Ned Jig Head Knot ?
Interesting history..my older brother showed me the knot in the late 80's. He just called it a fisherman's knot if I remember correctly. It was years later that I learned it was called the palomar.

Amount of line between lure and rod tip when casting
I don't think I've ever paid much attention except on carolina/split shot rig where your weight has to be closer to the tip or pitching where it's farther away.

Bass fishing myths
Rocky banks warm faster on a cold sunny day. I've checked this several times. Does not happen here.

Winter bass tips for a beginner?
I will add the Shad Rap as it's been my #1 producer since late October but if you are fishing snaggy waters lure retrieval from the bank can be an issue. The right color can make a difference too, I was out last weekend throwing a Red craw SR, literally went through a ball of shad and snagged 3 shad. I looked at the shad and looked at my lure. Not even close. I then tied on a shad pattern SR and started catching fish. Same lure, SR7, just a color change to match the hatch so to speak and went from zero to hero (well not really, but did start catching some). The kicker is the water was heavily stained but the color did matter that day. A medium bottom bumping retrieve works best for me. When the lure hangs, drop slack and let that SR rise up out of the cover and continue on... that's when you get most of your bites it seems. One of my nicer ones this Fall was after I was hung up for about a minute, the lure freed up and the rod loaded up!

Chapstick for knot lube?
It's not officially Winter but we might have our first Winter thread.?

Winter Jig Fishing
Shallow stumps were the focus but the bigger picture is bucking the system and fishing faster, stroking heavy jigs on stumps in this case, going for that reaction bite? Similar in concept to @WRB 's speed cranking thread for cold water bass for a reaction bite. I've always heard slow down in cold water but will give this stuff a try this Winter when I'm not chasing those papermouths.

Cold water speed cranking
I've been catching on a Shad Rap with medium retrieve till it hits something (the stop) and, like usual, most bites in cold water are felt as the rod loading up as I begin the retrieve again. This last weekend I was fishing a smaller shallow lake, water temp was 42 and they didn't want to play. I did get one dink on a bladebait yo-yoing on a shallow drop from 8 to about 12 feet.

Blade baits vs lipless crankbaits?
Do Blade baits work in warmer water too? It seems dying shad would be on the menu year round..like pizza for me.? I picked up a few Cicadas to give them a try this Winter. Blade baits and Jerkbaits are two lures that I have thrown very little..so I figured I'd try one of them this Winter.

Does Braid Stay 100% Thru Cold Weather?
Yup, I normally only fish down to the upper 30's, but the few times it went below freezing I had to put those rods back in the box.

How often do you replace fishing line ?
I change my mono a few times a year, usually when it gets a little low or seems haggard. Braid is a beast, easily can last a few seasons. I fish during Winter so I never strip off or Winterize boat.

Getting a following Bass to commit in cold water
The title says it all, was fishing some clear ponds yesterday and had several surprisingly nice size Bass following my slow rolled cranks but couldn't get one to bite. I tried stopping, going faster. I didn't bring my whole arsenal so swapping colors wasn't an option. I've never had that many follow without committing. Cold water thing? Any tips?

- Sprayed...... again
I had a co-worker have a skunk spray in their crawl space. It got in his families clothes, he smelled like skunk for a week. I was at KY lake a few years back, came out of the cabin late one night and had one raise it's tail within a few feet. I froze, but got lucky because it just hopped down into the creek.- What are the best youtube channels....
I couldn't agree more. This young guy puts out good stuff. I watch all of them.- What are some smooth braids ?
Gliss was a hot topic on this site a couple of years back. I liked it but it seemed to fray bad after some use so I only bought one spool. Has it improved any in regards to the fraying? The casting was very good and smooth.- Spinning reels for crankbaits
I do on small to medium lipped cranks..it's always made sense to me. They run deeper on lighter line and longer casts.- Current Favorite 8 ~ 9 Carrier Braid ?
I tried some 8, didn't see enough of an advantage for the price difference and went back to regular Power Pro 4 strand for any braid needs.- Another leader knot question
I'm not really the one to answer this but I played around and came up with a 20 turn Albright that seems to hold strong. This is 20lb Power Pro to 14lb Trilene XT. I'm sure there are better knots...but some of those seemed like a pain to tie. - Post a photo a day!
