caught one year. Season with Old Bay & Slap Yo Momma...makes my mouth water thinking about it.
  22. The simplest I've done is a spinning reel with an empty Altoid mint can with several Neds made up ready to go.
  23. I am happy with my old All Star 7'0 MH, I've put the lion's share of keeper Bass in my boat with it the last 15 years or so. So at the end of the day, I think I broke my old rule of "if it ain't broke, don't fix it". Looks like I have a new heavy Carolina Rig rod now... ?
